I mean the same could be said for Superman. He only came there to warn Bruce about what Lex had done. Like he said if he wanted it he'd be dead already. He knew where Bruce was and could have killed him without hesitating. Even in the fight he showed restraint.

This quote was taken almost verbatim straight from The Dark Knight Returns comic, and I think that's amazing. The whole sequence, from the sonic attack at the start of the fight to the design of this batsuit, is a stunning homage to TDKR.
I really like these and all the other TDKR references in this movie, such as the "I believe you" quote when Bruce saves Martha and the young cop seeing the Bat for the first time at the start of the movie and shooting him. Nice to see Snyder drew inspiration from aguably the best Batman comic

For those who did not understand the martha scene, basically, this batman lost his morals and has gone a little crazy because of his lengthy war against gotham criminals. The word martha, snapped him back to reality and made him remember why he really became batman (and also his morals)

I still contend that Bruce's characterization may have been badly altered by the secret changes made to suicide squad. One of the defining elements of batman is that he does not kill, which does not make a whole lot of sense unless he believes that people can be saved with the right treatment, hence all the talk about being a symbol in the dark knight trilogy.
The antithesis of this is to take a perfectly fine person raised with the best breeding and to turn them into a monster. It is implied by the tattoos and the unusually youthful presentation of 'damaged joker' (the joker usually looks older than the batman) that he is actually robin, brainwashed into thinking he's the joker. Having robin be transformed so quickly, so badly, kind of shows the futility or sisyphean nature of this aspect of the batman. It's possible that in the shock of this, batman forgot that he even ever had another purpose.
Before he chose to 'become a symbol', his goal was to defend the innocent. Having forgotten this, he feels like a criminal, just beating up thugs without any hope of improving anything. He feels ashamed of what he was, and then he sees the superman, who is everything he thought he was before but even worse since he is super powered. What happens to a super man with a super ego when he super falls like Bruce did? Will he have a super hatred and super anger? Why not, given that he is nearly invincible and an alien?
This is why bruce hates the superman. All he can see is his own flaws reflected in superman, but even worse since superman is super powerful and nearly unkillable. The danger of a fallen superman causes Bruce to become obsessed, enough to notice that the particles generated by the world engine can actually weaken him. He is so obsessed with the notion of stopping the superman that he forgets to do his usual background investigation. Of course, he has also lost hope that being the batman is meaningful. This is why the Martha line hits him so hard, it's a reminder that the batman hasn't just failed at being a symbol to others, he's forgotten how to actually be the batman. Having lois tell the batman a thing that should have been obvious to him with his usual detective work (that the superman obviously must have had a human life to match his human features) reminds him of what he used to be and what his original mission was. It's a reminder of an earlier version of himself whose primary mission was to protect the innocent, symbols be damned.
But, without it being obvious that damaged joker is actually robin, why does batman see himself as a criminal? Why does he give criminals a brand on the face, with no hope of changing from their path? Why is he fallen? The movie gives no explanation other than robin apparently being dead, but batman always knew that his and robins lives were at risk. That changes nothing from their mission. The only reason for a man to become depressed is if he feels useless, or the meaning of his life is ripped away. Robins death would not have caused this, at least not as much as seeing all the work he put into robin go so bad so quickly. The ultimate joke is not to kill robin, it's to show the futility of batman and robins path.
Without this essential bit, the characterization of batman in this film feels as odd as Clarks characterization in man of steel. That movie would have benefitted from a reminder to audiences that this movie universe is an elseworld. With that in mind, everything else falls into place. This is a world where being a Kansas farmer wasn't as rewarding as it was for the kents in the comics. This is a world where the harsh reality of survival necessitates a harsher and more cynical stance. This is an elseworld tainted by anti life from darkseid. Without mentioning in the title that man of steel is an elseworld (you can leave the darkseid part out, audiences can figure that out on their own), audiences were shocked by the presentation of Clark and pa Kent. Without it being more obvious that damaged joker is robin, or that the batman feels that he has utterly failed in his mission, audiences are shocked by the darker batman and mystified that he has failed to do any investigation beyond how to stop the superman.

Batman's track for this film was mostly composed by Junkie XL. Supes' theme was as usual composed by Hans Zimmer. They collabed on this track (Black and Blue I think it's called) to create just that effect. It's wonderful.

This fight scene is so great. It demonstrates the dynamic duality between both halves of the idealistically, ultimate man. One, blessed with godlike powers to practically do anythin and the other, worked hard to become the pinnacle of human potential. Sun and Moon. Light and Dark. Man and God.
Well imo I like it up until middle then it's bad and one sided but I actually wanted Superman to win it's makes more sense imo I look at Superman vs batman as man vs God but realistically Superman stomps batman wit no diff but I kinda look at iron man vs Thor as more man vs God I kinda would have wanted a rated r Thor vs iron man movie imo

This scene is really a homage to old Batman cartoons under Bruce Tim era. No flashy sequences, just Batman in dark being an absolute menace with his raw skill and intelligence to take on superhuman enemies.

And if we’re conceding taking away what makes them special in the first place, i.e their powers then we would also need to take away what makes those others special, i.e. the money that allowed for Batman/Ironman to build and train the way they did. I didnt know if i would like the new batman, i was secptic as ive grown up with batman and i really liked the triology. But dmn the hate batman had for superman was well explained, and their fight was epic. Really Lex was superlame. Dont pick such a weak puny boy to fight 2 giants made from muscle. and idk i dont like that guy who played him anyway.
Then everything after the fight was weak, just there to set up the universe, which wasnt even done well.. that part was horrible. But i loved the new gun slinging batman. he was great. I was very disapointed afflick wanted out :( wanted to see so much more.

I love how the Kryptonite gradually wears off and it's unclear how much Superman's powers have recovered. When Batman punches into Superman's steel face he's visibly worried because he's like "shit did I lose my opening?". Superman thinks he's pretty much fully recovered but his bullet like speed isn't quite there and he isn't able to stop the 2nd Kryptonite grenade. After that it was game over for Clark.
Really appreciated the pacing and story telling of this fight
If Batman didn't get that second grenade off, that punch that took off half his faceplate would've been GG for him.

There are hundreds of ways this could have been more dynamic but im still pretty happy with what we got
You gotta hand it to Superman. He accepted the consequences of his actions even if it meant losing his life in his scene. He always hung on to Lois and Martha which kept him grounded despite his near-indestructible power. Bruce always used family and love as an excuse to do this-act out violently so he could feel powerful and in control. And I love that Clark cuts right to the core of what's messing with Batman here: the wound left by the loss of his mother. He is particularly affected by that loss.
Even without his powers, superman is still a 6 feet muscular guy probably more than 180lbs.
Batman swinging him a full circle and throwing him away shows the RAW power of Batman.
The real Batman we all deserve...

I get that they aren't trying to copy Iron Man and make Batman's new suit (at the time) really cool looking and unique but that part is impractical. *Still badass looking though*
