  • We’ve got some heavy breathing and some personal tips here from one of the dudes who know best. Switch pushing is essential if you’re going to go the distance. Here’s some advice on how to push switch (with your OTHER foot) on a skateboard / longboard. We can do another one of these on a tiny board if people find it helpful.

    I just started recently and decided to just ride switch when I pump the other foot and commit to being comfortable turning and pumping switch. Definitely was odd at first but already (after only three 2 hours sessions) riding switch is becoming second nature. Just takes miles and miles of pumping lol. Also its heaven sent to ride switch when your front foot muscles are burning (I have flat feet).

      @@marioelburro1492 oof yeah I'm two (unrelated) knee injuries out after buying a board and it's too risky for me to ever progress past the beginner stage. Isn't the board's fault though, apparently I've just always had shitty kneecaps and we didn't catch that until knee injury number three. I would like to wish you luck in your journey though ✌️

    I'm planning on a 500km longboard trip from amsterdam to paris coming summer (if covid allows it). only now after 5 years of skating and a 200km trip to another country I'm learnig to ride switch. first time doing it today for like two hours and its getting more comfortable already. just wish i did this sooner.

    At 45 I'm still working on this for the past few months. I can do switch foot transfers fine and I can do switch foot at slow speeds but not at fast speed/alot of force with pushing. I skate on 95% flat terrain so I guess the main thing I need to do is take your advise and work on gliding on the board foot. Ironically, I'm doing fine with skating exclusively in my main stance (left foot on board) at all of my distances (up to 26 miles).

    I personally like to use the whole length of the standing platform, it makes switching feet faster, when you're going up taking the time to shuffle your feet can really have a bad effect on your momentum
    Just my take on it! Thanks for the vid Jeff!

      To each his own! Honestly it’s super fluid, having been doing this for some time now. I just made an effort to switch slowly so that people could see it and understand what’s happening.

    Nice! Are those Xero shoes? How long do the soles last you. I just got into skateboarding. I usually wear Xero shoes, but got a pair of Vans shoes for skateboarding to save the soles. If your Xeros last a while I may just wear mine on the days I'm scooting around. Thanks!

    • @PantheonLongboards
      @PantheonLongboards  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      they will last for a long time if you try not to footbrake too much. the rubber is pretty durable. but I pretty much refuse to footbrake at all in them...My last set lasted for over a year and actually still doesn't have a hole through the sole, but it's paper thin in the toe.

    Better with mongo pushing on longboard. Better steering, goes faster and is better on rough ground

    How do you feel about the "chi-pushing" technique? I started using it because mongo just feels wrong to me. I've begun to overcome the "skating backwards" sensation when I switch stances, so I think it's worth a look for anyone into ldp and skogging.

    • @PantheonLongboards
      @PantheonLongboards  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've actually never heard of it. Do you just mean full switch? Personally I have a hard time overcoming the feeling of skating backwards. I'm fine with it for fun, but for high speed pushing or when I'm super tired, I'm not into it. I'll do it for fun at low speeds though!

    • @PantheonLongboards
      @PantheonLongboards  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      not familiar with the specifics. I prefer switching to mongo over going full switch, but that's just me. but my feeling is that it requires less energy to just step back than it does to turn around. if you're just cruising, the doors open up wide for any experimentation, but when you're skating for speed or for a workout, my feeling is that you want to spend as little time switching as possible.
      personally, I started skating mongo when I was 12 years old, so there's no odd feeling there for me. learning regular was a big win since it's sort of the more natural way to be doing it anyway.

      th-cam.com/video/NiQ6LuWiOKg/w-d-xo.html Here's what it looks like. I use it on flats and uphill. It's really fun, once you get used to it. It's also a great way to learn one foot steering with either foot. When I pick up real speed, I just go back to my regular stance and into downhill mode.
