Last summer, I was vacationing in NYC with my family. The day after we arrived, I discovered that Asterism would be doing a free show at a small venue a short subway ride from my Times Square hotel. I decided to see them instead of a Broadway show with my family. The crowd was disappointingly small but that also meant I was able to get right at the stage in front of Haruka (Hal-Ca). The mic set up for Haruka was surprising because it was the shortest I had ever seen on stage that wasn't meant for an acoustic guitar. Haruka proved to be a tiny girl with a massive talent. I saw Van Halen live in the late 70s and I was as mesmerized watching Haruka play as I was watching EVH so many years ago. I also recommend the fancam video of Asterism playing the song Dawn in a small club like the one I saw them. In fact the person that took the video was about as close as I was in NYC. Keep in mind that Haruka is only 16 in the video. She is younger than both Pau of The Warning and Fami of Lovebies, two other young phenom musicians. Here is the link to Dawn - th-cam.com/video/buQPvINJcA0/w-d-xo.html

This song is from a concept album called Guernica, about the civilian massacre in Basque, Spain, in 1937. Dictator Franco conspired with the Nazis and carpet bombed the village residents when they gathered in the village for church. Check out Faced, Burned, and Gunfire from this album. Also, official video for Rising Moon for face melting shredding rock. The guitarist is 15 in that one.
It's actually a concept album inspired by viewing Picasso's painting Guernica (and of course, Picasso's work was all about the Guernica massacre, so theirs too). Such maturity and culture from such young people from the other side of the world is both refreshing and amazing.
The live recording of "Dawn" is your logical next step, I´ve seen other commenters providing you the link. I´d also recommend listening to "Gunfire". Hal-Ca, guitar and Miyu, bass, were actually 18 and 19 when this was recorded, Mio, drums was 21. Most talented young musicians you´ll find anywhere.

You just heard ASTERISM’s ballad. Now watch ASTERISM playing DAWN live, back when Hal-Ca was 16 - th-cam.com/video/buQPvINJcA0/w-d-xo.html Bring a bucket of ice, because she will melt your face. 😮
Over the past three years they’ve become pretty much my favorite band. All three of them are phenomenally talented, but Hal-Ca is on another level guitar-wise.
he next song you need to hear from them is DAWN. I too... and an old Rock and Roll Relic who had given up on the music scene until Babymetal introduced me to the music scene in Japan, which is as full of great bands and music as our music scene was in the early 70s. That said, let me try and explain what makes HAL-CA special on guitar... beyond the technical brilliance. In our day, the guitar gods were Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Hendrix, Clapton, Ritchie Blackmore, etc.... all guys who played an emoting guitar. It was less about shredding and more about evoking emotion in the listener. Along comes Eddie Van Halen and it's a sea change in music. Gone is the emotive guitar, replaced by "shredding". Evoking emotion is removed from the equation. It all became about how many notes can be fit into a short period of time. HAL-CA is certainly a shredder but her guitar heroes are those old guys of our generation. The emotive guitar players. She is steeped in those songs and performs many of them, from Deep Purple to Sabbath to Rainbow to the Beatles. She can shred, but she is actually an emotive player, with her shredding contributing to the elicitation of emotion rather than replacing it. That's what makes her special.
Amazing band. Not sure that this is the most accessible of their songs though, kind of jazzy prog metal…Putting things further into perspective there is an amazing live performance of Rising Moon when Haruka was 15….
Some Japanese bands, old and new. You need to look at them live. She kicks butt on stage. This is the mellowest thing that I have seen them do. I have watched them for a few years. This really isn’t a very good representation of what they do when they rock. You will see this after watching any live stuff from the past 4-5 years. They are on another level.
I was watching this thinking that I respect like this guitarist. She's got a pretty cool style/technique. Then she went and completely changed. Then did it again, and again. That young lady is EXTREMELY talented. As she matures, she's only going to get better. I don't even know her name yet, but I'm betting thaf 10 years from now, people all over the world are going to know her name.
This is probably the most mellow song they do. I recommend their songs Dawn and Rising Moon for a faster-paced experience. They have a few songs with vocals but I much prefer to hear them sing with their instruments.
@@RussInCanada sorry, but no, they actually stated they want to play "mass metal", being a kind of metal to appeal to the masses. But this statement was more recent as the brilliant Guernica+a album where "Church" is from, they said this when they released the Aside and Beside EPs. Which, as we know, are quite different to the one before.
I know what you mean. They are very technique oriented, very much. As instrumental performances, Quadratum of Unlucky Morpheus is more total music. th-cam.com/video/XC2A1hbuLmI/w-d-xo.html It's a cover song though.
Well how about hearing them when they were still in high school (had homework to do after the set they played)!!!! Hal-Ca was 16 and Miyu was 17 at the time (he was playing his custom made 7 string bass from ESP, yes custom made for a 17 y.o. !!!!) . The song is Dawn and is in a small club and done with a fancam but it is still excellent as you see their work on the strings and fret board. I agree with you, this is an interesting performance, but shows less restraint than I like. I prefer it when the notes have space to breathe. And this is probably the most restrained song from Asterism. I do like the bassist tho. The drummer has jazz like chops, but can't shine much here.
Congratulations on finding the best new power trio since (in my opinion) Cream. They are from Fukuoka, Japan, and consist of: Haruka Noma, guitars (“HAL-CA”) (23 November, 2002) Miyu Yoshinaka, bass (12 March, 2002) Mio Yoshinaka, drums (13 November, 1999) They started as an all-instrumental band, and have recently begun adding vocals. They were formed in 2014 when Noma was 11 and the brothers were 12 and 14 respectively. They were all playing at a talent fair for young musicians in their hometown, when one of the music scouts noticed them, had a hunch and suggested they play together. The result was, to say the least, explosive. Most of their current youtube catalogue is fan-made live video footage, much of it at the Hard Rock Café in Fukuoka. There are also several clips from their tours of the U.S., including stops in Austin, Los Angeles and New York. From the start, they have written most of their own music, covering a wide range of styles. The brothers bring a lot of jazz and funk ideas into their playing. Miyu plays 4,5 and 7-string basses, which are co-lead instruments in his hands. They are all phenomenal talents, but the big draw has been Noma, known by her first name Haruka or by her stage name Hal-Ca. She has been likened to a reincarnation of Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan, with bits of Joe Satriani, Nuno Bettencourt and Akira Takasaki, among others, thrown in. Even in the Japanese scene, with its overload of extraordinarily technical instrumentalists, she stands out. She also writes most of the band’s music. Asterism is amazing! Here are my suggestions for japanese bands: Nemophila, Mary's Blood, Babymetal, Bridear, and some newer groups like Lonesome Blue, PaleNeØ, and East of Eden. Additionally, don't miss out the great South Korean band Rolling Quartz.
This is the best version of this song - it's a Rock masterpiece. They didn't use vocals for the first few years but they started singing a couple of years ago - which attracted a younger audience - and they sound excellent, though their instrumental skills are what I love most.
Yes, she was 18. Just has her 21st birthday in November 2023. It’s also called Math Metal, not mass, i believe. “Dawn” is good, also “Rising Moon” and “Unravel” which is a cover of an Anime theme, but very good.
Re “Unravel” the red outfit/white background studio version. She plays 2 guitars. On the dark one she covers original vocals and lead and on the white guitar rhythm. They are moving into adding vocals with their most recent offerings.
She is so close to being my hands down favorite guitar player of this era... but she needs to resist the trem bar. She falls back on it way too much in many of her songs.
@RockandRollRelic look man I'd love to hang out with you all day but I have 10 others reactors that I have to comment "Who cares" on their videos. My important work is never done! OK on to more douchebagery!

these are the quintessential Asterism songs (there's more; but that's enough to give you a good picture).
Church is deffo the most mellow of their work ; but, as already mentioned, it's part of a concept album, and really needs to be heard in situ to be fully appreciated. though, i'm a bit disappointed that this didn't do _anything_ for you -- this is actually one of my favorite pieces. oh well, different strokes and all that 🤷♂
also, maybe a collab they did with swedish singer PelleK on a song called _Ichizu_ . sounds like Jazz metal fusion to me. But what do I know. They are fabulous
My God it's Saki #2😮😊
I agree with you, this is an interesting performance, but shows less restraint than I like. I prefer it when the notes have space to breathe. And this is probably the most restrained song from Asterism. I do like the bassist tho. The drummer has jazz like chops, but can't shine much here.
Congratulations on finding the best new power trio since (in my opinion) Cream. They are from Fukuoka, Japan, and consist of:
Haruka Noma, guitars (“HAL-CA”) (23 November, 2002)
Miyu Yoshinaka, bass (12 March, 2002)
Mio Yoshinaka, drums (13 November, 1999)
They started as an all-instrumental band, and have recently begun adding vocals.

Not baby metal something fake about them. But Hanabie, trident good substitutions. But to each his own
韓国のバンドは音楽よりも整形手術や肌の露出に熱心で音楽はコピーペーストだから退屈です。
Dolls boxx, Take my chance. Live or music video, your mind will be blown. It's Japanese all female band.
Welp, looks like you're going to have to check out Dawn
So interesting
She is so close to being my hands down favorite guitar player of this era... but she needs to resist the trem bar. She falls back on it way too much in many of her songs.
Add a second guitarist and a singer and they will be even better than what is already an incredibly talented band.
It's math metal not mass metal
Nobody cares.
Why so negative? Just exploring...
@RockandRollRelic look man I'd love to hang out with you all day but I have 10 others reactors that I have to comment "Who cares" on their videos. My important work is never done! OK on to more douchebagery!
