"Hi, family!" I like that so much :) In fact I love all about your vids. I can drop my thumbs up even before starting to watch them! Back to Faure's Pavane, this is one of my favourites of all classical music. I enjoyed playing it when I was 30 (no teachers like Amelie, those days), and I enjoy now, 35 years after, listening to this magnificent rendition. Thanks a lot for the lesson. It encourages me to re-take the flute again.
There are so many weird things about this piece and how I found it. When I was in camp there were 6 flutists, 3 better ones and two beginners. And there was I, not that good but not a beginner anymore. The three older ones played this piece when the younger ones were practising the pieces we had with the wind band. And I was in the middle, I switched between the two groups. They had this piece as an ensemble and I played the 4th part because I wasn't always there. So after the camp I didn't have the sheets anymore and I also didn't know how it was called, I just remembered that it started with a p. So that happened when I was eleven. Last year I was really interested in music like also those romantic pieces. Then I watched a video where this exact piece was played and I was like "oh, I guess I just found that piece that I was looking for for 5 years" Yesterday I found the sheets on the internet and I downloaded it. Somehow I was watching some of your videos and I saw that you're about to do a practise video. It was such a coincidence😂
A friend was checking my F and he played this song. I love it since just as much as air, meditation, etc. Thanks for the video and great insights on the subtleties in playing.
"you don't shout that you love people" we don't have to play it loud to make things expressive" I learned that after hearing the mahler 10th symphony excerpt flute last movement by derick cooke's version. it may seem obvious but there's a lot of things you can learn by just understand these statements.
I love your tone. Also very good advice. Singing while playing is an excellent technique, I find it really opens up my throat. I hear a huge difference in my sound production. Thank you.
Hello Amelie. Thank you for your videos. I have a question about the lower register. How we can keep it in tune the whole time and keep it.. Do you have a video to show us the best position/embouchure/breathing that can help us improve the low register? Without suffering a lot :) Thanks in advance
Hi Maria! Yes you can check out this video about the low register. th-cam.com/video/wAqz1RN_oWM/w-d-xo.html But I will also make a video of just exercises to try in the future. Thank you for taking the time to comment and watch, hope to hear back from you!
The Flute Channel no thanks for you for taking the time to read and and answer back so promptly. I am going to check the video and am looking forward for the low register new video. Also, I think I have watched your 3rd register video, but also that problem I am always facing to stay in tune 🙈 Thanks a lot really. Maria from Lebanon :)
Really not a problem! My pleasure : ) Go to our video tab and check all the videos. We might have a couple more videos to help out. Plus the video "5 minute warm up for flutist in a hurry" can definitely help.
Hi Amelie, Thank you very much for the video. I have a question about the tone colour. I struggle to hear the difference between a lighter and darker tone (forget about trying to produce it at the moment). It is not just say using flutes made with different metals, but even when someone trying to use one flute to play different tone colour (Trevor Wye Tone book CD has those examples). They are meant to be different but to me they sound too close (for me) to tell. Is there anything I can do to improve in this aspect?
So thats a big questions, but a great one. Ill add a thought here but stay tuned to a video talking about it. I would agree that using particular metals of flute doesn't always warrant the lighter or darker tone. But what does contribute is the amount of air used, the type of embouchure and timing (dramatic effect) plus much more mind you. I would experiment a lot. But this topic is hard word out in a comment so I'm looking forward to making a video on this. Thanks for the great comment.
