Glad the video helped you out. If your fan is humming but not turning on you can spray some wd-40 on the shaft & give the fan blades a spin then turn the switch on & see if it starts working again. I plugged in a hairdryer to check if it was the plug...it did not turn on...then I tried a coffee grinder and it worked...do I need to replace the fan only or the whole unit. ??
If you have the same style exhaust fan, the motor comes on the cage. Just replace it like I did in the video. If your having power issues at the outlet inside the fan housing I would have an electrician look at that, but if other things are working in that outlet and the fan isn't, it's definitely the fan. Where can you get these replacements?! Lowes or home depot!.

My bathroom fan stopped working, the job looks easy but I'm not sure which switch to turn off in the breaker box.
You can start with shutting the breaker off to the bathroom but you will need a good flashlight or some type of light if you don't have a window in your bathroom. If you have a multimeter to check for power use that or one of those non contact voltage testers that you can hold near the wires & it will beep if the line has power & it won't beep if the line doesn't have power. But always test it out on something with power first to make sure it's working. I would use that at the fan wires with the bathroom breaker on & see if it beeps, then shut the breaker off & see if it still beeps or stops beeping before you mess with any wires. Question ? I have a new entire unit, can I remove just the fan motor assembly from the newly purchased unit and just install it and just keep the housing for later use, thanks, it's a nutone 696 N..
Yes you can do that if you would like. If there's nothing wrong with the housing (which I've never had an issue with a housing), you can just take the motor & housing plate off the complete assembly & install it. That's what I installed in the video. I just didn't buy the whole assembly, I just bought the motor with the housing the motor is attached to. Thanks for watching RB K & Subscribe to the channel 👍
Do you know how to check the model of the fan ?
Should be listed on the housing it sits in, or look at the motor and write down the numbers on motor and search them on google and something should come up with that motor and what it's used for, which should show a bathroom exhaust fan. Thanks for watching & Subscribe to the channel 👍
I have the same bathroom fan and when the original fan stopped working i went to Lowes and bought a new one and replaced it. It worked for about a Month and then it also stopped working. I dont want to keep buying a new fan every time it stops turning on. Something else must be causing them to stop working. The motor should last more than a month.
Yeah it should, unless you got a defective fan. I would take that fan back to Lowe's & tell them it only worked for a few weeks & have them swap it out for you & see how that one does. Thanks for watching JNC1973 & help support the channel by subscribing 🛠️👍

Can you lubricant your exhaust fan
I've had some luck in the past lubricating the shaft where it goes into the motor but only on ones that are a little noisy. Some have gotten quiet & others it didn't make a difference. Thanks for watching Gary & help support the channel by subscribing 👍

What actually kills the motor in the first place? like is it possible just to replace the transformer in the motor? Seems ridiculous that the answer is always, "Screw in a new component and throw the old one away."
They don't sell any parts to rebuild the motor unless u took it to a shop & had it rebuilt. But the motors are cheap & I wouldn't waste time rebuilding one. You can get a complete fan (motor, housing, grill) for like $20-$25. I hear ya on fixing things instead of replacing but some things aren't just worth it like this. I replaced the motor but mine has no suction .. it will not pull air
It's really hard to say without seeing it in person, but it may have never been properly hooked up to function properly from day 1. If it was me, I would make sure the vent pipe wasn't blocked or the flap on the box where the motor mounts is stuck closed. Last thing to check is the outlet of the exhaust vent where it exits the building (aslong as it's accessible & easy to check). Good luck man. Thanks for watching & Subscribe to the channel 👍
@@ApartmentMaintenance I removed that plastic flap just in case and still nothing it seems to be using one of those legit vent pipes not just a metal dryer one but it looks like black plastic and I’m guessing the outside is insulated … should I call an hvac guy to handle this?
