+World Driving *I was also wondering if you will be posting videos of more advanced techniques, such as downshifting (not block shifting). Lately, I have been having some trouble coming up to a turn, and then trying to downshift and make a quick turn. It's not smooth and the car jerks a bit.*
+AzNightmare Give the accelerator a little tap as you change down and it will make everything much smoother takes a bit to master but it works great does hamper fuel economy a tad but it's not noticeable unless you drive something thirsty
Adam Staines *You're talking about rev matching, right?* I posted this about a month ago and I've been driving to work daily. Got this down pretty good now. Although in the Fiesta ST, I find from 3rd to 2nd, I have to really step on the accelerator hard just to rev it high enough to make it smooth. Whereas any other gears (5 to 4, 4 to 3), it's smooth as butter with a light tap.
+AzNightmare That's it bud, Rev matching! I find the exact same with any car I've driven 5th to 4th is easy and smooth and so is 4th to 3rd I've been driving the same car the last 14 months so I'm really used to it now. I can get 3rd to 2nd most time but as you said you have to really build up the revs to get it smooth, I just knock it into neutral if I'm coming to a near stop like 10mph.

the real seneca Not always, it depends on the car. I drive a Mini and my gears are 1st=0-10, 2nd 11-24, 3rd 25-40, 4th 41... well actually idk any higher than that since I'm currently restricted to 45mph, but my car is really high geared
Great tutorials - just started teaching our 16 year old daughter to drive our manual this week in US, where she'll be quite unique - ALOT of automatics over here -and driving starts at a young age. You are keeping us both calm and on track. Thanks!
At 2:30 there are some pedestrians! In the UK you wouldn't normally stop for pedestrians unless they're looking the other way and just blindly walking into the road, they've already stepped into the road or it's a pedestrian crossing :)
This video really helps! I've been trying to learn how to down shift and so many people add nonsense to the subject but you kept it simple and clean. Keep it up man!

Hi! If the car starts to struggle uphill then change down to lower gear. Keep in a low gear when going down a steep downhill (engine braking) as this will help keep you slow.
+World Driving Thank you very much for this video. I would like to know, what about smaller areas, when I am trying to maneuver to park a car or move out of a parking space which is immensely crowded with cars. I tend to not release my feet from the clutch for the fear that the car would jump suddenly and stop. This also happens in immense traffic, I do not release the clutch while driving or if I want to brake, or slow down, I have to press the brake along with the clutch. Is that the right practice? Is there a way to brake and not let the engine stop completely - I feel by pushing the brakes as well as the clutches I can control the car better. Please let me know I look forward to your response.
I’ve been block changing down the gears all of my driving life (30 years) and I always thought it was wrong to do it. I honestly thought it would be a driving test fail. Who knew I was right all this time. Wow 😀

This was so calming and very informative, unlike other videos I’ve watched. I drove my first (used!) manual car for the first time yesterday and I was stalling left and right, hearing some awful noises. I cried at one point! 😂 anyway thanks man. This helped a lot especially with the hills and the slowing down part.
Man, thank you so much! I've been driving automatic cars for years now and I was thinking about learning manual as many drivers told me it's much more fun and you have more control of your vehicle. Your video explains everything very clearly. I'm going to start with my vehicle that has an automatic transmission with 8 speed. Once I'm comfortable with that, I'll buy a cheap stick-shift manual car to practice. Thank you very much, I'm building confidence!

Hi there, I'm from New Zealand and was involved in heavy transport and tourism. We were taught the art of "skip shifting" gears, the same as you mentioned in the video about "block shifting". We were driving heavy trucks with up to 18 spd gears. Some trucks had "EPS" gear shift. Electronic Gear Shift. Quite difficult to master because you're driving against a computer operated gear box.
This video is brilliant. When I was learning to drive, I had questions such as "What happens if I do this?" and my instructor always replied with "Don't do it.". This video answers those questions I had :)
I passed a month ago yesterday and only just got a car 5 days ago! I found my poor little car shaking and 'bunny hopping' for a reason I didn't actually understand, however after this video, I now have realised that I'm going too fast when I was to drop my gears, causing the car to shake and bunny hop! You are amazing! Thank you :)
Thank you for making such an amazing video.i was very confused about changing gears in manual car but this video cleared all of my doubts.i was looking for such kind of video from a long time, there are many videos on this topic but none is as informative and easy to understand as this.i appreciate your hard work and your vision of how to make the viewers understand the whole process easily.

The quality on these videos is just amazing. I passed my car test back in January but I need to brush up on a couple of things before buying a car and these videos have been a great help! Also, holy shit man your voice is so calming!
Such a calm voice, detailed and clear explanation, very useful video. You have explained in such a way that it is very much clear and to the point, covers all aspects and no doubts at all. Much clear than what they teach in driving school
Had to leave a comment cos this video is by far the best manual tutorial online . I love how you show what happens when u do things incorrectly cos it makes viewers learn even more .

I'm an american. For some reason, I can't stop watching these video's. Even though I use an automatic for my car, I always liked learning how to drive a manual system.
Actually, if you drive outside of London, it is pretty safe (ofc there will be the likelihood of accidents as with every road). Also, driving on the 'wrong' side depends on the country; us Brits say that Americans drive on the wrong side (even though there is no correct side).
People in the US do this often in trailer parks, as the typical road rules seem to be a little ah... bent, in these areas. When you have people parked on both sides of the road, it gets very annoying and angering quite quickly.
I've got ocd. So i use first upto 10, then 2nd to twenty then 3rd to 30, 4th to forty,5th to 50,6th to 60+. And reverse for going backwards. That's just how i roll.
Best tutorial, I've seen a lot of tutorials on how to drive manual cars, most just teach about going from nuetral to first, and most never mention going down in gears.
Really good that ''Incorrect Gear'' use is shown...the horrid juddering that happens. 👍 I remember asking my Instructor ''what IS that??''...I learned in a very hilly City. {do we ever really stop leaning, though??}
Coming from someone who is just starting to learn to drive, this was really helpful as i have been a bit confused with gear changing and how and when it should work
3:45 I'd like to state that you could alternatively tap the throttle slightly as you've got the clutch pedal depressed to match the revs to the gear before letting out on the clutch. This would bring the engine and wheels into rotational harmony through the gearbox's ratio and cause no undue wear/tear/stress/discomfort.
Thank you very much for the detailed and informative tutorial on how to drive manual cars! This is just what I was looking for. I currently drive an automatic car. I think its easy to drive a manual, all you gotta do is shift those gears. I couldn't find this kind of information on how to shift gears anywhere on the internet.
I don't know that having your car in 4th and 5th gear running at 1200 RPM is good at all as it was in this video. That will lug the engine in those gears you need to be doing at least 1500 really.
@@gravemind6536 you're gonna lug it if you floor the gas in low rpms and high gear. You normally downshift depending on your speed if you want to accelerate quickly. Not to mention it's a diesel engine
I saw this video when I was learning to drive at 22 years old now after a year I’ve driven like 4000km and now everything happens automatically muscle memory or something else but it’s great. Sure I’ve had screeched the car a bit but I believe it’s the part of the learning process.
@@olahdanihair In the UK you dont have to stop for pedestrians unless it is a crossing with markings such as a zebra crossing or traffic light crossing. Because they hadnt gone on the road this was perfectly legal

I would hate driving in those streets!' But good video man'
uk roads look dangerous asf
Actually, if you drive outside of London, it is pretty safe (ofc there will be the likelihood of accidents as with every road). Also, driving on the 'wrong' side depends on the country; us Brits say that Americans drive on the wrong side (even though there is no correct side).
Statistically UK roads are some of the safest in the world, and the safest in Europe. You should go to Italy, the roads there are insane.
U should go to asia
Try driving in Asia, and in crazy traffic
Is it because the roads look narrow? They are indeed narrow but definitely not dangerous.
OMG you guys use half of the road for parking .. That's interesting ...
Adarsh Sn also very annoying
People in the US do this often in trailer parks, as the typical road rules seem to be a little ah... bent, in these areas. When you have people parked on both sides of the road, it gets very annoying and angering quite quickly.
I've got ocd. So i use first upto 10, then 2nd to twenty then 3rd to 30, 4th to forty,5th to 50,6th to 60+. And reverse for going backwards. That's just how i roll.
Nevermind what about the r for racing?
@@gonetea4081 it actually stands for ronald
Passed my test 6 months ago. Still come back to these videos.
Appreciate you watching 👍
I have after passing done almost all of these here and there and I have to say you are bloody brilliant for doing this!
Such a clear explanation makes me feel like I’m actualy driving 😂 in my mind
These are some of the best manual driving videos on TH-cam! Subbed:)
***** You should also make videos on how to drive a manual car for performance driving! Like heel toe techniques, etc.
Or even some twisty open roads!:)
You're a very good teacher. Thanks for this...
Minalover100 great video very helpful thanks 2 tums up
This video was better than any American video I watched on TH-cam. Very clear and straight to the point..thank you!
Best tutorial, I've seen a lot of tutorials on how to drive manual cars, most just teach about going from nuetral to first, and most never mention going down in gears.
His voice is so calming
Really good that ''Incorrect Gear'' use is shown...the horrid juddering that happens. 👍
I remember asking my Instructor ''what IS that??''...I learned in a very hilly City. {do we ever really stop leaning, though??}
No we never stop learning.
Thanks, now I understand a lot better how the damn gears actually work, took me long enough xD
Coming from someone who is just starting to learn to drive, this was really helpful as i have been a bit confused with gear changing and how and when it should work
Hi! Have a look through our channel as hopefully you'll find some more useful videos 🙂
Started driving two days ago. This video is so so helpful as I'm still an unskilled driver. I'm in South Africa
3:45 I'd like to state that you could alternatively tap the throttle slightly as you've got the clutch pedal depressed to match the revs to the gear before letting out on the clutch. This would bring the engine and wheels into rotational harmony through the gearbox's ratio and cause no undue wear/tear/stress/discomfort.
mat ch rev is not a beginner's tecchnique. it often messes them up instead of helping them.
Speaking a different language
Alll your videos are good. I have come to know a lot about driving through these videos.
Hi! Appreciate you watching our videos :)
That voice, though...
I feel at peace with the universe now.
I wish you were my driving instructor very calm and with your voice is clear thanks for posting God bless you
your voice is so soothing, making the videos easier to watch and easier to learn
Hi! Glad it helped a little. Good luck with it and thanks for watching :)
Your videos are really all very helpful. Thank you for sharing!
Hi! Thanks for watching :)
You sound like that guy from "how do they do it" on discovery channel! Great vid btw
You actually don’t understand how helpful I found this. Thank you for this video and explanation
Appreciate you watching :)
I am no longer intimidated by the manual transmissions as I am now aware on when to change gears. thank you very much
Honestly, changing gears is the most daunting thing for me. I don't know if I'll ever get it.
It is scary at first, but trust me mate it gets so much easier and fun after a bit of practice.
Mr Rogers of driving. Much better than ya dad yelling at you.
I don't speak from experience, since... Well...
I enjoyed this video
awesome video, no other video has been able to explain manual driving like this one
Hi! Thanks for your nice comment and appreciate you watching :)
Dude you answered ALL my questions with just 1 video. I love you.
wtf is this? why isnt there more of this on TH-cam? 😱😱😱 such a piece of art👌
These low RPM's might be true for a Diesel, but a petrol car can't handle these low RPM's.
+Danishbushcrafter Hi!
This is a diesel car but as explained in the video, every car is different :)
They certainly can handle a 2 - 2.5k shift you spastic. A petrol engine is still designed that way.
@@Gradedrdazzle Was the spastic remark really necessary?
Swear to God, No instructor Ive had ever told me I could skip gears. Cheers mate.
2:34 - Mind the bloody pedestrians!
- Mrs. Bucket, probably
I saw this video when I was learning to drive at 22 years old now after a year I’ve driven like 4000km and now everything happens automatically muscle memory or something else but it’s great.
Sure I’ve had screeched the car a bit but I believe it’s the part of the learning process.
Welcome back after a year :)
❤Best video on driving a manual i've seen so far🎉
Very nice video, thank u so much for teaching us, how to use gear properly god bless u bro
Hi! No problem, thanks for watching :)
This guy probably has minus points on his licence..
Why?
2:35
@@olahdanihair In the UK you dont have to stop for pedestrians unless it is a crossing with markings such as a zebra crossing or traffic light crossing. Because they hadnt gone on the road this was perfectly legal
JacketsAreWarm My bad then
@@olahdanihair its fine, learn somthing new every day :)
Great stuff mate.
Hi! Thanks for watching our videos :)
Did anyone else find this really enjoyable to watch or just me?
One of the best vids out here explaining manual
Wow, thanks!
Change gears at the redline
I want him to be my Instructor🤗
this is one of the best videos on manual driving I have ever seen👌
Thank you so much, I know how to drive a manual, but had never done it in a car, only bike, so now I'm going to do a car.
