@Mr CG you the fact that he uploaded his first video on 2009 is a bit insane to me because for some reason I feel like their were a *LOT* more youtubers uploading videos on youtube in the very early 2010’s.
Because of these videos, I'm currently doing a Disney marathon where I watch every Disney movie each weekend in the same order of this lookback. (I'm watching Tangled, Winnie the Pooh, Wreck-it-Ralph, and Frozen the last sunday)
"When you think of any animation studio..." the birth of a legend No, seriously, though. The reason we love watching the old history is revisiting how much you've grown over the years as animation fan and critic. The heart and soul you devoted into this is evident in spite of some errors here and there, and that's why I remained devoted to your channel for several years. Keep doing what you do best, dude
You gotta think of how amazing it is that Snow White, the first fully animated film, came out just a mere 10 years after The Jazz Singer, the first film with sound.
To think that this Animation Lookback came out nearly 8 years ago. I discovered this in 2010 and have been a long time subscriber ever since. I feel so.... old now.
I am watching this for the second time in one day because 1) I am in love with Disney films 2) This is the most amazing thing I've ever seen. I can't find any other good Disney documentaries that are funny and focused on animation.
I found your videos yesterday and have been watching them while working on my various homework assignments since, needless to say not much has gotten done. I love your Disney lookback series. You have a very amusing way of presenting the information and it makes your videos a lot of fun to watch. Best homework distraction I've had in a long time.
Walt Disney will always be my favorite person in the entertainment industry as Disney should do a movie showing Walt's snuggles of building the company we all know today.
OMG you used the wonderful world of disney intro. I can't tell you how much that put me into nostalgia. You sir, brought me back to my childhood for about 30 seconds. Thank you.
Blue Sky is the studio that made the Ice Age films. They started as a small-time effects company before getting into animated films with Ice Age. Around the same time, Fox bought the company and has since made animated films for them, including Rio.
This documentary, after only 6 minutes, made me want to go on a Disney movie binge. No sleep for me tonight! :) Thanks for resparking my love for Disney.
Walt Disney's Beginnings: Walt Disney was born in Hermosa Chicago, IL on December 5, 1901 to Elias Disney and Flora Call Disney, on the second floor of the house at 2156 Tripp Avenue Elias built. In 1906 the Disneys move to Marceline, MO where Walt discovers the magic of his dreams when he and his family live on a farm. In 1911 they move to Kansas City, MO because there life was hard for them. Elias Disney returned to Chicago from Kansas City in 1917 after investing in the O-Zell Company, a jelly and juice producer. 15-year-old Walt entered McKinley High School in Chicago at 2040 West Adams Street in Chicago where he was drawing some pictures for the high school newspapers. In 1919 Walt move back to Kansas City when he return from France where he served in the Red Cross in World War 1 and began his animation company Laugh-O-Gram Studio but then went bankrupt, In the early 1920s Walt moved to Hollywood, CA and the Walt Disney Company began on October 16, 1923.
The Pastoral Symphony is my favourite segment on Fantasia! I especially love the black pegasus father! He looks so gothic and beautiful. Don't get me wrong, the white mother pegasus is beautiful as well! ;D lol
I'm going to Disney World this summer and I'm trying to find out as much as I can before we go about Disney and this really helps! Thanks a lot! And I really enjoyed this!
Am I the only one here who believes Animat should update the WDAS Animation Lookback with videos regarding their seven most recent animated features? The newest movie he talked about here was Princess and the Frog, which is amazingly already seven years old.
Here, Matt was so young and literally innocent compared to today. 💔 He also sounded way more calm and laid-back here, to the point of being quite relaxing to listen to. 💞
I find it funny that the first animated movie I saw in my life was Snow-White. I'm not too old or anything (i'm only 23) and there were other full lenght animated movies around but I started with the very first one in history. Now, I want to be an animator.
Yeah, Disney lost money, not because it was a bomb. It was a big sucess but just not big enough (like Sega's Dreamcast which imho is a good game console that is underrated because the public wasn't there yet) due to several factors. Likley it only made it's budget back until years later.
Man I just seen Fantasia and I gotta say it's an amazing film IMO.:) Wow!!! Did Disney go all out to make this film truly spectacular. I am gonna say it's in my Top 5 Favorite Disney movies of all time.:) My favorite Segment was the one based on Greek Mythology. Also my Mom has seen this film over 100 times. Yes guys my mother really loved this film. For a while she couldn't stop watching it I could see why. To me this is Walt Disney's true technical achievement. I mean sure the previous films were great but this is the one where I think Walt Disney truly put all his effort into one film. And to me with the huge as hell budget for this film it looks amazing even today it still looks amazing IMO. Although if I had to say the weirdest segment I saw it was the one with the Alligators and the Hippopotamus. IDK is it me or was I confused what the hell was happening with that segment? It was weird really weird IMO but still pretty enjoyable at least IMO.:) Honestly I am thinking of buying this film on Blu Ray or DVD because I honestly enjoyed the film that much. I wish thought that Disney could do more films like this. You know the ones that take a lot of chances. I know that Disney back in the 40's was different than Disney now. But I wish that they could at least try to break from the traditional Disney Formula. (Although knowing Hollywood they could give a rats ass what I think and to Disney Traditional Formula Safe films=Shit ton of money $$$ in Hollywood.) I am not asking for them to do something drastic like this again but IDK maybe something under the Touchstone Pictures Company name? I think I am just getting tired of Disney's repetitive formula for their films. If they want to try something different maybe they should try different ideas like with The Emperors New Groove,Lilo and Sitch,Atlantis The Lost Empire IDK something different and new at least?:/ I mean look at Frozen I think it's a good film but at the same time it's weighed down by the traditional Disney Formula and as a result it feels weak IMO. It has the potential of being great like Tangled but it's missing a couple components I and a bunch of people usually like in these films. Like The Disney Dark Moments where are they in Frozen?, (When I mean that I mean stuff like in Pinocchio where there's some really dark things in the movie. I don't mean that the whole Cigar or Alcohol thing no I meant more like the kids getting turned into Donkey's and that whole thing never gets resolved. No the kids remain Donkey's forever while Pinocchio runs away. And I guess now a days I guess I can't expect that kind of dark moments from Modern Disney but how about at least do it like with how you did it in Tangeled? The Villain kidnapped Rapunzel because she wants to use her hair (which only activates it's magic with a certain song/tune.) to keep herself young forever. Yeah when you think about it it's pretty dark in a Disney Film at least now a days with their standards.:/ I mean the villain kidnapped the daughter because she drank some things with the golden flower (and now it's properties only work with her hair.) and uses Rapunzel's Hair for the villain's own selfish reasons to keep herself forever young. And while all this happens the Mother and Father for Rapunzel are pretty devastated that their Daughter got kidnapped while all of this was happening. Now that's what I am asking for in terms of Disney Dark Moments. I am not asking for them to go all out and scare the shit out of kids no!! But at least have some kind of dark edge to the films so that at least they're not sugarcoated with lots and lots of happy moments.) I can't think of anything that was really that dark in that film. I mean sure Anna in one scene technically died but it was like resolved in a couple minutes and she instantly came back alive and well. Honestly I find that really pathetic IMO that they did that. I mean sure the whole movie is about "Sisterly Love"(Which BTW hate to break it to you guys but that's been done in Lilo & Stich years before this film came out and I think they did it better in that film IMO.) but if it was going for that it barely had any scenes about Elsa & Anna interacting with eachother. I mean come on Disney this is just pathetic IMO you done this concept *WAY* better in Lilo & Stich.-_- So really what's your excuse Disney? Oh sorry I forgot you guys don't care what I have to say and as a result you're going back to sell more Frozen Merchandise never mind. -_- And also where's your great villain Frozen? Hans?! That whole "Twist" had no hints or build up about it.-_- So as a result it was shoehorned in to make the film pretend to have a villain. Yeah when you force a villain into the narrative that's a bad thing that hurts the film at least IMO.:/ And honestly you call that a villain Disney?! Coming from you guys Hans is one of the weakest "Disney Villains" ever in a Disney Film! And this is sad because this is the same company who gave us Captain Hook,Ursula,Jafar, and also Frollo!!! Freaking Frollo yet you think Hans is worthy of the seal of "Disney Villain"? No no no Disney. That's just insulting to me knowing you written better Disney Villains than Hans. Honestly I have a lot of problems with Frozen it's not as great as I remember it to be.:/ I don't hate the film though guys I just call it one of the weakest films from Disney since Home On The Range and Chicken Little. But I guess you could say that Disney hasn't been my favorite Animation Company as of the last 2 years. In fact oddly it's been going to companies like Blu Sky and Dreamworks.(Sorry guys I haven't seen one Studio Ghibli film yet but I want to watch at least one of them sometime down the road.) And also Pixar probably my favorite in the Animation Industry.
I LOVE YOU for making these videos! I enjoy animation, particularly Disney animation, so it's wonderful to learn all these wonderful facts behind the films, and see how they changed filmmaking, and the world itself, forever! May traditional animation, and the lovability and charm of it, live on!!
@ 6:13-6:16: One of my most favorite parts of that movie! I used 2 always laugh @ that part when I was a kid, along with a lot of the parts with Figaro in it.
86th years of walt disney animation studios old 1923-2009 New 96th anniversary walt disney animation studios + Years of Magic Animation 1923-2019 Est 1923
Well, he already did Hanna-Barbera, so there are those cartoons out the window. But, stuff like The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, etc, yes he should. And Dr. Seuss, there's not that many, but hey, there are some, so he might as well look back at them.
I feel bad for the voice actress who played Snow White. If you don't know what happened to her, Walt said because of her voice (I guess he either trademarked her or her voice) she will never act again and even voice another character. People think Walt Disney was this good guy and never did wrong, but...he wasn't. He was a bit of an ass (so sorry Walt! You know I still love you!)
Amazing :D I wish Disney would make more traditional animated films these days. Even though I love Pixar, it kinda overshadows the glory/creativity of traditional animation. Nowadays when a hand drawn movie is shown in theaters, it bombs.
Animat I think you do an awesome job on these videos even though i already subscribed i love watching this animation lookback its my favorite not just because its disney but because its a history of one of the greatest things that was created on this planet
I have actually made a top ten list of my favorite animated movies specifically made by Walt Disney Animation Studios. On that list, it is Pinocchio that was chosen as my #1 favorite. There are multiple reasons for why I like Pinocchio: first of all, Pinocchio himself was the first cartoon character to ever be voiced by a child actor (Dickie Jones). I like animation projects with child stars much better than those that have all adult voices. Secondly, Everyone agrees that Pinocchio is the most technically perfect movie Walt Disney had ever created. While most of my enjoyment comes from the hand-drawn animated characters, I will admit I am impressed by all the work with the multiplane camera, the pans of glass and the rotoscoped vehicles. One more reason for why I like Pinocchio is its moral. It gives people reason to be nice and good around others, making it a perfect influence for children. Yes it gets scary at times, but overall it is a perfectly good kids' movie. Now, if I were to choose which movie is my all time favorite, Pinocchio or The Land Before Time, I suppose I would prefer Pinocchio for reasons I can't explain. This means Pinocchio happens to be my favorite movie of all time.
I don't know if he's going to do it, but he should do 'Animation Lookback, Walt Disney Animation Studios+,' for the 10th Anniversary of ElectricDragon505 next year in October 2019.
Here's another fact about "Fantasia" you shouldn't have missed; During the production of the "Rite of Spring", the ballet's original composer, Igor Stravinsky, was pretty much pissed off at the fact that Walt had decided to butcher the former's magnum opus into something completely unrecognizable and "scientific", but at least Walt offered Stravinsky $5000 to avoid copyright infringement. Until his death, Stravinsky declares this notion to be nothing more than an "awful memory." Pretty neat info, huh? And BTW, to Zaazza85, I definitely agree with you on that!
Heyyyyyy, that WWII map is taken from a book series written by Harry Turtledove about an alternate history where the Confederates stayed independent and fought in WWII!
2:10 - I should probably point out that it wasn't Max Fleisher who created Popeye but E.C.Segar. It wasn't until 1933 that the Fleishers decided to adapt the comic in animated shorts which gave the charecters even more popularity! :)
this was very informative and interesting, I am going to watch them one a day for 14 days, then I will check out your other content ... thanks for sharing
I'm German by birth and native language, good sir. So your attempt at pronouncing "Goethe" and "Der Zauberlehrling" realy made me laugh XD In any case, these videos are amazing. Rock on!
And you forgot the Fantasia segment that I like to call "A Meeting With The Soundtrack". And A Night on Bald Mountain and Ave Maria are in the same segment,Night on Bald Mountain.
In 1937, Walt Disney Was Originally Considered Making Animated Film About Reynard The Fox During Snow White And The Seven Dwarves, But Was Scrapped And Reworked To Disney’s Robin Hood in 1973
Thus a legend was born

I feel bad for the voice actress who played Snow White. If you don't know what happened to her, Walt said because of her voice (I guess he either trademarked her or her voice) she will never act again and even voice another character. People think Walt Disney was this good guy and never did wrong, but...he wasn't. He was a bit of an ass (so sorry Walt! You know I still love you!)
That was a pretty dick move he made.
Not true. She said herself that her voice was so recognizable, that it was hard to find a job after. People would recognize her everywhere.
+Abbiemation Not a dick move because it didn't happen.
are u KIDDING?! night on Bald Mountain is my favorite part next to the epic dinosaur fight. even as a kid I loved it.

The first sound cartoon was actually My Old Kentucky Home (1926)
You didn't mention Bourne Co in the updated lookback.
0:50-LIAR!
I don't know if he's going to do it, but he should do 'Animation Lookback, Walt Disney Animation Studios+,' for the 10th Anniversary of ElectricDragon505 next year in October 2019.
Turns out he might not do it.
The Permian Sabertooth did he?
@@PoleTooke He did and this comment I made is outdated.
@Lumanous I second that: THANKS FOR UPLOADING!! & I hope to work for them one day too =)
Here's another fact about "Fantasia" you shouldn't have missed; During the production of the "Rite of Spring", the ballet's original composer, Igor Stravinsky, was pretty much pissed off at the fact that Walt had decided to butcher the former's magnum opus into something completely unrecognizable and "scientific", but at least Walt offered Stravinsky $5000 to avoid copyright infringement. Until his death, Stravinsky declares this notion to be nothing more than an "awful memory." Pretty neat info, huh?
And BTW, to Zaazza85, I definitely agree with you on that!
Oh my gosh I LOVE THE OSCAR FOR SNOW WHITE! :D
:)
honestly, i would probably transfer this audio onto a CD, so i can listen to it in the car, 4 like a long road trip or something,
Animat's speaking voice wasn't experienced at this time
this was very informative and interesting, I am going to watch them one a day for 14 days, then I will check out your other content ... thanks for sharing
Disney is the childhood for many people
I'm German by birth and native language, good sir.
