I was born in 1963. We lived in Boston but had a cabin in New Hampshire where I rode dirt bikes. I remember my dad always had laying around motorcycle buyers guides through the early to mid-seventies before he passed. I fell in love with the CanAm’s and always wanted one. They where cutting edge.
Damn! One amazing performing bike, even compared to today's standards. The fact that it performs like that, with the bike being from 1975 is mind-blowing. I noticed that Jr. didn't even have to play with the clutch to get that front wheel to keep coming up. All he had to do was crack on the throttle, and that front wheel kept coming up. Very impressive. Great video. I just saw your Jimmy Ellis Interview Video, for the first time, a little bit earlier today. Before discovering your channel, I had never heard of Jimmy Ellis before, but his accomplishments are amazing, and he was a really nice guy.
I can remember as a kid, racing AMA at Delta Ohio and these Can-Am bikes and the Suzukis were the bikes to have then. If you didn't have of these, you were in the back eating roost! Great job keeping the motocross heritage alive. Love the videos!
Nice!.. Remember watching J. Ellis @ Southwick in 1976/77 The Factory Honda,Yamaha,Suzuki had better suspension but that motor of the can-am was pretty stout!
Wow....Jimmy Ellis. He went to Australia and raced in the Mr Motocross series from 1983 onwards for KTM and Yamaha. He even raced in the 1986 Finke Desert Race and was leading the race until his transfer port cracked.
I work at a Yamaha dealership in Bunbury Western Australia and Jimmy used to come in a fair bit before he moved back to the U.S. Really nice guy, Had some cool stories, He got a helmet signed by all the guys when he got inducted into the hall of fame and we have it on the wall in our shop along with the ticket stubb to the event edit just watched another vid helmet is here at 20 seconds in th-cam.com/video/zL5UqUnGhoU/w-d-xo.html
Sure would be nice to get credit for the restoration and build of this gorgeous Canam.....I didn't need to sell it to you Ken. If not for the look on Jr. Face when he saw it, I would have never let you have it....Ken Jr. Is a great kid who really loved this bike...enjoy Ken Jr.
Just a glorious sight and sound. I remember that well enough to have momentarily time travelled while watching. Now I must cry...
That rotax rotary valve 2 stroke is no joke
