As a backslider who was restored many years ago and then had some major trips until God gave me the victory-and He always will-I get it. I get loving God with all of my heart only to fall into temptation because you haven't yet learned the wiles of the enemy, the power of sin, how we can rationalize things....and how to live in power over that sin. I get it! It's easy to show mercy when I have received so much. Blessed are the poor in spirit, and He is very near to us when our sin breaks the hard hearted pride so present in us-until we see who we really are apart from God. But our journey is towards His image in us and that we must pursue.

I know of a guy that had a crush on Misty while all of this was going on, they were quick to alienate him and make it hard for him to live there because of it. She's a big girl and she knew what she was doing, she wanted to be in a spotlight and make money singing, she's not a victim, she's an enabler of this abuse that spread to other women. She knew what she was doing. That's why she was telling this reporter she's not a victim. sick, that's one of the many different reasons I can't trust the church body anymore. There are Christ followers that I do trust, but churches in the states are highly likely to be corrupt in one fashion or another.
I always felt a block when it came to IHOP, especially Misty's worship, I could never listen to it.. I understand that it was the Holy Spirit. I had that with some others who have been exposed.
Totally agree on the condition of churches at the moment with everything - cross-dressing (I wonder about the dreadlock long hair for pastors, a few seem to have it), mega-church trend, female pastors and the worship with dark rooms and laser lights. I dont know the whole story but, if your an adult and you choose to have a sexual relationship with another adult who is married, how are you a victim in that? I'm not trying to judge that I'm just not sure i understand.
With KP, she isn't a victim. But with MB, she's a victim.
I don't think she's guiltless in the KP saga. She claimed celibacy, but broke the vow, sinned, then covered up both relationships. No. She isn't innocent. She needs repentance and healing.
Life isn’t as black and white as, “she was an adult…”. It’s more nuanced and complicated. Misty definitely shares some culpability in the KP saga for taking up with a married man. But if the reporting of KP’s blackmail tactics are true, then Misty was victimized.
There are several knock on effects to abuse. Youngsters who are abused grow up to be adults who abuse drugs and alcohol. Or act out in different ways. Misty, like the original Jane Doe joined IHOPKC at 19. I wonder what happened to her earlier in life that may have influenced her self-destructive patterns later in life.
That said, this stuff about being celibate and given over to Jesus is just wrong. Bad things happen when people try to “sacrifice” to Jesus something He didn’t ask for.

The implication for going to such extremes to keep a secret points to a man in a prominent position....the nature of a father wound with Misty and older men is apparent. And you’re worthy of accusing? We’re no better. It’s why we need Jesus. “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone”. I wonder if people think that it she stood before God at this moment without repenting, that God would say "you are a victim so you are excused from sins committed." No way! Are people crazy? If it started at 19, she was still old enough to read the Bible and see that it says do not fornicate and do not lie. It's unfortunate she let a man coerce her to sin, but Misty was accountable to God as well. And because she was involved in a church and sang in sessions, she really had the truth of God exposed to her every time. No excuse. We don't even excuse younger teenagers from having sex or lying. That's why youth ministry exists to teach right and wrong in Christ. Her lying made it VERY clear she KNEW it was wrong from the beginning. And I say this as someone who got mixed up sexually in church due to my brokenness and my vulnerability being played on. Yes, I'm a victim of what the enemy did but I was still very much guilty.

As I have understood this girl was just 14 when Bickle was with her. That's a victim. When Prosh, Bickles brother in law came later, she had went into a typical "protective- mode" because noone been abused handles being a victim, and desperately try convince themselves they're in control, but they're not, and never was. She was 14! If she couldn't put up a bariere then, she couldn't later either. Most probably she even has been taken advantage of as a kid. Because predators are experts finding these. AND they're there to kill the worship fire.

The thing about high control groups like IHOPKC is that people are coerced and manipulated, which makes them a victim, however, very often, they are taught to then perpetrate the abuse that was done to them on others because God wants that or whatever excuse they would use. it’s easy to see how Misty feels a lot of shame because she is guilty of something, however, if she had potentially two affairs, and one of them was potentially her leader, then the power dynamic and the age difference was an abuse of his authority, which is abuse. I do not envy her elevated position in the church, because she probably felt like she had to hide every little sin, and I tend to trust Julie’s judgment on whether she was victimized.
What has happened to her? When she chose to have sex with multiple married men? Gross to act like she’s so victimized. A heart for the Lord? Come on. We as a church need to have standards- people can fall and make mistakes.

Calling out sin is not judgment, we are told to watch out for false teachers. These people all made conscience choices to publicly minister while being shady behind the scenes. They knew exactly what they were doing while declaring God. This moral tragedy has effected hundreds of people's lives. It needs to be discussed because of everything that can be gleaned from it. It was corrupt from the head (Bickle) so everything under it was destined to fall. Churches need to see that corrupt leadership will tear down the biggest ministries.

This is why we don't put people on pedestals and call them "worship leaders". That title isn't even in the Bible. It should be a corporate group all singing as one voice to God. That way no one is the "star".
I think if Julie is referring to Mike Bickle and Misty, this would have occured in the early days of IHOP when Misty was 19. One of the orginal victims of Mike happened before he started IHOP and was pastoring in St Louis, she was his babysitter and only 14. There were others (plural) who this had also allegedly also happened with who were some of the first at IHOP's start. Kevin Prosch did come in the picture much later, he was married to Mikes sister when the alledged affair started, but later divorcer. Kevin Prosch in the late 90's he publicly admitted to acts of adultery (way before Misty's time).

I disagree with making Misty out to be a "victim." While she may have been manipulated and blackmailed she played a part in the sin she chose to take part in and participate in. She was getting drunk doing drugs laying down with a married man. So lets not play the "victim" card like Misty was all innocent and all. Its not like she was forced against her will to have sex with a married man or raped that we know of. She made those choices. The only way you can own up to the sin you have committed and repent is not by minimizing what it is. I just hate the victim card mentality that is so prevalent these days that minimizes sin. Ohh lets feel sorry for them because they are a "victim" that takes the personal blame off them so they can feel better about themselves.

I understand what you're saying but as someone else said in their comment, I believe Misty is BOTH a victim here, and also responsible for her part in all this. I don't believe anyone is giving her a free pass BUT they are giving an explanation as to the motivation for her behaviors. To explain it isn't to dismiss it. It simply sheds light on it, which exposes it for what it is.
And as someone who was sexually victimized at a young age, I can tell you that it negatively affects you in many different ways. It causes you to perceive things in a different light, to behave in ways that people don't understand. And then as a result, you end up being misunderstood...a lot. You do things YOU don't even understand because there's a root to the fruit that you don't know is there and it was put there because someone else sinned against you, deeply wounded you, and cared more about their evil desires than they did about harming you. And then to add even more pain to the gaping wound that you already have, people have no problem judging you from the outside when they can't discern your heart or God's heart in the matter (or simply don't want to). Only God, in His grace and infinite wisdom knows what it is, how it got there, and how to remove it. And that's my prayer for all of them - Complete restoration and healing back to the Father, to Jesus, to Holy Spirit, not to ministry or 'work' but to God's Heart.
