Disney has completely forgotten about families. My wife and I don’t even bother taking our three kids to their films. They are quite content to sit at home and we will thrown in a vhs animated film from decades ago and my girls love it. Along with the added bonus of us not having to explain adult topics to them.

I don't even think that it's parents not being tolerant of LGBT groups, I think it's just the way their stories are being portrayed. There have been immensely, broadly popular LGBT characters for decades. Think Will & Grace, or Cam and Mitch from Modern Family, or (my personal favorite character ever) Captain Holt from Brooklyn 99! The issue is that LGBT characters used to be portrayed as just normal people with normal life experiences who just happened to be gay or lesbian. But in the last 5-10 years LGBT characters have been almost universally portrayed as victims who heroically overcome society's oppression. The connotation of that portrayal is that non-LGBT people are the ones constantly oppressing them, which is just very insulting to non-LGBT people who, as this video points out, happen to make up 93% of the population! So it's not the presence of LGBT characters that is the problem, it's the very confrontational way in which they are portrayed these days.

Disney has imploded on themselves. You may have a point about Pixar hanging by a thread with "Elemental " and how it's likely gonna severe it😅 Parents are either not going to take their kids to their movies, or if they are, they will have to read their plots to find out what is in them to confirm whether it's safe for their children to view.

The people who didn't like Turning Red tended to be conservatives who were pissed that the movie was geared toward girls dealing with puberty. That's not unsafe. It's something literally all kids deal with, and this one just happened to be an allegory for periods, which is something that half of all CHILDREN will deal with.
Why should all movies be geared toward the delicate anti-female sensibilities of conservative Christians?

    • @faharichesimet4344
      @faharichesimet4344 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@Noelle Takes the Sky Alright, it's true that we all went through puberty, but it's not really a topic that most parents want to discuss with their prebuscent kids. I know that not all movies are geared towards conservative families, but like it or not, the truth of the matter is many large families have conservative values. Pixar started off with wholesome films like Toy story, A bug's Life, Monsters Inc , Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, and Cars. I saw turning red, it didn't bother me, but puberty is a separate topic left to parents teach to their kids, or even school teachers. Pixar should just stick to creating wholesome films that everyone of all ages can enjoy, because that is what they were known for. Since Pixar started infusing their animated features with mature themes, it really turned parents off, and it's really hurting Pixar in the box office and in streaming, people what to be entertained and be provided with escapism in a theater, not be educated. Turning Red can relate to teenagers, but if Pixar what's to make films for ages 13+ they should rate rate their films that way so people can be aware of that.

Well, it can bounce back if they have the the humility to see what's not working and how to fix things. For instance, Walt Disney was accused of selling out when Walt Disney Productions started doing live action as well animation but it was necessary because a lot of them were cheaper than expensive animation and could help finance something like Sleeping Beauty. I also liked Disney under Michael Eisner for a time. Disney distributed great adult films under Touchstone and Hollywood Pictures like Good Morning Vietnam, Dead Poets Society, The Rock, Crimson Tide, Ransom and Con Air. Then you got some surprise gems like Natty Gann, Honey I Shrunk the Kids and Flight of the Navigator. I also enjoyed The Rocketeer, Dick Tracy and Who Framed Roger Rabbit. The thing is, The Bob Iger Company (I don't want to drag Disney's name in the mud) thought they were too big to fail. They don't care about the market because they think they ARE the market and THEY think they know what's best. And unless the shareholders stage an uprising (that shareholder conference was legit the most entertaining thing to come out of them in years, thank you VR and WDW Pro) they aren't going to reverse course anytime soon. They'd rather spend billions to fight Desantis over something they have no hope of winning (Legal Mindset will explain that better) than putting it towards their theme parks and staff. Meanwhile studios that actually care about a profit are going to eat Iger's lunch until his tenure is up. Mario might be the biggest movie of the year, meanwhile Iger has waning audiences. The theme parks really are the only thing they have going for them but once Universal gets their expansions up, only time will tell... and I think time is telling us to ride the Donkey Kong Kart ride so I'll be looking forward to that.

as somebody who's bi, I think that people tend to forget that life goals come in play as to who you end up with, anybody who is bi and has set their life on having children is genrally not going to actively date people of the same sex long term; Not to mention that the LGBTQ+ comunity has so much in fighting, that the Bs are often under some form of attack, and the LGB part already has a sizable group of people who've detracted from the wider community; our sexuality often is just our sexuality, we generally don't care to look at stuff because "hey, look! it's us!" ~ We just want stuff that's fun and enjoyable, like literally everybody else.
I don't mind stuff like gay kisses, etc; add them, for all I care, love is love, etc; but, is it jut a kiss, or, am do I just avoid it because I don't wanna have to explain something I really don't wanna have to explain? not to mention that the entire thing often just feels like a huge marketing ploy to "own the christians" which always ends up backfiring because it's literally 99% of the time a meaningless 3 seconds at best shoehorned in in a manner that they can cut it out ready for the chinese market, who knew that taking shots in the general direction of ~50% of your audience base is not a good idea...
The commentry over family is also a fun one, you look at stuff like star wars, my first memory of the movie was in the living room as a young kiddo late at night, wrapped up on the chair gawking in amazement; is there really any movies these days in which you *really* wanna let your kids experience like that? Disney has took over property in which you could do that with; and generally no longer targets their marketing towards those people; all I knew about many of their recent shows is that "oh, hey, LGTQ+ character!!", there is an obvious lack of things which really hook you in and makes you buy a ticket before its even out

We shouldn't always have to pander to the delicate sensibilities of Christians. Disney has been a sinking ship for ages, but because they kept stapling huge new pieces onto themselves it was hard to see. For example: Iger admitted in his memoir that Kathleen Kennedy said she wanted to set up Galaxy's Edge to focus on 'the new stories' and not on legacy characters. But look at the entire package: we had Rogue One, the nostalgia bait sequels, a nostalgia prequel, and two legacy character movies that turned into series (Obi and Boba). Someone needed to stand up and say this was stupid. They needed to put Luke, Leia, Han and Chewie together and work towards the hand-off, they needed to let people come to Mos Eisley instead of Battu, and so on.
Marvel and Pixar are in the same boat. Pixar assumes their legacy is enough to sell tickets that feel like a different studio made them, and Marvel continues the trend of unfinished stories and post-credit teases. Sure, this stuff worked in comic books, but those things weren't 200-250 million dollar tentpoles. Hell, you want to really see how badly Disney is screwing up? The Marvel Legends figures for Ant-Man 3 aren't due out until August. AUGUST. Most of the figures for D+ came out six months to a year after their related show finished. That means they aren't even maximizing the potential return from merchandise. They're starting to get them aligned now (Guardians 3's figures came out in time, even if they made some dumb decisions with the line) but the damage is done.
As a comparison point: they didn't make an individual figure line for Strange World, just an assortment box and a vehicle with main character combination. Google 'Disney Atlantis Figures' to see what they could have done, if they had any faith in the film. Or look at the memes around The Little Mermaid clips that came out. The CGI for Ariel is actually worse than the second Matrix was. Watch her body change shape, or the position of her clothing, or the way her face sits. Apparently the biggest thing under the sea is the uncanny valley.

I think Disney is doing the "appeal to LGBT" route not because it's meant for a broader audience, but because it's more appealing to investors and is more marketable. Investors aren't the smartest cookies in the shed, and use buzzwords almost as often as CEOs do, and "diversity" is definitely a popular buzzword in the space. It's unfortuantely how a lot of companies work (in the same way "crypto" and "ai" are buzzwords that can get your startup 20m seed funding with no product or team :P), and once the buzzwords shift is when the product will shift. Nothing we can do about it.

Honestly, from my understanding, this isn't their first rodeo. there's a reason Disney had the renaissance. it because they had a dark age. and then after the renaissance, they had the direct to DVD sequels. which I personally see this remake thrend, is it's baby sibling. Because of how similar they are. MINUS the attacking of paying customers part. (that is new)
Then we got the MCU, Frozen and such. Before the remake started their drop again.
So I think Disney is just in their newest low point. and in the future... pretty FAR future for how stubborn they are. They'll get their shit back together and make great stuff again. Would be nice if that jump start is WISH. But I'm not getting my hopes TOO high.

    • @CoryTheRaven
      @CoryTheRaven ปีที่แล้ว

I love the optimism but let me tell you what's wrong with it! There has been a MAJOR cultural shift at Disney with Iger's tenure. The biggest fault of the "Dark Age" is that Card Walker and Ron Miller were too close to Walt and just kept trying to do what Walt did without half the talent or a clear creative vision of their own. Roy Disney brought in Michael Eisner as a fresh outside person with a strong creative vision, and we got the Disney Renaissance, Disney Afternoon, etc. Unfortunately Eisner went off the rails, as anyone does when their power outlasts their creativity, and he was intentionally replaced by Bob Iger, who doesn't have a single creative bone in his body. He only sees Disney in terms of brands and IP to leverage. Hence his buying up IP like a high-end Classic Media. And this has been going on now for close to 20 years. When Chapek couldn't hack it, their solution was to bring back the guy who created all the problems. There's nobody steering the ship at this point, regardless of who they can find to be captain.

When a franchise gets too big for their britches (that's trousers for ppl not in the US) they eventually get to a point where there's nowhere to go but down. Either by mistakes, lack of future planning, stupid people running it, an unlisted 4th thing or a combination of them; but eventually they all get there and unless they fix it, it's a spiral down all the way until it dies.
If it's a lesser-known franchise, they usually get sold off either as a collection or in parts to different companies and either eventually forgotten or revived from the ashes by the new owners. The rare occasions will be for the worst case: a big company parasyte like EA Games will buy it and feed off it's IP to survive itself. Best case is the team who worked there left and formed their own company to continue the magic they still have.
*TLDR Here* : But since this is Disney it's more likely it'll go bankrupt and quietly the new owners will take over and revive the company or they boot out everyone in charge and swap them to try and fix it. Disney is just too big of a nostalgia to just end up dying. Even during Covid they nearly went bankrupt and they're still here. I doubt Disney will disappear, but a new Era is upon us.

The real problem is nobody is even looking at the real terminal cancer. The movies and entertainment division can burn and bleed. It doesn’t matter. They are a high risk, occasionally high reward small piece of the business. All of the profits from all of the Marvel Movies over the past 10-15 years = 3-6 months profit from Parks and Resorts. And the crown jewel. The absolute money printing machine, is Walt Disney World in Orlando. And through folly, ego, pure unhinged stupidity and arrogance, Iger has likely killed but. By waging an ill advised war with the State of Florida. And every action Iger takes increases Disney’s losses. Increases their legal risk and financial exposure. In just 30 days Iger took Chapek’s ham fisted mistake in Florida, and dialed it up several orders of magnitude. They lost Reedy Creek. They needed to ask for a new district under the new rules and move on. Not attempt shady back room deals. Not let slip even the illusion that Disney and Reedy Zcreek were separate, thus bringing on investigations into criminality and potential Bond Fraud. Teeing them up for Billions of dollars. Best case they just owe back taxes interest and penalties on the bonds. Worst case the bonds get cancelled and Disney has to pay them back. Iger and Disney somehow missed that by attempting to tie this all up in courts for years, all land use, planning, permitting, inspections and permissions will be tied up for years. Reedy Creek is gone. There is no status quo to return to. They can’t build a new toilet until this gets resolved. While Universal is plowing ahead with more and more newer bigger better stuff.

@@gregowen2022 I honestly wonder if the world ever needed IP law. Look at China. Economically they're a powerhouse (discounting the many issues with top-down governance). And they don't give a hoot about anyone's IP but their own. And let's be honest if an American wanted to steal Chinese IP, would anyone stop them?
There's a situation where it's as though IP doesn't exist at all, and yet China's making bank.
Just a thought: in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't matter who comes up with an idea. It matters who can leverage it. Established businesses have their own ideas, and are often clunky enough that they can't immediately 'steal' the ideas of others in productive ways anyways. Except by subverting IP law itself...
Honestly it really strikes me as legal nonsense. Ownership of an idea just restricts people from developing and expanding upon it. Maybe not as much in the case of patents, but surely in copyright. Maybe the best Spider-man story out there comes from a homeless man in Sweden. If he has the means to tell the story, the world deserves it, whether Marvel wants it or not.

To add about Disney Parks: Star Wars Star Cruiser Hotel is, imo, the least of their problem. Just scratching the surface.
After diving into Theme Parks community & TH-cam, there is a some sentiment continuously rising:
More people are slowly considering Universal Orlando over Disney World. Universal is coming for them even in their Parks division.
    In a Disney vacation:
    • You pay more
    • Get nickel-and-dimed more
    • Have to glue to your phone all day looking Ride reservations & Food mobile order
    • Keep the phone charged
    • Staff are less accommodating than before
    • Worse theming in newer rides, which also use a blander screen-based tech instead of physical sets
All while Universal parks are (currently) cheaper for similar or better quality & experience, and no requirement to use mobile phone all day or rigid schedule. They also seem to listen to feedback, like how they're no longer addicted to bad screen-based rides after poor reception.
And the new big Epic Universe Park & the new rail link opening could accelerate Universal's process of gaining market share from Disney.
So this Disney's cash cow may not even be safe long term, especially since they can't fix their park in a short timeframe (unless they're going for generic funfair vibe)
Of course, with younger kids not being brought to view Disney films (that aren't of that Walt Disney quality) and not being brought to visit their Parks right now, can also impact their Park attendance long into the future.
Disney World is kind of a nostalgic, magical visit, and a familial milestone - and Disney seems to be destroying that too; putting their park off of that pedestal.

I was there in 2019 to visit potterworld around Halloween and we popped over to Disney for the not-so-scary Halloween thing. I still feel like Disney is a better experience, but goodness that one night was crazy expensive.

The disney brand has been damaged so much that even the latest GOTG3 which has great reviews looks likely to lose money.
The customer is sick of political messaging and been sold too many duds to keep coming back.
It's like a bad restaurant people aren't coming back to their regular haunt after receiving bad food or service once let alone multiple bad meals (movies) will take years to rebuild customer trust.

Greg, got an idea for you, after seeing how Disney's once family friendly values have collapsed: how about a little bit of exploration of Christian themes in LOTR. Tolkien was a devout Catholic, and I dont believe it is a coincidence that the date of the Feast of the anunciation of Mary happens to be the date on which Tolkien had Frodo finally destroy the One Ring.
Anyway, the values of LOTR : fellowship, friendship, loyalty, courage in the face of a hopeless situation all mirror biblical virtues.
I also suspect our more open minded Muslim and Jewish brothers and sisters can identify with these virtues as well, from their own history and holy texts.

Disneyland is no longer “top notch.” The park is run down and dirty with many rides in disrepair. There seems to be a lack of pride in the employees and the “magic” is definitely gone. My trip in December was the last time I’ll ever go to that place.
