Hair structure
Hair is made of dead protein known as keratin.
Hair consist
Mainly hair consist of 2 parts.
Hair shaft- part which is seen outside scalp.
Hair root/ follicle- part which is inside scalp.
Hair follicle is the part which holds hair.
It’s also responsible for the growth of hair.
Hair follicle has hair bulb.
Hair bulb contains papilla.
Papilla supplies blood to follicle.
Above papilla there are germinative cells.
These cells are continuously getting generated and forms hair.
Hair Growth
Hair does not grow continuously like fingernails.
It’s controlled and coordinated by numerous hormones.
The development of hair is cyclic process.
Stages of hair growth
Growth phase( Anagen) : Most hair is growing at any given time. Each hair spends several years in this phase.
Transitional phase ( catagen ) : Over a few weeks, hair growth slows and the hair follicle shrinks.
Resting phase ( telogen ): Over months, hair growth stops and the old hair detaches from the hair follicle. A new hair begins the growth phase, Pushing the old hair out.
