Hi Janie. Already been in Touch. Love the Hull, and Dufour Changing Direction towards Cruising for Sailboats, and have been thinking hard about this below Deck Layout, which frankly I knew there was something not Right about the Hexagon Table Layout and that Linear Galley , then it hit me, what is missing is the Port and Starboard Setee Berths with Lee Cloths for comfortable Sleeping on passage, Double Berth one side, single the other ? which with the Forward Galley, can easily be fitted in The seperate Shower with sit down is Brilliant for forward, and same forcthe one adt of the Saloon. A good selling point for the pair of seperate Heads, for anyone heading to the Tropics, for essential Gyginecthere, encourage them not to Ditch the Douche style Shower Heads, because as a Wet Head, they also work as excellent Bidet's as well- no need to mess up your holding tanks with Toilet paper ! In that light, also comes the need for a small Washer Drier, for the Towels needed in the Heads as a Result. A much better Cruising Result all around, so a suitable below deck redesign is in order, and thankfully the 44 has easily enough space. Best Wishes. Bob in Wales. 🤔🌟🌟🌟👍

PPS. For a Cruising Sailboat -Definitely no wood on Deck, Faux Teakmor whatever ok, but Best for the Tropics is Brilliany White Foot and Knee Friendly Non Slip, if I remember right from a Company in either North or South Caronina in the USA. Below Decks, for Cruising needs a Serious Rethink and Redesign and perhaps ideally for Crusing and to keep some really good Stuff, like two Seperate Sit Down Showers and two heads is going to take a Two Cabin Version, Squeeze the Forward Berth slightly for a Pullman Bed at an angle, which can push the Forward Galley a bit more Forward, and because of the Single Aft Cabin, the Saloon can also now easily accommodate a Double Setee Berth one side, and a Single Setee Berth on the other, both with Lee Cloths for very Comfortable and desperately needed passage making Berths for those off Watch - Lee Cloths on the Now Pullman Double make that usable for Cruising, without being Constabtly Chucked out of a Walk Around Double. Does that make Aense ? If so, start giving Clear instructions of Basic essential Requirements to those designing the interiors, if Dufour want to make a Success with the Changevof Ditection towards Cruising. Most of my Life .I have been a Tester and Designer with KISS Principles, and also a Timber Frame Architect that designed Timber Frame Constructions with 95% of the Benefits of Canadian R2000 Standard Buildings, for 5% of the Cost - you could never Recover the 5% losses, no matter how much you actually spent on the Building as the attempt of trying resulted in Cascading losses due to Basic design impractical inclusions. You actually Continued Saving more, by spending less. A Concept lost on most people designing supposedly Energu Efficient Housing, plus almost all Timber Frame Buildings aren't even properly put together anyway - Yep, even the horrendously expensive Scandinavian ones. All Style, poor function as a result. Seems Boat design is heading in the same Direction - Again. Sigh. Bob. 🤔🌟🌟🌟👍

PS. To easily gain more than enough Room for everything, The Forward Cabin really doesn't need to be a Walkaround, a Pullman Berth With Leecloths can actually become a Useful double Berth when on passage as well. Whoever designed the accommodation below Deck Definitely doesn't have any Cruising experience do they Janie ? The have left out the Basic essentialsxthat are needed, and frankly, after looking at the Dufour 41 ehich has had zero though given to the Massive Problem and resulting Damage done by Termites, has anyone noticed the large Termite Swarms in the Caribbean, Northern South America, and Brazil, up into the USA in the last few years ? Europe , the Mediterranean, and maybe parts of North Africa, also have a Termite Problem, and it is only recently that Termiteschave been finally eradicated in Britain. 🤔 All the Best Jamie. Bob in Wales. 👍

under w hp per foot of OAL is a bit underpowered for a Cruising Sailboat, but an 80 hp inboard diesel is close enough. If that cant be done with a Volvo, can the boat be supplied without the inboard Engine, so a Yanmar 80 hp with the ZF Saildrive without the 360 degrees Rotation be fitted instead ? zJust straightforward FNR propulsion with no Rotation is needed. OR I can buy a Bigger Volvo and get a massive Yen Discount on the price of a Yanmar, whichever is the best Deal. I know, I'm a Right Fussypants, but I know what I want, and Why I Want Things to be just Right. All the Best. Bob. 🤔🌟🌟🌟👍

So many winches..??? Sorry, who wants winches on the coachroof.? Pain about the single rudder. Interior looks great.

PS. As for the Winches, sounds like you need the cheap Easy Version ? That has fewer Winches. For Shows and Testing, They Tend to Show the Ocean Versions. That damned Saloon Table still bloody Suckscthough, Apart from the odd Linear Galley, which is almost liveable with, the interior of the Dufour 41 Saloon is better, though the forward Galley in the 44 works really well in practice. Linear Galleys are a really Liability underway, even with rear and front support, as ending up on your ear is not an infrequent experience when conditions get iffy. I'll never have another Sailboat with a Linear Galley tbh, and the Forward Galley surprised me by being more Secure, and definitely more comfortable than a Rear Saloon quarter L Shaped Galley tbh, and worth the walk to the Companionway as long as you have good handholds and hip bracing points to use going to and from the Companionway. 🤔

Why Moan about the Single Rudder ? It's a wide beamed Sailboat with a Superb below waterline profile between the Chines and a heeling angle of only 18 degrees, and who but a Toral Retard would put two unprotected Rudders on a Cruising Sailboat Anyay, as Twin Rudders only Functtion on totally outdated Racing Sailboats with Narrow Beams and extreme Heeling Angles to increase Hull Speed . Try Sailing at Night with Twin Rudders in any areas that have fields of Lobster and Crab pots and Fishing nets, and you'll soon be deciding to only Sailnin Daylight, if your Rudders haven't been Ripped off and your boat has Sunk as a result. God save us from bloody Sailboat Racing Posers, and their influences damaging Sailboat Design imho. Speaking of which the Draft on this Boat bloody Sucks for Cruising, but can be fixed to a Sensible Draft of about 4 foot 6 inches, if not a perfect 4 feet by going to the expense of having a Custom Lead Wing Keel built and fitted, and only needed because of totally Dumb Sailboat Racers, with a Draft that restricts the boat to the bloody Mediterranean. That bloody Saloon Table is ridiculous as well frankly. though the two seperate sit down Showers work, as does the Heads themselves being wet, as Cruising in the Tropics the Showers in them work well as Bidets and Douches, so no Toilet paper needed. Negotiations look to be Shaping up for me to Order one fully prepped as a Cruising Boat, though hopefully with an 80 hp inboard Diesel Option with a decent low rpm Prop. Plus a Suit of Custom Cruising Sails based on a 45 footage Draft Selden Mast with in Mast Furling, and Uprated Standing Rigging to Suit it. For me personally, with the Changes I need, this can be a Great Cruising and Voyaging Sailboat frankly. Bob. Twin Rudders? lmfao. 😅😅😅😅😅
