Thr first invasion of the IVC was attempted in 1900bc.
However, this attempt was preempted by an alert and well prepared IVC that made no investment in fortification for their cities , no standing army and weapons of war. They understood that the IVC could never defend itself against any invasive attack by the powerful and barbaric Andronovo , Sintashta,Yamnaya.Steppe Cultures in the area at the time . The Stonehenge experience would have been a grim reminder constantly. So, with early warning sign of an imminent invasion the valley of 5 million inhabitants evacuated their 2000 cities quietly and efficiently. A sad but inevitable ending to 700 years of a futuristic civilization with brilliant achievement. Thir work has continued in the south lately discovered at places such as keeladi. Adichanaloor, Vaigai etc.
Everything is tentative and not corroborated with archaeology. He could have at least provided some caveat instead of being emphatic. For instance, how he concluded Elamite and Dravidian are similar. Elamite is categorised as a language isolate. Elamo-Dravidian theory has been criticised and any connection is superficial. He seem to be aggregating things that he likes (fair enough it is his book). But he should have the honesty to term it as tentative. Also, I have read papers from Iravatham Mahadevan with dravidian as a possible language of Indus valley civilisation (and I favour it). However, I would not say that harappans are dravidians emphatically like TJ for a simple reason that we have not found any emphatic evidence yet.
It is true that Elamo-Dravidian theory is not proven due to limited resources available on Elamite.
But we cannot ignore the fact that the Elamites have been wiped out, and it is something similar may be to a lesser extend, that happened to the harappan civilization.
If you believe Iravatham Mahadevan, why not TJ? It may be possible that all harappan cities did not use Dravidian, but it is safe to assume that many were of Dravidian culture.
@@anilkumarp76 - There are superficial similarities between so many languages - Tamil/Korean, Tamil/Japanese etc., that does not mean they are related. Similarly, Elamite language with Dravidian. I agree with the fact that genetic evidence provides a possibility of farmers from Iran could have moved earlier to Indus and had would have had an influence on Dravidian (if Indus was indeed Dravidian). Even that still does not prove the Elamo-Dravidian hypothesis. I said I favour Indus being Dravidian, but that may or may not be the truth until it is proved. In the interest of finding the truth, we need to be open and let science drive it than politics. Iravatham Mahadevan produced a detailed paper on his "proposed" readings and have the humility to say that it is tentative (and may not be the TRUTH). TJ's book is way less rigorous than that. You said "It is safe to assume that many were of Dravidian culture." - I would not be that emphatic. We need to decipher the Indus script to be any closer to the actual culture. We are talking about people who lived 3900+ years back.

Tony Joseph uses a chicanery in sticking to his theory of Aryan migration. First of all he says the modern Indians still retain around 50-60% of the genetic profile of Harappans. Secondly, he also says South Asia had a significant % of world population even 5000 years ago or before. Clearly, the migration if it took place between 2000 - 1500 BCE, it was a trickle than a large scale replacement of the existing population. He also admits that these wide geographical swathes of territory had common written script, standards for weight measures etc. How is it likely that a small group of people came over from Iran and completely replace the culture of such a wide area in a short time?

There is no issues with all Indians admitting that they are a mixed race and that India has been a melting pot so on and so forth. The crux is though that how is this information used? Will they say that since India is the melting pot, anyone can rule it and should be allowed to do so (like the British)? they will also say that its not a 'nation' in a strict sense of the word (unlike the religion based countries). India existed before the idea on nations was nowhere to be seen and we will exist long after that. Don't be fooled. Be proud of the things that are important to you.
Anybody who believes in the idea of a just society of laws, of unity and diversity and respect for all is an Indian. The British came to India but never stayed back. They never adopted it. Early Muslims in India too were the same, but later, they lived here, adopted it as their "madr-e-watan". In fact, the early migration of lighter-skinned people to India then actually took a u-turn (giving Hitler the notion that he is "Aryan"). Later on, these people -- colloquially referred as Aryans -- stayed on where they met a decaying Harrappan Civilisation. A nation is what its people make it to be. As long as they enrich the land they live in, through their soil and toil, are people of that nation. They are Indians.

In 1900bc the Indus Valley Civilization was entirely abandoned.
Later excavations did not find human remains consistent with an invasion.
The only explanation for the disappearence without trace of this very large and wealthy culture could be systematic evacuation of the valley to preempt any invasion at the time. This appeared to be the strategy that fit the philosophy and circumstances of the IVC . The inhabitants of the valley migrated east and to the south eventually mixing with native hunter gatherers and become the ASI. So, the IVC abandoned the Valley in 1900bc and settled down in the south . They could not have met the Steppe population (ANI)who arrived 400 years later.confirmed by dna studies geneticist Vagesh Narasimhan.

It appears that Tony has added one more contradiction of conflict between Magadh and Aryavarta and that to at 100 CE.
The chronology of the dynastic kings and their activities must tally with this hypothesis. This conflict was ceased and there was no conflict between Magadha and Aryavarta after 100 CE. This creates a lot confusion. As per the history narrated in Puranas,. The Puranas appear to be more authentic and it reject the theory of such type of conflicts. Kings were used to be at war all the time from the period of dynasties mentioned in Puranas till the modern age.

You're mixing myths with factual genetics and siding with myth. There is no place for God in the Sky mythology when it comes to science.
Myth is not a proper word. It is confusing word when it contradicts with the Greek meanings. Whatsoever it may be but if Myth is taken as a totally non historical truth it fails to lead its Historical truth. This is also a failure to understand the style of Indian way of narrating history of especially ancient India.
It was an Indian cultural style to make the history interesting. Puranas were written with a main purpose to narrate history only. To make it interesting for common mass the writers had introduced miracles and Gods (entities/elements of power/energy of the Cosmos in a symbolic forms.

When a historian says, it means that it existed as a civilization (city culture) for 700 years. Specificaly this was called mature harappan.
