- The big combine motor blow-up through Doug's eyes. He was not a happy camper. They don't make things like they used to. Thankfully, John Deere was quick to help get the combine repaired.
Amy updates us about her week regarding her neck and the procedure to help lessen pain.
Stay tuned for further updates and happenings with Doug (Dougo) & Amy.
Thanks for joining us & blessings to you,
Amy

Perfectly exemplifies the current status of Deere.
Dougo's comments about the country heading in the wrong direction is spot on. Sadly I believe it's not just the country, but the whole world.
He ain't lied he's absolutely right bout that this country has been in the wrong direction since Joe biden has been president president
Bean counters have taken over manufacturing.
@@krisroenigk5640 Bean counters are the most dangerous thing aside from DEI hires. People are hired above their capabilities
Yes, too much subsidy to the large farms.....
@@krisroenigk5640They've taken over everything!
Doug ya hit the nail on the head so to speak....it needed to be said!!!!
Yep, the design, casting, machining, assembling...of those 7K hr engines, everybody involved in "those" engines were spanked or had the opportunity to get spanked as an accountability enhancer.
The blueing on the journal is from heat caused by lack of lubrication.
100%
Dougo you express what everyone is thinking, pay more for less! Doesn’t matter what it is.Great job with the camera, enjoy your attention to detail . You know what we like to see on any project. Amy sending prayers for a speedy recovery.
Doug, you are not wrong. Things are not made like they used to be. Cheap steel, lower engineering standards, cheap parts. All to save a buck. Amy, I hope your procedures go as well as you are praying for. Get well soon. Loved the further shots of the engine.
You held it together brilliantly Dugo ten out of ten. I think your comments re build quality are correct thanks for giving him the opportunity to video Amey.
Dougo, you have come so far since starting to talk on these videos. You do a great job.
He has come a long way, hasn’t he? Yay!
Sometimes it takes time for a person to realize a publicly shared voice. And when it happens it becomes a special treasure to know and appreciate. Thank you...
Prayers for amy
Prayers from Oklahoma Amy for a speedy and complete recovery. I understand Doug’s sadness with the engine failure and the direction our country is going. Take care guys and stay safe.
I agree 100% with you !!!! It's unbelievable to say the least. Combines back in the days of 60s and 70s would last seemed like forever but when you have a machine costing close to a million bucks blowing up is beyond belief.
its all down to chance, they got very unlucky.. combines are definately more prone to breakdown these days but thats because they are much more complicated expecially with the electronics. that complexity is there for a reason though and i think we would see ppl still combining with those 70s models if they really were better
I don't know what Deere uses for sure, but they may be using powdered metal connecting rods. That is a process used that reduces cost of manufacturing over forging or casting rods. Rather than casting a rod using "liquid" metal or forging a billet, you use a metal powder under pressure to make the rod. The crank and pin bores are machined then the rod cap is "removed" by cracking the end of the rod off. Makes a unique rod cap that doesn't require further machining. It can work fine as long as it's done right. They might have had some Q.C. issues along the way.
This should make Dougo’s day. I’m just a little older.
Had a JD shop Forman tell me I should have bought extended warranty on a tractor. I give him an understanding that if John Deere made quality equipment like they used to do they wouldn’t need extended warranty. They used to didn’t know what it even was.
We had a new case 100 hp tractor in which the engine lasted 50 hours before it ceased. I am 70 and never had this happen before. Old engines went on and on. We had one tractor that 20000 hours on it and was stillvgoing strong. Things were built to last not any more. Now we live in a throw away society. Pleased to learn they fixed it quickly for you. Best wishes from NZ
Bought a F150 in 2017 the Intake manifold exploded literally exploded at like 5k miles since then the truck has gone on to have paint issues cause the factory paint is garbage and its just been a nightmare soooooooo cheaply made.
Totally agree, I am also 70 and have watched the deterioration of equipment and society, I still drive a 30 year old Isuzu truck, it will see me out with regular maintenance. Also from Canterbury NZ
As a farmer Doug, you know that things break no matter the color. My dad was a John Deere mechanic from the early 60s into the 1990s. Rods going through the blocks due to bearing failures were not unknown with all makes. I can remember many a block was taken to our local machine shop where the hole was patched then returnec to the dealership, new parts installed, and the combine quickly returned to service. Dad worked on all brands. It was a different time.
Dougo is killing it! Becoming a great cameraman plus a great intro on Chet's channel!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Praying for You.
God Bless 🙏
Great job running the camera, Doug!
Duogo your exactly spot on.
Amy definitely praying for complete healing your faith is a great testimony thank you GOD BLESS ❤❤
Prayers for your healing, get well soon!
Dougo and Amy, heartfelt thanks for the absolutely super video on your medical procedure and the filming of the combine without an engine story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First the combine: just beyond words. I have never seen anything like that before in my years with farming. Wow.
Dougo you did a great job of filming the engine coming out of the combine and what it looked like once on the ground and we could see the engine parts and look into the block. Excellent filming of the engine assembly and all the associated parts and pieces and the many shields and brackets and everything!!!!!!!!’ That was most definitely interesting!!!!!!! Thanks for your filming and the narrative you did explaining all of the situation and all.
Even more so, appreciated you talking about how you feel about the situation. It was great to hear your side of the story as the farmer without a combine. Excellent narrative Dougo!!!!!!!!’
I do want to thank your main John Deere technician, Justin, for his great service work and dedication to getting this engine switched over. My compliments to Justin!!!!!
Also thanks to your dealership, Kibble, for getting right on this project and making things happen. Thanks for helping the Larson family!!!!!!!!!!! Wow.
Once again, thanks for showing all of this situation to us through the filming. Has been fantastic. Amazing!!!!!!!!!!
Second; our amazing lady Amy!!!!!!! Thanks ever so much for telling us about your medical procedure that you have had this past week and more to come. I thought you did an excellent job of explaining your procedure and the outcome and the thoughts behind it and the good results you are getting. Nice narrative Amy!!!!!!!!!’😊
I can imagine it was not a pleasant experience but knowing you, you worked your way through it and working towards good results!!!!!!!!
That is the way Amy!!!!!!!!!
I like the fact you didn’t have surgery and were able to improve you pain situation through this non invasive procedure. Looking forward to your updates on your recovery ❤️🩹.
My compliments to you doctor for his fine professionalism and helping you lessen the pain discomfort. It is wonderful you found this doctor that does this procedure and not have surgery.
You take care of yourself Amy, and heartfelt Prayers to you for an extremely good Recovery ❤️🩹.
Thanks to both of you for this amazing video with such interesting stories.
Sending my blessings to you both and may God watch over you both!!!!!
The Iowa farm boy. Steve.
😊👍💕💕🙏🙏🇺🇸
Beautifully said Steve. I live in UK, and for several years, I was an Ag Engineer. OK it was 40 yrs ago, but have seen this scenario several times, having worked for a few different dealers and differing manufacturers around the country. The fact that the engine blew isn't that strange, it does happen. But with all the recent changes, the story goes on. Quality of manufacture is a result of JIT (just in time) spares holding. No one wants to have more than enough inventory than they need so just order enough for what they plan to build. That goes all the way down the line, and most only store what they need. That is why there are back orders everywhere, nobody has more than they need now! If the economy were different, everyone would be able to get what they want, when they want it. Not with things the way they are, big changes need to happen, but that is a different story...
Thanks for you input ity gives those who don't understand why/how thing work, your a pleasure to read , keep up the good work. Oh and I agree with your comments re: Amy. She is a treasure. And imagine life without Dougo - Not conceivable, he is the power behind Larson Farms. Love the man!

Thanks for your reply. Agree with your comments about agriculture. And yes Dougo and Amy are such treasures to the Larson Farm Operation!!!’
I have long time friends in the UK. After farming I was in the Air Force and became friends with a RAF Air Force couple. We have continued our friendship through the years. Both of us retired now.
Again, thank you for your note. Steve.
Speedy recovery Amy
Saying a few extra prayers for you, Amy, and hope this process will help you! Lets also hope for no more breakdowns this harvest, you guys have had enough to last a long time. Dougo is correct, nothing is made like it used to be.... 🙏🙏🙏
Prayers to your wife and her surgeries!!!!! Ugh. Mechanical stuff can be fixed but surgery is another world.
Great Video Doug 👍you all covered well and yes World is going 👉wrong direction 🇨🇦
God will heal you Amy you are one of his shining pupils❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you. I learning from the amazing Teacher.
Thank you for explaining your procedure Amy. Hope it ends up helping you alot. Lots of love and prayers to you. Love ya Amy❤❤
Doug you are a natural with the camera. I would be very frustrated too considering the amount of investment you have in that like new combine. I'm also with you on the lack of quality today. I believe a good part of it is the emissions guide lines the manufactures have to follow has greatly shortened the life of modern engines. EPA has way to much power over us in my opinion. Mabe you should of considered keeping the 9750 as a back up after the steering column was repaired of course. Wishing well with your treatments Amy.
Prayers of healing sent to you Amy.
Good luck to you Amy.
Always enjoy your videos Dougo is a hoot keep praying it’s really the best answer!
Wow that is unbelievable how that connecting rod broke loose and came thru the engine wall. Amy we’re praying for you. Thanks for the video. 👍❤️🙏
Amy the amount of stress Doug is dealing with right now is unreal, praying that everything works out and harvest ends on a good note!! I'll be praying for you as well and a speedy recovery
Thank you! 😊
Great video Dougo
Always love seeing your videos guys much love and respect thanks for sharing ❤
Great video today, Amy! I appreciate Doug's frustration with today's manufacturing quality. I've had four recalls so far on my 2022 pick-up truck and believe poor quality is an issue in many industries.
Prayers for you Amy that you find the perfect solution for your neck issue and that you return to full health quickly.
Thank you for the prayers.
Doug, You are absolutely right~~~ they don't make ANYTHING like they used to! Amy, I am sending you Prayers of Love, healing, peace and comfort! 🙏❤️🙏 Please keep us posted on your progress.
Yea Dougo !!! He is a great on-air personality
Prayers for a speedy recovery for you Amy
Great video will be praying for you to get better soon God bless you
Thanks so much
Love the Dougo videos and hope you are doing well soon Amy!
My niece broke her neck from a fall and had the same procedure you did and she is much better now.
Good to hear. Thank you!
Beautiful weather for a field engine change.
Ole Tractor #2 took a literal #2 💩 🧑🌾 Wouldn’t have guessed it would have done it in the first year of service. Prayers you will get better Amy, and Dougo stay the course your doing great. Stay safe Larson Families🙏😇🙏👍👍
What tractor?
Get well soon Miss Amy
Thank you ☺️
Great job Doug 👍👍
A Missouri farmer told me this a few years ago - “It’s a lot more like it is now than it used to be”. He was describing how much crap is being is manufactured now and so much doesn’t work or fails early. Best wishes Amy. I had a torn Rotator Cuff two years ago. To avoid surgery, I went with Stem Cell’s worked wonderfully in conjunction with PT.
Prayers, Amy, as you progress with your healing.
It’s too bad Mr. Engine went away. The impressive thing is how quickly you were up and running. That’s a good Deere I think.
Amy, good luck healing.
Thanks for your thoughtful commentary. 😊
I agree with you. Things are not like they used to be. Glad that the combine is back running. Hope your wife's neck gets well.
Prayers for you Amy your a strong woman and I hope the pain goes away
I hope you continue to get better. It’s very thoughtful of you to hold back the combine footage until now.
I hope you have a speedy recovery Amy!
Minnesota has awesome spine and neurological expects. Hope you get feeling better soon. God bless, rest easy and let others do all the lifting and chores.
DOUGO i agree with you about our country . Amy thoughts and prayers for you .
Praying for healing! Bless your heart & thankful for your girlfriend being available to help you.
Dougo did a great job on the opening & his frustration is shared by many. Safe harvest for the boys! 🌽
All the best to you Amy.
Had the same procedure done on my knee 11 months ago , real happy with the results!
Good on ya holding your tongue Dougo. Although I'd prefer it if you didn't have to. Spot on!
Amy, my prayers, hope for a speedy recovery.
Amy, glad to hear that you are taking care of yourself and resting. I am a BIG fan of PRP and have had tremendous success using it on my knees and back.
Bless you Amy - I will pray
Prayers for healing Amy.
I have read good things with platelet treatments. Best of luck to you, just keep telling yourself this is going to be great.
Good health to you Amy.
Great footage. Very interesting to see what is all involved in removing a motor. You hit the nail on the head on nothing is made like it used to be.
I have one just like that in my shop it happened in wheat harvest. I know how it feels. Hopefully you have a good and safe harvest!!!
Not fun!
Sending prayers for God to help you have a great treatment and lots of patience for Dougo in a very stressful time.
Dougo, you are spot on with the comment about things are not built like they used to be, and Amy I hope you have good results with your prp procedure. I had my rotator cuff and labrum injury treated that way 2 years ago and my shoulder is good and now I’m in the process of getting the other shoulder scheduled for it.
Dougo you are right, about things not build today they used to be. Most of the problem is too much tech and not enough old school knowledge is put into the design as the saying goes, what you put in the computer is what comes out with an answer so if you put in the wrong figure it give you the right answer to the wrong question . By looking at the crankshaft it looks like it has a problem with oil supply to that big end bearing which I have seen many times in the last few years on high performance motors that have done the same thing. It was good that John Deere did get the engine swapped so you could carry on with the job.
Be Thankful For the Warranty on Engine!
I Agree With You On The Quality I have a Couple 4440 and 4640 and Still Running Strong!
God will help you Amy.Stay strong with all of these medical procedures we will pray for all of your families.
You take care of that neck & know you're in my prayers
The main thing is you get better God bless you, Amy i I hope it works
Prayers for a quick recovery
Hi Amy, I had Spinal Stenosis (which I didn't know about) and had a car accident which broke my neck. Because of the Stenosis it damaged my Spinal Cord and I ended up a Quadriplegic. Thankfully over the course of two years of Physical and Occupational therapy I can now walk and use both arms although with difficulty.
My take on the whole process is always to try the non-surgical methods first. my accident was almost 20 years ago and I still have to do Physical therapy quite often but it is worth it. I live a very rewarding life, thanks to the support and love from my family and my Physical therapist at the Minneapolis VA Spinal Cord Injury center. The other thing I have determined is if you keep a positive attitude it helps the healing process.
You guys are great very positive attitude as you show on videos, I understand the combine frustration, I am a 24.5 year Deere Field Tech and I do agree customers pay way to much money for an inferior product now days. And Mrs Amy you hang in there God is with you and we are all as well.
Bless you all! Heal soon!
Retired trucker here the trucking industry has the same issues double the cost and half the reliability
LOVE Dougo!!!!!!!!
I work at JD with your situation the problem is the emissions standards the government requires. It drives up cost of the R&D, as well as manufacturing costs. All the DEF and EPA regulations hurt performance and longevity. Doug I'm sorry you had to deal with this. I'm just happy they got you going fairly quickly.
sloppy assembly/quality control!
Hope you get better soon prayers are with you
Nailed it! Even lawnmowers are junk these days. Top dollar for garbage.
Awesome video . thank you so much. I really hope you adr getting better and stronger
In all fairness to John Deere, the combine made it 360 hours just fine, it was the 361st hour that things went south.
Dougo you did a great job on camera and talking
By the looks of the bearing journal on the crank looks like it spun a rod bearing and that would cause the wrist pin to loose lubrication. Hence the rod exits the engine! Doug your a great videographer!
He is a great videographer 🎥
Nice rod assembly.
Good luck with your treatments Mrs. Larson 😊
Hope your procedure works Amy.Dougo good job on the camera. The engine situation stuff happens , years ago we had tractor that bent a rod got it stoped , rebuilt it had the same issue within a few months, they brought in deere people started ckecking everything and it was the crank not turned right, it kept binding the rod .Repaced the crank never had another issue ,its still running great. Just another stop on the ole struggle bus.
Praying for you all.
Amazing that they changed engines out in the field.
I have constant neck and shoulder pain and am very interested in your success with your treatment. God Bless you Amy. Oh, and we all love Doug on the camera!
Wishing you a complete recovery
May god bless with his healing
I always keep you all in my prayers 🙏 and thoughts ❤
Hopefully things improve for everyone, Dougo don’t let those issues cause you to change who you are. You have no control of what happened, say to yourself, We are lucky no harm came to anyone, tomorrow is a day you can be thankful will come!
Prayers for quick healing 🙏
Good luck with the whole neck thing Amy
Thank you ☺️
