My Dad has most appreciated our taking over his grocery shopping and finances. Of all the presents he’s liked, he LOVES the 8 x 11 digital calendar clock that we can program with reminders. He says that just knowing the date and time makes him feel more centered.

If they are in assisted living facility brand name toilet paper and tissues. The one's we supply are generic and not very soothing. Most facilities do not supply personal toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, or tweezers and trimmers. I have suggested to families that a wipe warmer for wet wipes is great because residents won't or don't like to use them because they are cold. Stop with the fresh flowers!!! They forget they are there, or residents pick them apart or knock them over! I love your ideas on taking them out to see Christmas lights or dinner (or bring dinner to them). What they want besides comfort is attention.

So many wonderful ideas. My husband is just starting down the dementia journey. He used to be an avid reader but finds books more difficult now. I bought him a book of cartoons which will be easier to manage and hopefully make him laugh.

It's so heartbreaking when they can no longer do what they enjoyed. Such a loss.

The only gift my father liked that I gave him was the fart gun (think minions and gru) he wouldn't let my niece and nephew see or play with it lol. My father has dementia. He was an Explosive Ordance Disposal expert in the military and demolitions after the military...its sad to see his decline.
