@@jackofalltradeshermes if bedrock works as intended, then I’m happy Java got it broken. As a bedrock redstoner, it can say that bedrock redstone is terrible, it’s very buggy and random. One time I built a pillar of observers attached to a slime pillar getting pushed by a piston, these observers powered pistons, it was completely random which pistons actually activated, some would fire, some wouldn’t, and next time it would be different. It’s terrible.

this was an old behavior, also the machine will not work with skell too because now they avoid holes in the ground, that's why mumbo used opened trapdoor, so they think that is a full block. Also only OG remember when water moats are overpowered and protect you from every mob because they simple dont swin.
@@Feorblack Well, undead mobs now sink, so a moat still protects against zombies and skeletons. And if the mpbs cannot get out on the other side (two blocks high) then you still have total safety.
@@Feorblack skeletons still seek for shade in daytime, I can perfectly see it on my survival world. Also, since the holes still have trapdoors, they should still be able to pathfind, whether the trapdoors are opened or not. I mean, Mumbo showed it himself.

I remember on early minecraft that I put a moat in every build for safety, also look's cool. Now I simple spam torch everywhere.

Observers, compact ice, and bubble streams really revolutionized redstone and made it far more accessible and less daunting to lower skilled players. It's amazing to see how far this game has come since beta.
Does the Seeking shade effect over right other rules though? Cause normally mobs won't cross redstone lines, and the entire trap seemed to be blocked off by a line of redstone.
There must have been a new one that was created but I was thinking the exact same thing. I remember the original red stone book coming out when I was like in early middle school or maybe even elementary tbh.

@@ForgottenInfluencer Buttons on top of blocks was added in 1.8, which came out in 2014. And for the Redstone on pistons, I think that came in 1.3, or for 2012. Observers were added in 1.11, which was 2016. Since the book was made in 2017, all three of these were in the game.

Something like that could be ideal for a minigame in which you have teams, each with a colored leather armor. In order to restock the armor, you swap the armor stands. Generally speaking, no, you won't have more than one standard armor and the one you save in case you die and need to recover your good armor and don't want to go naked.
I think the original design is actually perfect, cheap, and just enough armor stands for most players. A stand for gold armor for Bastions, another for everyday netherite gear, still another for elytra, turtle helmet, and other specialized armor.
I've always had great success just matching the button to the surface it's on. I usually do this in mountain sides where there's exposed stone, a slightly tucked away stone button is almost invisible if you're not looking for it.

His "Minecraft: 10 Redstone Projects for Beginners" is actually really helpful. He gives you a world download with all the materials you need, and then in each segment he teaches you a new redstone circuit and then gives you a goal of something to create. You pause the video, build the contraption in your own world, and then keep watching to see how Mumbo would solve the same problem. (Just note, there are some errors importing it to 1.16. So you either have to use the version it was made in or pay close attention to his set-up.)
one thing I do have to say is its cool that observers have made these contraptions so much easier, these things were made before observers so to see that these things were made so much easier by a simple block being added is very nice
9:48 I think that the “top section” in the redstone guide was like that because before 1.16 any redstone on top of pistons would pop off when it extended.
This is science vs. engineering, to a T - Taking core theoretical concepts and making them into useful designs! To make a great redstone build, as much thought goes into the actual theory (circuits etc.) as does the optimization and final design. So cool.

There were way older versions of these books, I had them, I'm guessing they updated them and didn't really improve upon much, hence the lack of observers and buttons on the floor and stuff.

The reason why all the pistons have so many repeaters is actually because the wanted the book to be helpful to both Java and Bedrock players - In bedrock, you need repeaters behind a piston except in special cases for them to fire
I think people are supposed to recognize the suboptimal designs of the builds, and improve them as part of the learning process, a soft encouragement for people to teach themselves and get them to think like a red stone engineer.
Next steps to improving redstone ability: -Learn to read Minecraft code (where one usually discovers all the weird shiz) -Watch tutorials from the technical Minecraft community... on everything -Talk with SciCraft constantly about compactifying contraptions (because that usually involves weird redstone)

From most advanced to least advanced, there could be the AP Minecraft textbook to teach about the advanced stuff like megabuilds and how to design a redstone contraption, the Honors Minecraft textbook for players who already know how to play but don't know how to get to the stage where you can make big things, and the Minecraft 101 textbook for ultra-noobs.

Comparators normally just count the number of items in a storage block, and use a corresponding signal strength. They have 2 other uses but those are less common
Having not played minecraft in years, it's weird to see these videos and realize just how much redstone has changed, as far as new tools being implemented.

Oh it's very simple. There's the normal mode where the strongest signal going in is output, and a subtract mode where the output is the time-averaged complex integral of the fifth order differential equation spelt out by the inputs.
For the piston squisher, since you said it was designed before we could crawl, that was also before we could even have redstone dust placed on top of pistons and powering them without breaking.

That cant possibly be the case. The armor stand build and trap build both use quasi connectivity, which dont exist in bedrock.

The most confusing thing about Redstone is the placement direction of observers. Definitely backwards. Will never get used to it.

I’ve enjoyed this! I’ve been learning redstone since 2019 and I have learned some new stuff today.
day 2 of telling mumbo to put a lamp in the lobby of pacific that lights up when someone is shopping so if someone else comes there theres no confusion
To me, that redstone handbook feels like Kindergarten-12th grade math, while Mumbo’s redstone is like college calculus.
the handbook is more like K-6, mumbo is 7-12, and scicraft are calculus professors

The book was made before Bedrock was released
Don't forget that the book cane out at around 1.5-1.8 times. Things like observers didn't exist. And some of the AI has also been changed
Finally mumbo knows how all of us with more then 2 brain cells feel when looking at redstone

The piston clock is actually useful for making flashing beacons or putting stained glass to have them change color.

I kinda prefer the big and loud piston clock. It really feels like a power generator, and you can build a nice metal, stone, and glass she'll around it to really sell the industrial generator look.

You know what, I’m going to create the most complex machine with Redstone that has ever been created but instead of making it out of all these weird components I’m just going to plop down observers technically replacing all the blocks in that machine with observers and seeing if it works

I have an amazing idea: A series of textbooks about Minecraft written collaboratively by the Hermitcraft members. From most advanced to least advanced, there could be the AP Minecraft textbook to teach about the advanced stuff like megabuilds and how to design a redstone contraption, the Honors Minecraft textbook for players who already know how to play but don't know how to get to the stage where you can make big things, and the Minecraft 101 textbook for ultra-noobs.

@@Heroheenie it is ages ago in minecraft time, so many new updates have come out and changed things for redstone. Many of the things mumbo did probably wouldn't have worked in the version the book creators were basing the designs on.

Comparators normally just count the number of items in a storage block, and use a corresponding signal strength. They have 2 other uses but those are less common

I’ve just accepted that you’re a redstone wizard. I have to follow step-by-step guides anytime I try to wire something up in the ol’ MC, and not understand how any of it works, as with electronic devices in real life. Thank you for delivering entertaining content, as usual!

Oh it's very simple. There's the normal mode where the strongest signal going in is output, and a subtract mode where the output is the time-averaged complex integral of the fifth order differential equation spelt out by the inputs.

The grand majority of the 'weird' things about this book can be partially attributed to the fact that this was written back in 2014.
And there were no observers
Such as, the use of a lever on the armour stand switcher was because you couldn’t place buttons on the floor back then
For the piston squisher, since you said it was designed before we could crawl, that was also before we could even have redstone dust placed on top of pistons and powering them without breaking.
