Thank you for the video, I'm gonna go to driving school soon, and while I have experience driving automatic, the gear changes in manual is what worries me a little.
tThanks for confirming a few things for me. Been driving my S2000 for some time and I naturally developed some of the skills that were mentioned in this video. I try and keep forward momentum when accelerating hard, but the downside is it does have some passenger thrown forward despite the shift being perfectly smooth at a wide open throttle acceleration. Now I will only do that with me in the car only or on a track day. With passenger, I'll focus on that steady speed then shift. Also confirming that clutch should be pushed down quickly as oppose to slowly, then off gas, and also the preparing of the hands, and clutch foot. There was a part of me that thought shifting smoothly might translate to slower clutch movement pressing down, but from experience I did find quicker clutch down leads to smoother shifts in general. The preparation aspect is also an important thing I was probably doing occasionally, but didn't realize it was that important.

Hand position on the gear lever is very important for a quick, accurate change. With a standard 5 or 6 spring-loaded H pattern, palm to the left for selecting first and second. Extra insurance to prevent first to fourth. Palm to the right for fifth, and sixth if you have it. Don't just plop your hand palm down on the lever except for third and fourth. Make an art of it. Be skilful, stylish, and graceful. Caress that gear lever. Finally, if you remove the boot over the gear lever you may find that the joints at the bottom of the lever are often hard nylon plastic. They last longer than metal, but they can't take as much force. Be gentle.
I learned how to drive manual from someone however they never drove smoothly. So I got bad habits from them. I'm trying to now learn how to drive my car very smoothly so it last longer.

His control on gas pedal is on god level.
😂 I wouldn't go that far but thank you.
Thank you for the video, I'm gonna go to driving school soon, and while I have experience driving automatic, the gear changes in manual is what worries me a little.
Good luck, I hope you enjoy it.
tThanks for confirming a few things for me.
Pushing the clutch sown quickly will help you shift smoothly. Try to reduce the gas a bit before you push the clutch down.
I’ve got my practical test tomorrow, I’m just going over some last minute revision.
Good luck, I hope it goes well.

@@mattcampbell5941 thanks. I like what you did there 😂.
@@thelegend3965 it’s a gift I have, and well done 👍
Very well done ,instructor! You learn on a GRADIENT ,otherwise student gets OVerwhelmed
Jako przedstawiciel w większości prowadzący pojazdy z manualną skrzynią biegów twierdzę że zmienia te biegi jak stara babcia.Brak jakiegoś takiego efektu wow przy zmianie.
I was taught the press the clutch quickly method you mentioned at 2:46
Hand position on the gear lever is very important for a quick, accurate change.
This guy is legend.
Great video as always! I'm perparing for my final exam, your lessons already helped me a lot! (The left-hand traffic looks frightening sometimes, I'm not used to it. :D )
I enjoy the pleasure of manual driving, but Id pick this leon with the amazing DSG gearbox, it's wonderful.
Went out driving, was coming across this exact issue, you helped me see what I've been doing wrong. Muchas gracias.
NOTICE: You can't do that in a old car,,you have to let off the gas completely because the engine will rev up if you keep your foot on the gas paddle
Was thinking the same thing
@Its_only_ Karma Hi, I'm a novice, just wondering if in your opinion its alright to press in the clutch quickly to change gears in an older car. Thank you if you answer
@@Karl-pu5cn I would personally do it only after a WOT(Wide open throttle) pull but yet not that quickly because some older cars may just miss the shift or not let you shift that quickly at all
how old?
@@tvmp i'd like to know that too, how old are we talking here? cars from for example 2000 or a lot older?
I’ve just recently started having issues with this so great video timing!
Thank you. This has helped me to drive better.
I'm still doing my lessons, but I rarely ever look at the Rev meter thing, I just go by feel.
The other day I only stalled the car once and that was literally right at the end of my lesson.
The rev counter is good to help you learn but ultimately you want to use sound and feel.
i had no idea you could press the clutch and gas at the same time :O i've always been told to come off the gas and then press the clutch, change gear, release clutch, and come on the gas again
Don't do this if you live in the rest of the world.
This is what I was looking for, thank you so much
Omg thank you thank you thank youuu I was having the problem of the car jerking when I clutched down to change gear
Thanks for the video! I also would like to see a video about when to use each gear in real traffic. I mean, I know the basics about speed and revs, but it would be nice to see how to use that theory in real driving with some examples.
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll consider it.
Nice 🙂 and lovely lots of hugs 🤗 you are one of my favorite driving instructor TH-camr one question sir I hope you can clear me personally I like automatic cars 🚗 and Soon I can buy please tell me automatic car and manaul car judgement and skills are same because I can take lessons from your videos and you are mostly making videos on manual cars that's why I'm asking thanks love you
Many skills are the same, with a manual you have the clutch and gears to learn also.
I broke out into laughter at "kettle of fish". I'm sorry, I was not prepared for that idiom.
To be honest I don't even realise I'm using idioms most of the time, it's just what I'm used to.
Thank you so much sir !! This video is so much necessary ✨✨✨. Preparing before starting the changing gears really helped me . I used to press the cluth and then search for the gear stick with my hand and sometimes its hard to find it because i have to look the at the road 😂 . One issue am facing now is that i tend to turn the wheels to the right while i am shifting gears. I think its because too much stress i put on the wheel And i know its a serious issue need to work on ⚠️
It's normal for new drivers to do that, try to think about steering more than gears when changing gears. Gets easier but steering actually takes more concentration than gears.
@@ConquerDriving absolutely! you are a lifesaver!
