  • On Ring Of The Hawk we always listen to the fans, thank you to JJ for suggesting this on Patreon and also a bunch of other cool guys on TH-cam. I will be doing his WWE run at some point but for now this is the TNA run. He kept taking shots at Brock Lesnar over the plan ride from hell it was funny!

    Anyone who was born in the mid-late 80’s(‘86 for me) that grew up watching the glory days of the WWF knows that Curt Hennig was an amazing performer not only in the ring but on the mic, promos, & commentary as well! He played the “Mr. Perfect” character perfect! I believe when he first debuted they played him as an extraordinary athlete who’s excelled in all the sports he’s done in his life & he knew he was the best as well. Hints his old WWF entrances he’d come out with his white towel, hair & body oiled up, obnoxiously chomping on gum & about halfway down or at the ring he would spit the gum in the air & hit it away with his hand. His style was something anyone who’s actually wrestled in their lives(not “pro” wrestling) just wrestled in school or on other teams wether it’s folk, freestyle, or Greco Roman he had moves from all of them he implemented into his matches with the shots on the legs from folk & freestyle, to the suplex’s & throws from Greco Roman & of course some traditional “pro wrestling only moves” but that wasn’t his whole game at all! IMO he was an amazing athlete in & out of the ring, & IMO he is still the only WWF superstar that really used 85-90% real world moves in all his matches & the other 10-15% of the moves were traditional WWF moves like elbow drops off the second rope, etc. but anyone with a good amount of real world wrestling experience regardless of they’ve never ever seen a single WWF or “pro wrestling” match in their life can take 1 look at a WWF Mr. Perfect match & see that he was an athlete way before he hit the squared circle. If anyone ever got the chance to meet him in person, Curt was the absolute nicest most humble “superstar” that you would ever wanna meet. Curt loved kids and would NEVER, EVER SAY “NO” to a kid who asked for an autograph or picture. It didn’t matter if he was at a WWF event or if he was seen just in public every kid who seen him & knew who he was & approached him was always given what they asked for! He didn’t hurry them away either he would sit & chit chat with the little kids and ask them what they wanted to be when they grew up, are they doing good in school, do they mind their parents? Just general chit chat to his little fans. My all time favorite gesture that Curt would do is if he had just come from or was heading to an event he would ALWAYS make sure that he had some of his WWF & WCW(later on) memorabilia in his car. Wether they were Mr. Perfect t shirts, Mr. Perfect replica towels, Mr. Perfect Hasbro WWF figures, Mr. Perfect posters, Mr. Perfect foam fingers, Mr. Perfect signed 8x10s, and he always was stocked with the superstar themed teddy bears the WWF used to sell. They were a small/medium sized basic teddy bear but would have whatever superstar they were for shirt on & in some cases other gear like for example Bret Harts bear had a pink shirt & his famous glasses on, HBKs had on what resembled his old entrance attire when he first went solo like the golf hat he’d wear, Takers had on a black coat, vest, hat, & gloves & they had the grey for original & a purple variant when he went black & purple! Curt’s had on a neon green & neon blue Mr. Perfect shirt & had a mini towel stitched on his right hand & the earlier runs also had stringy blonde hair. Curt loved being approached by his young fans in public & would always figure out a way to implement his ring persona of being “perfect” into a little pep talk for them saying inspirational things! 1 of my favorites was “No matter what you do in your life wether you like it or are made do it for instance homework or tests in school if you always strive for perfection & you know that you did your absolute best then you’ll never ever have any reason to be disappointed in yourself” Curt was a hell of a superstar, a hell of an athlete, & most importantly AN AMAZING HUMAN BEING! Sure he had his personal vices but that never interfered with him and anyone else like fans or the public! Curt Hennig was a great person PERIOD! I’m just lucky that I was able to call him UNCLE CURT! R.I.P Uncle C 💪🏻 you’re not forgotten down here!

Sure he has legend status, and is usually somewhere on the list of WWF Legends, but I feel like most people don't really think of Perfect when they think of "Greatest Wrestlers of All Time". • @itsdoomedjack9774
      @itsdoomedjack9774 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @greenbay I never said anything about him needing to hold the title. Why is everyone equating "overlooked" as "needed the Heavyweight Championship". I'm saying that the people: wrestling fans, old folk who use to watch the product back in the day, the current generation that watch wrestling that predates them, and even wrestlers themselves don't seem to give Curt the praise he deserves. The only people I've seen put Curt over, and give him the fluffing he deserved are Scott Hall, X-Pac, and Brock Lesnar. Everyone else just adds him to the list of legends, and never really go into detail as to why he's so great (except mentioning the debut promos he had) Everyone goes into great detail about how amazing Ricky Steamboat was, or how great The Macho Man was, or about how Flair is the greatest of all time, but personally, I feel Perfect should be regarded in the same light as those guys. Also, Perfect could've held the title during his run with Flair and Heenan; I don't think the title would've "hurt his legacy" at all. I do agree that some guys really don't deserve the title, but guys like: Piper, Perfect, Jake, Razor, Owen, Snuka, and Steamboat could've held the title without it hurting their "legacy". I'm not saying they all should've gotten it, but it wouldn't have hurt anything if they did

    I'll just chip in with something that the wrestlers care about, as they work 300 days a year. Curt is universally recognized as one of the safest wrestlers to work with. Bret Hart called working with Curt "a night off". Something fans don't care much about, but to someone living out of a suitcase flying all around the world whether hurt or no, this is a huge compliment. The super-stiff guys were getting orders from promoters who didn't necessarily care if wrestlers get worn down. The best workers in that era went out of their way to ensure their working partner wasn't injured. You were always safe with them. In wrestling your body is your livelihood, you use it to earn money. The best wrestlers took care of their opponent. Bret's most proud of the fact that over 30 years and tens of thousands of executed moves in the big-man era that none of his partners were hurt from them. He said "I'm glad I made a living pretending to hurt my friends and not the real thing."

    Anyone else notice he was wearing an XWF singlet in his debut match? The red and yellow one? The XWF was a promotion Jimmy Hart started in 2001 after WCW folded. Curt Hennig had a match against Hulk Hogan in the XWF. It was on one of the Hulk Hogan anthology DVDs.

    Also, at 06:25, Curt actually did a unique neck snap from a piledriver/powerbomb position. It looks like he knees Truth in the side of his face, but actually, he uses his legs to hold Truth's head in place then shuffles them to the side with force, creating a neck snap. From challenging Brock to take down contests while in WWE, then berating him in promos while in TNA, it’s clear he was unhappy with his rise in wrestling. You should do ROTH instead of ROH as your logo so that you don't have to eventually edit it out when you catch Ring of Honor's attention. They'll probably pull a world wildlife fund once your audience matches their viewership, then you'll have to go back and pixelate all of your old ROH logos just to stay monetized.
