I grew up near Stockers Farm in Rickmansworth and as a kid that would make it even more special when i watched Black Beauty as i could literally see the fields, shown here and in the show, from my bedroom window. What i would give to be back in those days without a care in the world.
In 500 years from now, there will still be people humming this tune. Thank you Denis King for this amazing and memorable track that will remain timeless. Even my 15 year old daughter knows this music and it’s February 2020.
You know, I was 8 when this was made in 1972 and even at that age I knew this was special. I was never a great fan of the programme, but I used to watch it just for these magical titles. The music, and that horse galloping through the water, used to make the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. Absolutely wonderful. If the 60s were the golden age of music, then the 70s were the golden age of kids tv.
Wow. That sure brings memories back... I remember the times when I was much, much younger ^^ and simply couldn't get enough of this horse and its adventures. A long time is gone since then but still, it's nice to meet Black Beauty again. Especially with the theme that could rise goosebumps and send you dreaming at the same moment. Thank you for uploading it!!!
So true. I could see the fields at Stockers Farm, used in the show, from my bedroom window. I didn't have a care in the world. What i would give to be back at that age, at that time with what i know now. Nostalgia big time.
Thankyou so very much for posting this...One of the greatest stories ever told by Anna Sewel who had quite a hard life. And yet can write one of the best ever stories "Black Beauty" and that theme music is pure perfection !!! I can listen to that time and time again and see the beautiful Black Beauty galloping across the fields...Happy Days :)
This is one of the most beautiful music I’ve ever played from my childhood with amazing video of a beautiful horse looking so free to just run how wonderful. Xx💕💕🤗🤗xx
I love this, my love of horses started from this and Follyfoot. Wonderful years of growing up against the backdrop of the seventies. Music is stunning.
ohhh the memories Im 10 years old again and its 1975,,Im sitting cross legged on the living room floor ..its Sunday tea time and Im watching Black Beauty ..it was the highlight of my week awwww happy days..thanks for posting xx
I absolutely Love this theme music!!!! I have been looking for this for a long time. Forgot that it was Black Beauty not Black Stallion. I remember watching this when I was 9 or so. Lovely memories from way back then in N. Ireland. Came to Canada when I was almost 11. Brings tears to my eyes everytime I hear it!!!!
In the 70's the children's/family TV series had cracking themes, adventure and made you feel good No swearing, no laugh tracks, no health and safety and no insulting the audience.
I loved Black Beauty. When I got 21 I FINALLY saw my dream come true and bought my first horse. I remember the first time I dare to go faster. The theme of BB went through my head. Black Beauty is gone and sadly so is my first horse. But this music always reminds of her. I had several other horses after her, but never one as friendly and loyal as she was.
Oh, wow! I am in my late 40's and this theme track to the ‘Black Beauty’ episodes is embedded into my childhood psyche. I always loved this piece of music as a kid, and I also loved the theme song, (Called 'The Lightning Tree') - I think, to a similar drama around the same time, which was called, 'Follyfoot'. Anyone remember 'Follyfoot'? Anyway, thanks for the upload :>)
Great theme music and Yes, it does bring back happy memories of a young childhood, and am now 50. By the way the black horse was used in that great bank advent all those years ago. Of course those older enough to remember it. Thank You for posting it
Always loved this programme because i adored horses, sadly my mum died when I was thirteen; I think this series was out in 1971 around the same time. Let me know if I am wrong. But even now at age 53 this tune makes me want to cry.................Its a haunting tune for me but still beautiful in so many ways times of innocence and wondering. Kids dont know the meaning of that now sadly. Thanks for putting this video on. Its scary realising that Stacy Dorning is around my age now!! (
I knew someone who was on the crew of this series. I recall him saying it was always manic. Horses running off because they were scared of the noises being made to keep them galloping for the camera shots (hidden crew bashing pots and pans with hammers and sticks to make the horses continue running, as you can tell with twitching ears on the galloping opening shots). There were also a few horses used in the filming of BB, each with a painted identical forehead star, I’m sorry to say. But the main one was the star of the show. Also a painted on star. Distant horse shots were the other horses. Filmed at Stockers Farm in Rickmansworth. All of the horses were well looked after though.
ITV would never make anything like this again. Black Beauty, Timeslip, The Flaxton Boys, Follyfoot.... Quality children's programmes with cutting edge current affairs like World in Action. Days sadly gone as all ITV is now is soaps and reality tv shows.
@@bighands69 I agree, too many channels to keep up with it all where as back then there was just three channels and much easier to choose, sadly we won't get TV like this ever again.
@@thecelticdruid.6681 The vast majority of people do probably watch the main channels and then dip into the others. But it is sad what has happened. And this has caused the fracture of society as it has created too many loud voices.
Yer too right. I loved this tune and always watched Black Beauty. Im 44 now but we danced to van der valk in first school PE. We used to get asked which tune she would play on piano and it was always same answer lol
Yes - I was just two and in the pushchair when it first aired in 1972, so I saw the programme when older. Having a very good musical memory, this theme tune is in Bb major and played by a French Horn. I am an amateur string player in an orchestra and possess perfect pitch!

i remember watching this program up at my grans and granpa`s when i was a kid and it gave me something to do on a sunday afternoon.as they were not much to do.
Wonderful i was in love with that horse! Other tunes that take me back are White Horses, Robinson Crusoe, Secret Garden and Picturebox.......great days!
@TheEndTimeShofar888 Me too!! Life was sooo much simpler back then. We had a big backyard & I begged my parents for a pony; figured he could eat the grass! Still crying as I write this. Thanks for sharing & no, you didn't open up too much. :)
This music is by Lionel Bart, who also composed the music for the musical "Oliver!", as well as "Living Doll" sung by Cliff Richard and the theme to "From Russia With Love"., amongst many others.
Saxonwench1: That is such a driving theme song is appropriate for me as I sit here looking at this galloping horsie through the pasture...yes, it is uplifting darling and timely, especially this evening...thank you my Saxonwench1 !!!!
It says it was made in 1972. Follyfoot was also on back then. I’ve just finished the boxed set of Follyfoot. I’ll be getting this too. Telly was fantastic back then. From The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe starring Robert Hoffmann as Robinson Crusoe in 1968, and Tom Grattan’s War to this. You just need to hear as much as the first couple of bars of the theme and you’re transported back to happier times when mum and dad were only as far as the next room and homework was the worst of your worries. Oh for a time machine!
We've got an old video of Black Beauty programmes. Hearing this music brings back the memories from when I was 7, watching Black Beauty while off school sick.
Brings tears to my eyes...memories are made of this. looking at this now I can appreciate just how beautiful this horse was.
use to watch this all the time I use to cry watching it theme song never gets old
austinuk100 me too! When I was a small girl, and apparently still at 30 😂
Good to see the full version here.....listening in 2021.....still gives me goosebumps today!!

I cannot tire of listening to this glorious theme music, or watching my favorite horse Black Beauty,,,Amazing just amazing !
I wont tire of this, such stirring music and the beauty and grace of Black Beauty ! what a great horse ! thankyou Anna Sewell !

Yes, kids TV was the high watermark in the 70s, and I am six years younger than you (being 2 in 1972!)
As a little girl, I always wanted my own Black Beauty...and cried everytime the programme finished,,,Oh dear lol
this reminds me of sunday afternoon in the 70s
A great theme from my childhood, and musically I appreciate it so much more now I am middle aged. It's going into favourites.

One of the greatest TV themes of all time
Children today have nothing to remember their childhood like we did with feel good ,moral series like us from the seventies did.

yep I am 7 years old again watching this, I used to sit on my rocking horse for the whole show and cry it was so good.
There will never be another theme tune to beat. Amazing memories and my reason for my love of horses. Black Beauty ❤
Now that's what I call a theme tune.
I was 13 years old way back in 1972. A horse crazy kid. Would get my first one in 1976. Now 65 years old. Thanks for the memories.
Even thirty + years later, I still love this theme song. Eat your heart out John Williams!.
Fantastic old times
