we just took my friend's civic on a road trip. there are 3 major complaints of this system that Alex didn't mention (I don't blame you, still the best reviewer on TH-cam!) 1: the lack of AUX input. 2: the apple carplay mode and iPod music mode conflict with each other quite a bit. sometimes when selecting iPod , it defaults to apple carplay and fails to connect and it won't allow you to select the source as iPod. 3: it took 5 of us a whole 10 minutes to find the fader control... tip: it's NOT in settings->audio... bonus minor complaint: wish there was a dedicated AC on/off button. the only way is to hit "climate" and hit the on or off soft buttons.
Trevor Harris its ridiculously well hidden... With the stereo turned on, tap the "Home" button to the left of the touch screen. Select "Audio" on the screen, then the "Menu" button to the left. The "Sound" tab will appear at the bottom of the screen.
Thanks Alex. Great overview of the infotainment system. Really looking forward to the full 2016 Civic review! I love how you break down all of the different aspects of each car with a rating system so we can easily compare each car to other cars you've reviewed.
Mine is having trouble integrating to Apple Car play. I think the entertainment system has a lot of glitches. Sometimes the apple car play works, sometimes not. The problem is most of the time we can't browse the media on the screen as it only goes blank. The IPOD and the apple carplay also conflicts each another.
+Alex on Autos whenever the new civic came out, my dad went to look at a Civic Touring, however we couldn't find any display for the temperature the A/C or Heat was set to (None of the dealership employees could either, at that time no one knew much about the civic as it was brand new). Do you have any idea where the temperature display is located?
Hi Alex, curious what you will think of suspension. I found it let through some very short harsh jolts to the steering wheel and also steering felt numb. Other than that great they added lanewatch but it's only 15fps so it stutters. Otherwise very nice interior and exterior nice infotainment system.
Thanks for uploading this video. I just got a new honda civic 2017. My question is in order to use apple car play do u always need to have the phone connected to the USB cable everytime u want to use car play?
Is there any solution to fast forward or rewind or scrub through the audio track? I'm hearing from a lot of hour long podcasts and at the moment I find no solution to go to a specific position on the audio track that's currently being played.
@Alex on Autos Is it mandatory to plug the iPhone (with a wire) to use all the Carplay features, or a bluetooth connection is enough ? Also, is there a way to get the Carplay interface when you start the car ? Without having to press the dedicated CarPlay button. Thanks
I just saw the same answer somewhere else. But it's strange, since the music could, for sure, be send wirelessly. Like bluetooth home speakers. Same for Siri. Same for podcasts. Same for phone sound in/out. And the same for audiobooks. So I can't get the point... Except for the iPhone battery life. In my case, it'd be pretty annoying, since I mainly do shorts trips. (I work at less than 10 min from my home). Also, I thought that the Carplay was better integrated. Actually it's much like as a third party application embedded into the main multimedia/audio system. It would have been cool if you have been able to control your car temperature or radio stations with Carplay (and so, via Siri...). Probably in a next iOS revision...
Apple and Google have both said that Bluetooth will never be supported in this way. The protocol just doesn't support the data rates required. WiFi will be covered in the future, but Bluetooth is a "never" item according to both. The main reason is that the car acts as an over glorified monitor and keyboard and Bluetooth was not designed for what is essentially streaming video.
BTW, I'm about to buy the LX model, do you know what "WI-FI POWERED BY A MODEM CONNECTIVITY" (*) means ? Does it means that your Civic works as a wi-fi router via your iPhone tethering ? (*) Translation from french: "Connectivité Wi-fi alimentée par un modem"
Can someone help me ...??? If i need to install this screen on an e46 bmw 2005 will it work? ... ill make a 3d printed fitment case for the middle dashboard to fit but will it turn on and work properly?
How is the phone battery life if it's used in this way during the entire driving like 3+hours? My phone battery drains really quickly if I use the navigation in several hours of driving, even it's connected to the power. Is it better with android auto/carplay?
+Hyogi Sim You may be able to upgrade to a higher power car power socket adapter which may be able to keep up with your battery drain. Look for one that can deliver >2 amps.
+R Usack On all but the LX, the charging port in the center dash is 1.5A. Not as good as 2.0 or more, but better than 1.0 or less. The other charge port (inside the armrest) is still just 1.0 amps.
+Hyogi Sim I mentioned this because I have a volt/amp meter for USB ports and devices. I know from that my phone draws right on about 1 amp of current at most. It's not uncommon to find USB ports and USB power adapters that cannot deliver enough current to keep up with both charging the phone's battery while also being used with several of its radios in use (network and perhaps Bluetooth in this case). Using the phone's GPS and navigation just adds more load to that.
Has anyone else had compatibility issues with this system ? Often times when I plug my iPhone 6 into the USB port I get an error saying check cable and after another error says Apple car play cannot start ?
+texasyank48 Sound quality with FM/XM/BT is complete garbage. Mids and highs are washed out. At least on the Touring model. I pray to God that some company takes pity and releases an aftermarket HU that's not complete garbage, and is compatible with air conditioning, cameras, and other gimmickry Honda decided to punish us with. HD radio is alright, but that's because it's a separate standalone Panasonic receiver. hidden behind left rear passenger plastic rail.
+AManWithAPlan4 : You can only traverse usb music by folder structure and the interface is slow and laggy - and devoid of buttons. All that makes it hard to use, particularly when DRIVING.
Is the interface still slow and laggy, after importing though -- or is it somehow faster? I can't test this myself, as I don't have the civic, but it's something I noticed when I went to look at the car for a test drive. It's one of the main reasons I didn't buy the car, as the infotainment in my Mazda3 is maddening -- so I'm very familiar with how a decent car can be ruined by a sucky infotainment system. I didn't want to make the same mistake with the Civic.
Wow that interface is so bad. This is a brilliant car but this information system is terrible and it's actually preventing me from buying the car. I mean just look at that garbage @4:27 "Instrume / nt Panel". In what universe is that acceptable?
+Jeffrey Baker just buy the car and swap out the factory head unit with a Pioneer one genius. A decent one only cost like $200 and you can install it yourself.
Climate control in a touch screen menu? Why? Crappy volume controls. So sad. I really love Honda products, but the over design of crap that people don't need has me looking at other cars.

rainystorm88 where is the fade/balance settings then, I couldn't find it lol.

I really love the new civic

Nothing better than a touch screen to take your eyes off the road.
Alex, I think this is your 500th video!
+Tony Soottinanchai 520 According to the online dashboard :)

+AManWithAPlan4 You press the climate button and it is displayed on the screen
In canada the lx gets that screen too
cant wait for the full review .. i will probably buy one , and your full review will definitely be a big factor
For the map on the Apple Car play, you have "+" and "-" icon to zoom in and zoom out the map.
ALEX.... I have apple car play and an iphone. Why doesn't the browser area that u showed work on iphone? Is it only for android?
Hi Alex, curious what you will think of suspension. I found it let through some very short harsh jolts to the steering wheel and also steering felt numb. Karen Cornejo yes!! The phone have to be plugged in all the times
Is it possible to watch videos on the screen? Cause when i try to watch , it doesn't show the movie at all...?
No
I wonder if it would ever be possible to physically upgrade the screen in the future to the setup that's in the new Accord (to have knobs).
How do you connect smartphone to the apple CarPlay? Since plug my charger into the civic usb car but it won't work. Can you please show me how?
Plug it into the outlet below the unit and not the outlet inside the arm console.
Alex, does this allow you to use Google Maps or are you restricted to Apple Maps?
How is it compared to Ford Sync 3?
This must be on US only, 2016 civics in the UK don’t have apple play
I want to install this head unit on my civic 2008. Is it possible? What is the name of the head unit?
Is there any solution to fast forward or rewind or scrub through the audio track? I'm hearing from a lot of hour long podcasts and at the moment I find no solution to go to a specific position on the audio track that's currently being played.
Can the display show maps and audio together or is it one or the other?
@Alex on Autos

Yes, the same goes for Android Auto. Bluetooth does not provide the bandwidth required for these to work.
I just saw the same answer somewhere else. But it's strange, since the music could, for sure, be send wirelessly. Like bluetooth home speakers.

The LX doesn't have the Carplay apps.
Hey Alex do you know the 450 watt system in the touring model is from which brand.
i love my 2017 civic
Can someone help me ...??? If i need to install this screen on an e46 bmw 2005 will it work? ... ill make a 3d printed fitment case for the middle dashboard to fit but will it turn on and work properly?

+JesseOsby Are you meaning USB ports or power sockets which you would then plug a USB charge adapter?
+R Usack Thanks for your answer. And, for the android auto, basically the battery consumption wouldn't be much different?

If I use navigation through apple carplay to drive places, does it consume phone data or no?
yes it does
When is the full review coming?
+Jerome H probably tomorrow
Is there an HDMI port in the new Civic?
no
Awesome review
Has anyone else had compatibility issues with this system ? Often times when I plug my iPhone 6 into the USB port I get an error saying check cable and after another error says Apple car play cannot start ?
Why don't you comment on sound quality?

Thanks, not surprised. It would cost so little for Honda to upgrade the sound quality in its cars, at least make it a dealer upgrade.
@Alex on Autos
What is "63" upper left?
Simon David i think it is the aircon temp in farenheit
can someone please tell me how to view the gallery option to view your pics on the dash ? ..using Android phone
This video goes way too fast.
user interface look a lot better than acura infotainment.
Can you use Spotify on it?
Yes
the mazda one was much cleaner
My CarPlay has iheart radio
You forgot to mention how frustrating the system is to use with mp3s on a USB stick.
In my opinion it's not very difficult to use
+AManWithAPlan4 : You can only traverse usb music by folder structure and the interface is slow and laggy - and devoid of buttons. All that makes it hard to use, particularly when DRIVING.
USB with folder structure... try just importing songs.

please search lsailt friend
So much lag. Compare to iDrive this is 'so funny'. Hahaha...
fuck apple carplay. it doesn't even work reliably on my civic
i didnt know Uub could afford a Civic at first place XD
you have very poor knowledge when it comes to android. get s7 a month later
Wow that interface is so bad. This is a brilliant car but this information system is terrible and it's actually preventing me from buying the car. I mean just look at that garbage @4:27 "Instrume / nt Panel". In what universe is that acceptable?
