  • In this conversation about evil, John Butler treads very carefully, bearing in mind that whatever we attend to will appear to grow. Is evil a real force? Is there a devil? How do we avoid 'the bottomless pit'? How can meditation deliver us from evil?
You can now listen to John on Spotify and other audio platforms. Here is his most popular recording 'Common sense guide to meditation' (1m views) - ffm.to/commonsenseguidetomedi....

Mr. Butler. I don't know how to say this any other way, but thank you. I'm just some college kid from the U.S and I've been currently going through my own battle with evil. The words you spoke has helped to break down the darkness that's been hampering my view of what is truly important. I can only thank God that your video appeared in my recommended feed. Such a powerful attitude towards evil and SO different from so many online people, obsessing over looking for and finding evil! They look for symbols and words and anything to prove spiritual danger. These people spend so much time on posts involving secret evil groups that they SO want to exist, but they never turn to the light. Their obsession and their perceived battle has brought them into darkness. What we obsess about, we magnify. So do not fight when there is a choice, rather, avoid and ignore evil, let it starve.

I wanted to clarify that earlier i apologize. I didn’t think about it until I had hit the post button 😂. But I understand. I’ve accustomed to the saying ‘none of self; all of Thee’ words to a hymn I love singing. I guess what I meant to speak about was the fact that Spirit does speak and not John himself. I could tell even the respect of presence when Spirit speaks through him; he allows His words first and stays quiet till he’s ready to say those words. When I watched him do that, I realized it’s an incredible amount of respect and true honor towards what is of light. I just felt, well I guess to say to John, thank you for being an Oracle not of his own but of Spirit. There’s always a bigger picture

This is my understanding. God being Love can have no opposite. The opposite of love is fear which is merely the absence of love. It doesn’t have existence as love does. Though we experience it and all it’s evil effects in the world, it’s only a belief in our mind that gives it the appearance of reality.

Thank you John for your every word. I come from a different religion to yours, one which I have developed for myself over the few years I've been on this earth. I am a spiritual Satanist, or a theistic Satanist. I have been in league with the devil as I understand him for sixteen years. He has given me much power to withstand the storms in this world. I also follow Lucifer, the lightbringer. I feel that Lucifer has guided me to your channel, for he is the angel of light to me. And you are a messenger of light to me also. You talk of peace which I have been fortunate enough to witness a handful of times during my prayers to the deities I call demons I choose to venerate. This video has given me a much needed perspective on the Fallen One, the first to turn from the light. This perspective has grown my understanding of God and Satan, of Light and Dark. Thank you for enlightening me. I am still in this world, but I have also grown to understand what it means to be an immortal soul.
You are an inspiration anyone can appreciate, even someone like me who seems to be at the opposite pole in this existence we all share. Peace be with you.

"Why do we so often choose darkness to light..." I ask myself the same question... Why is it that negative energy often feels more tempting, makes us feel more powerful than that of light? Light always seems like such a struggle. We fight to be good yet feel as though we're not actually accomplishing anything and we're always knocked back. The evil survive yet the good die. Darkness gives us a feeling of control and maybe that's what it is. To surrender to light, to that struggle, is to relinquish that control.

John's example of looking toward light vs dark is the idea of positive vs negative thinking. We can perceive things positively (in the light) or negatively (in darkness). The devil that we see in the mirror, the devil inside of us, is the temptation to choose the easy path of darkness. It's more difficult to resist those temptations and to think positively, but the reward of pure thought and self respect are worth it.
Whether you follow the religious aspect or not, it's a good lesson to be learned, and is essential to finding satisfaction in everyday life. After all, that is what life is; a collection of experiences put back to back. John's saying of "Keep your feet on the ground" pushes you towards mastering your mind by being present.

I think in the preface to that very book, "The Screwtape Letters", C.S. Lewis says that there are two errors one can make as regards devils: 1) To ignore their existence, and 2) To acknowledge their existence, but take a rather too enthusiastic interest in them. It seems to me that John here treads the line between these two errors admirably, without falling into either.

Nardus is the bush that will give the oil. The oil that Jesus had on his feet. It also can be an indication of the cerebral spinal fluid that embalms the pineal gland. This activates everytime you fall asleep or meditate. In other words, you are meditating every night. Jesus said that when the two eyes become one hence the activation of the gland, the body will be full of light.
Having said that, I do believe because of my own personal experiences that God speaks to you, throught your dreams once or twice in your life. Just to give your stay a purpose a mission if you will. It is up to you to follow that path or not, as John states to look at the light or turn away from it.
    Thank You John.
I feel the light within you.
May our sins be forgiven and God Bless.

I have the greatest respect for you, Mr Butler, and have just ordered your book in hopes of growing in understanding. However, and I say this with respect and not to be critical, but you tell us that if we turn back to the light, the darkness fades away, as when we awaken from a nightmare. Basically, that it can only exist if we allow it to.
But that darkness is very real when you think of things like the 9/11 terrorists, or people who go into schools and shoot innocent children. Not thinking about evil doesn’t stop people from committing more evil.
I would very much like to hear your views on what you think we should be doing with regards to the very real darkness that exists in our world. Those who lose loved ones to evil can’t just pretend it didn’t happen, even if they are leaning on Jesus to stay strong. What would you be telling them? I ask this with all sincerity and not to be picking apart your teachings. God bless.

Wendy St.Germain these sad events imo were done by souls that werent ready, and didnt open their true (soul) eyes. What u can do is control ur own universe, to be a better being. If you truly believe in it, this positivity will spread, and change the souls around you. On the long run, this could improve humanity. Coz it seems like this earth is a training ground, or a school if u will. Not every pupil will get the lesson, or get straigh A’s. Some pupils still need to develop and study. And the mistake and bad actions of these individuals, can be a great lesson for good souls that want to to find the correct eternal answer.

Ron nono Those are the actions of lost souls in these “religions”. Same could be said of old christianity, forcing it with violence and death (see how old Spain used to behave and not only them). All religions, if u read the true word, and dont focus on the human aspect of them, talk about the exact same thing.

The Mighty Mutt my guess is that the loud bangs in most of john’s videos that were recorded at the church, are from the big doors opening and closing when people enter and leave. the latches.

That wink at the end John you cheeky... "devil". One thing and this is more a response to a feeling I had and saw in one our two comments when John was talking about modern day media (for context I'm a 23 year old filmmaker) and the evil represented their-in and I had my initial disagreements but idk it definitely works in context of the conversation. I have a lot more to say but y'all should just read David Lynch's book "Catching the Big Fish", it brooches why and how someone could illustrate the darker sides of human nature and do it from a position 100% empathy without feeding that darkness.
