This performance by Dan is the most heart wrenching and magical I have seen and I have seen all of them. It is stage ready for Broadway and worthy of the highest awards. I enjoyed your reaction and thank you. He is more than a singer. He literally becomes the part and yes we are watching a play. His beautiful, full rich baritone in full display.

Questionable lyrics from a Biblical point of view. But it still makes me sad for what our Lord was going through. And an emotionally HEART-SHREDDING performance. When he is on his knees and sobbing.... ugh I can't handle it.

Love your reaction to this phenomenal performance by Dan. I have the same opinion about JC Superstar, but there's no way you can hear this and not be completely impressed by the sheer vocal & theatrical talent Dan possesses. It's not that he couldn't do Broadway... he refuses to play by others' rules & has stated he has no desire to be anyone's "employee". Glad to see you point out the corrections in scripture for those who aren't aware. Regardless, of the theological issues with the lyrics, this is a fantastic performance worthy of a stage & just gives me chills about like his "Music of the Night".

This was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber, 23 and Tim Rice 26. British. They wrote it as a Rock Opera, loosely based on the bible story. I saw the show in London when it opened in 1971. Dan performs this perfectly, the best I have ever seen.
This has certainly got people talking about the bible❤

I am so glad that you reacted to this song by Dan. He is truly a gifted artist. Thank you also for giving the scripture references that correct the inaccurate lyrics of this song. I believe you are the first reactor to do so and that it is important to recognize the deity of Jesus and not only his humanity. Dan's performance was beautifully powerful. He has stated that he is a believer and I would love for you to react to his song For All, which was written and performed originally by Roy Kahn, who Dan greatly admires. His outro on that one is really important to hear also. Thank you so much.

This is an absolutely phenomenal performance by Dan!❤❤ I absolutely agree about the scriptural references being "off the mark" and it has always been a controversial talking point. Thankyou for your reaction and looking forward to more Dan reactions, thankyou😃

I crack up every time I listen to it. The first time, I couldn't get through to the end and I had to wait a week before being able to listen to it. And there will always be tears listening to it. I know why! This voice and this interpretation are an exception and Dan presents such stage suffering that I feel it makes me tremble! He is completely in the body of Christ and in the fear he may have felt. Dan Vasc has it all figured out. I know how he achieved this performance beyond talent. His voice is infinite.

I have seen as many versions of this song as I can find, from Iron Chef Chairman to Kermit the frog. NO ONE brings the combination of technical expertise and passion play emotion that Dan does. St. Luke was a "doctor" who said that in the Garden, Jesus sweat was in the form of blood droplets. You can feel all of that pain, conflict and bargaining in this song as Jesus, the man, experiences the five stages of grief, before finally accepting his role as the Lamb.

This performance by Dan gets me in the feels (as the kids say, these days lol) every single time I see/hear it. I don't agree at all with Lloyd-Weber's characterization of Christ in the garden and I genuinely don't believe that Dan does either. He is a Christian and he's not at all shy about his faith. He's said that he was raised in the church and while I've never heard him speak about this song specifically in any of the podcasts I've seen him on, I assume that he has a pretty clear understanding of the scriptural reality behind The Agony in the Garden. Andrew Lloyd-Weber said himself, that this was the most difficult piece to perform, that he'd ever written and as I've learned more about Dan's personality and his passion for his craft, it's pretty clear to me that taking on a piece like Gethsemane, was all about the challenge for him. Dan's the kind of guy who's always going to be significantly more determined to do something that he's been told is extremely difficult to undertake. LOL

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU...for your excellent reaction to this song! I'm in TOTAL agreement with you regarding the "theology" portrayed in the play, and in this song. YES! THANK YOU, for your insertion at 3:55.
...and YES...regarding the character-representation from the play, itself, and how Dan is able to BE that representative character. WOW!!! He is a strong believer, himself, but the type of perception from the play is pretty widespread (sigh).
At 5:00 -- YES, again. I just (last week) wrote out a "treatise" about JUST that subject. The Father, the Son, and the Spirit are TOTALLY three, and TOTALLY one. Jesus knew EXACTLY what He was going to do, and WHY. He IS the Word of God, and there is no such thing, as (at 7:41) Him NOT STARTING what had to happen...and at 8:30...there would be NO "changing of his mind." What He had to do was planned from the very beginning, when He, Himself SPOKE EVERYTHING into creation.
I'm REALLY glad you reacted JUST as you did. WELL DONE! You really have made my day (it's 10:29 PM on Wednesday, April 24, 2024).

You have my respect, for listening to and evaluating a song whose lyrics do not reflect your belief. I am impressed that you could clearly state your beliefs about the flawed bible story, very eloquently. This impresses me much more than the hell and damnation responses of some other people. You seem very grounded and are a very special person. Bravo. Dan’s version of this song was indeed Epic.

We will never know how the mortal Jesus was wrestling with the truth of what was about to happen as he prayed in the Garden of Agony, the performance Dan gives actually makes you feel as if you were there, brings into focus just how much Jesus gave up for us, His family, His loyal followers, His Life.. yes it is 'based' on the Bible, as with many things 'based' on written text in films etc poetic licence was used.. When I listen to this it makes me think not of the show but of exactly what my Faith is based on, so many today shun Faith.. Dan is a young man not afraid to speak or sing of his Faith, and if listening to this inspires even just 1 person at a time back to Christ then I have no problem with the poetic licence being used. The truth will be revealed to them and their souls will rejoice.

Yes, this musical does not show Jesus as God, HOWEVER SCRIPTURE DOES SAY THIS in Luke 22:44 - "And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground." Though His spirit was all God, His flesh and mind (soul) was human, and he was in great anguish thinking about all He would be going through. I don't think it was simple for Him, but He knew in the end that He would be willing to do God's will. I didn't watch the whole musical, but Dan's version of this song really shows us the emotional battle He had before saying "yes" and totally settling His mind and heart. It's our example of the struggle in our own flesh, but in the end, we should say, "Your will, not mine." His love for us is so great!
