How To Use Locking Pliers (Vice Grips) Tutorial

- In this video I show you how to use curved locking pliers also known as vice grips. I show you the basics of how to lock the vice grips and how to unlock the vice grips. I show you how to adjust the jaws. There is a lever to unlock the vice grips and a bolt that allows you to adjust the jaws. I show you all of this in this short tutorial. I hope you enjoy the video. My new pliers were very tight. Once I saw how to push the lever to open them up it was ok. I was not sure and did not want to break them with too much pressure the wrong way. Thanks!

Thanks should have watched this before I smashed my thumb nail between the handle and release tab. Really cross that girls in my age group back in the 19..? had to do domestic science instead of tech drawing, metal work, wood work etc ... Glad we have progressed!

Question - once the pliers are "locked", are they supposed to not be able to be opened unless the lever is used? Because the pair I just bought seems to open easily from the "locked" position without using the lever, which makes it feel like the lever is redundant? Or is it just easier to push down to release than to pull apart? (I can see how the lever would make releasing the pliers one-handed much easier)
What is the best way to unlock them when they are really tight?

I've turned my bolt a lot and pressed the squeeze part , but I can't get the wrench to open

I watched a mechanic use a pair of vice grips on a Ford Explorer's worn out front hood piston. To keep the hood from closing down on his head He clamped the tool on the extending arm 1/2 an inch in front of the piston cylinder. It keep the hood open so he could work on the engine.

I didn't find this video helpful. I needed an explanation in minute details on how to use locking pliers. Parts of the locking pliers were very well explained but not the mechanics of how to use the pliers.
