    This video should be called "10 great JRPGs I wish were released on the Playstation".
    Its a good list of hidden Gems, but you seem to assume that any JRPG released on a Playstation Console is automatically going to sell well. Which just isnt true, its a niche market in the west. And unless the game belongs to a established franchise, they will always struggle to sell massive amounts of copies.

      I agree with your first statement. But he (Erick) is a Sony fanboy. So to him, every RPG should only be released on a PlayStation system and other systems shouldn't get anything. Kinda sad that he's so narrow minded.

    • @carlosaugusto9821
      @carlosaugusto9821 ปีที่แล้ว

      But that's obvious, it's the result of gaming history developments that just put Nintendo infinitely behind Sony in terms of being welcoming to rpgs. Even though all franchises had history on Nintendo. And that basically shaped the rest of the genre's history.
      Secondly, it was perfectly fine to have released ports for PS consoles. I honestly don't see him turning things into a battle of exclusives. Like everything must be exclusive on the PS. He's is just disappointed that the game wasnt on PS too. PS consoles, including portables in this case, should have gotten ports of those good games that ended up exclusive in other systems.

    I don't agree with the whole "wrong console" thing; in some of these game's cases it was the platform holder trying to get more gamers interested in the product. If they never even tried and the games just went to the default "right" consoles then that just creates a Catch-22 for those consoles and it basically means less competition which is never a good thing.
    Some of these games only exist because a vacuum was present on these consoles to allow for experimentation and a niche to be filled, which might not have existed on other platforms where these games are both more popular and take up a lot of space (makes it harder for less-known games to get an audience). Plus with these games being exclusive (currently or not) to those systems it adds value to the back catalog for those systems and gives some people a reason to venture off the same old console or two to try new games in the genre, which is probably healthy overall for gaming.

    • @renereyes2648
      @renereyes2648 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I feel what your saying, but I also understand his point as well in some cases the GameCube was a solid home for JRPGs it helped reinstate popularity for the Tales of series in the west. But some games Like Lost Odyssey and Infinite Undiscovery Definatley as the Fanbase was pretty defined that Gen. PlayStation and Nintendo was the place for Platformers, Fighting games, Racing Games, andRPGs and Xbox was well heavy FPS and “Gritty Shooters community. So I think that’s the point he was trying to make.

    • @samalton5837
      @samalton5837 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@renereyes2648 What are you talking about? The fanbase definitely wasn't "pretty defined" by the time Lost Odyssey came out, that was 2007, only a year after PS3's release during a period where the PS3 was struggling with quite a lot of content especially in the West, dev costs for it being expensive compared to 360 and the system being very difficult for many Japanese devs as they were moving to the HD era, again compared to 360.
      And Infinite Undiscovery was 2008; again, that 2006 - 2009 period in particular was really rough for devs to transition to PS3, and the Western market became much bigger for JRPGs then. The Wii wasn't powerful enough for a lot of those games hence why we saw some exclusives for 360 as well as games like FF going multiplat for the first time in their history with mainline entries.
      Also your history is way out of whack; it was the 360 that was home for fighters that gen. 360 version of SFIV was the tournament standard, it had the better port of VF5, as well as quite a lot of other fighting games. It didn't have some of the smaller games like Skullgirlz but it had all the big ones and was the preferred platform for them because XBL was actually good unlike PSN at that time.
      If that was the "point" he was trying to make then he's actually 100% factually wrong when we can look at the timelines and data and see what games actually released for these consoles back then and the conditions leading to them, so again I don't follow this notion there was a "wrong" platform for these games; if the fans really care about a game they will go where the game is it's always been that way before and it'll be that way again in the future...provided they're aware of the game, or the platform is commercially available.

      Blah blah blah, whatever, in the end no home console managed to scratch PS's status with rpgs. Cases like Ogre Battle 64, Baten Kaitos, etc were truly wastes. At the very least there should have been ports to the PS. Like Tales of Symphonia, that released first on the GC and then got a PS2 port. Very simple solution.

      @Boom Aloom I'd argue that I need it based on the fact you haven't refuted anything I've said. The only reason Xbox was ever billed as the "MP console" is because XBL is far superior to PS and Nintendo online offering. It had no shortage of SP games lol. I mean Bioshock and Mass Effect were originally exclusives back in the day. Gears and Halo have strong SP components. Not to mention games like Lost Obyssey and Infinite Undiscovery from the times you are claiming. Thanks for confirming YOU have no factual basis to your argument though. Cheers.

      Exactly all of those Gamecube JRPGs did well because a Gamecube JRPG was an event. A JRPG on the PS2 was just another Tuesday. I think the Japanese sales of Tales of Smyphonia on Gamecube compared to the PS2 proves that. Baten Kaitos sold better than a huge amount of PS2 JRPGs.

      @@Chelaxim In Japan, or in the US?
      I personally would blame the sales of more niche JRPGs on Final Fantasy and Kingdom Heart's success. Since FF's decline, more series(like Persona, Kiseki/Trails, Xenoblade, Tales of) have been seeing some recognition. GameCube didn't have that competition, but it also wasn't really a console a lot of RPG players owned. That's my theory, anyway.

    Actually thinking about it, putting skies of arcadia on the gamecube was a smart idea that sadly didn't go well.
    It was around the time that Sega and Nintendo started working together also Sonic Adventure,2 Battle, Advance trillogy and Heroes were way more popular than the original Dreamcast version. So sega thought they might make lighting strike again for an rpg this time so they put out skies of arcadia legends. I'm pretty sure there were some kids who not only got introduced to sonic games on the GC but also skies of arcadia along with Tales of, Paper Mario, Fire emblem. So... I think sega did a good job. Just didn't get lucky.

    Downvoted for giving incorrect information. Both Infinite Undiscovery and Lost Odyssey (just like Blue Dragon) are backwards compatible and playable on the Xbox Series X with better performance and graphics. You mean "the right console" is an aging piece of hardware and that is sure to fail and with no way to play the games anywhere else and with Sony attempting to shutdown PSN for it? Sony doesn't give a f*** about backwards compatibility and any game for it will be forever lost. Virtually any platform is better than Playstation. "The right console" my ***. Good luck with your PS3 and when it breaks pray that the used one you buy as a replacement lasts longer than yours did, otherwise all those RPGs will be forever gone.

      If Xbox's big type games went exclusive for one game on another system the xbox players would be just as annoyed. Xbox isn't known for rpg's let alone jrpgs. Xbox is mostly fps, fighting games, sports games, and racing. True they have a bunch of other game types but these are majority that xbox focuses on and caters to. Which is perfectly ok. Sony has their list also while nintendo focuses hard on games for children and family party games. The issue is when you take a brand normally focused on one console and make an exclusive on a different one people dont own people tend to feel as if the corporations are trying to force them to buy a system they don't own for one game since they know they aren't interested in the rest of that systems library. And some people cant afford to pay for a secord or third system. And this is why people get upset. Beside Most Xbox players doesn't care for JRPG. Proof is the fact rpgs and jrpgs for the most part dont sell well on the xbox. The audiance isnt there. There are a few outliers true. Skyrim, fable, fallout. But two of those have fps type game play not just rpg. The other is an action rpg. But traditional rpgs and jrpgs dont have a real audience on xbox. So they dont sell well. If they dont sell the series tends to die. That is why these are seen as on the wrong console.
