Some suggestions here:) 1. Use green onions rather than yellow onions. Saute the chopped green onion in oil on LOW (it easily burns) heat until soft and fragrant then add kimchi - it'll create much better flavor and fragrance. 2. If your kimchi is TOO fermented, add half a teaspoon or so of sugar when you are sauteing the kimchi - it'll balance out the sourness. 3. If your kimchi is not red enough, add half a teaspoon or so of gochugaru (Korean red pepper flakes) for some color. Don't add too much as it can easily get too spicy. 4. Instead of soy sauce, try using oyster sauce. It'll give you better flavor:) Personally, spam is always the way to go with a crispy, fried egg but you can put in whatever you want and customize it. Enjoy! Add.) If you like seaweed (those seasoned, rectangle seaweed that us Asians eat with rice) either cut them up or shred them and mix with the fried rice. They go well together! You can also wrap the fried rice in seaweed and eat that way too:)
This is for leftovers so all this other stuff that you mention many people mostly won't have and won't want to go to the store to get it so that's why she made this video
Yum! Kids approved this video. My youngest said if she ever meets you she will let you know you’re the best cook! Update had all ingredients on hand so made this. It’s delish! And by some miracle 5 and 9 year olds also agreed!
When you talked about avocado and kimchi working so well together, it reminded me of seeing a video recently where someone made avocado toast with kimchi on top. I still haven’t done that...thanks for the reminder!
Made it today by myself and it was delicious 👍 I didn’t have day old rice, so I just cooked rice, but added less water so the result was slightly dry, but fully cooked rice. I added that to the pan and added a mixture of water and more kimchi juice to “rehydrate” the rice so it was nice and fluffy, but not mushy :) Hope this helps anyone who doesn’t have day-old rice too!
i just made this with spam and without sesame oil bc personally I'm not a huge fan of sesame oil but overall the dish was delicious!!! Thank you Dzung :D oh! and i added some chopped up kimchi radish i had too! adds another texture to the dish.
We always have kimchi in our fridge, too! If it's old then we make Kimchi fried rice or Kimchi-jigae. AND I AGREE ON THE OLD RICE OMG. Better for fried rice! ❤❤❤
I discovered kimchi fried rice a few months back and have been obsessed. My last batch, I chopped Brussel sprouts and red radish since I happened to have those on hand and it turned out delicious! I amp mine up with extra red pepper paste 😋 I love how versatile it is!
I finally tried it and it was REALLY amazing. Soft-boiled egg is a good tip to get a creamy texture instead of a sad dry rice (even though without the egg your recipe already gives a nice and soft rice) . I need to challenge myself and make my own kimchi next time !
I make vegan cashew cream mushroom Alfredo. It is honestly so so so so so so soooooooooo delicious. It’s a healthier twist on my favorite food growing up, so I’m pretty stoked about that.
Wow, your kimchi fried noodle recipe was the very first recipe of yours that I made, and I made it so many times for weeks after that! I'm so excited to recreate this recipe now too!! Thank you for feeding this college student with easy and delicious recipes :)
Aaaah!!! We love both repurposed leftovers AND fried rice, but I’ve never used kimchi! This looks fabulous. Bonus points for a recipe that involves a soft boiled egg. My family will love - Thank you!
I love your recipes and cheerful approach to cooking! Heads-up, though. It's time to replace the nonstick cookware due to health concerns with PFOA-PFOS chemicals. Cast iron is a good alternative.
I love kimchi I'm just afraid of which ones to buy in the store because some of them may have a lot of sodium in it. But I saw some recipes online where I could possibly make it myself. this is a great idea. I would substitute the rice unless it's brown today alright with cauliflower rice and I top it one time with the egg like you did and then the next time I would top it with avocado I love avocado is such a great fat. You're the best your baby is just adorable....
I haven't tried Kimchi before and an excited to try this fried rice recipe. Question. your recipe calls for kimchi and kimchi juice. Is that two separate products to purchase or do you strain the juice from the kimchi jar?
My usual go-to when I have no ideas and no time and am doing a few days on bachelor status when the wife is away on business is usually two tins of sardines, a half a fresh baguette or a couple fresh large sourdough rolls, a hunk of cheese (usually Emmentaller), and a bottle of wine. If I have a little more time (ie not getting home from work past 10), I will make a garlic and oil pasta with sardines or maybe a quick Carbonara, steamed broccoli, cauliflower, and edamame, and the wine. Sometimes it's just stopping at the supermarket for a $5 rotisserie chicken for the main which ends up being 3 meals - the dark meat, the white meat the next day in some pasta or stir-fry over rice the next day, and then on the weekend my wife makes a heavenly chicken soup using the bones and residual meat hanging from them. Whenever I am away on business she usually does some cottage cheese, fruit, and her favorite fiber cereal. When we are together I am easily talked into doing up a couple porterhouse steaks in my secret marinade or my "kitchen sink" spinach salads with pretty much everything: beets, white and red kidney beans, edamame, snap peas, baby carrots, broccoli, cucumber, celery, a little chopped tofu, sprouts, mandarin orange sections, peas, artichoke hearts, a poppy seed vinaigrette for her and blue cheese for me. The salads are quick and really filling!
All your meals sound amazing! Sometimes cheese, bread, and wine is all you need! The meals with your wife sounds like the perfect date night food!!! Yummmmmm!!!!
Does kimchi go bad? How do I know if my kimchi is just not expired or past edible stage? I tend to throw it out with it has a really strong yeast-like/alcohol odor.
Cat T nope kimchi don't go bad but the longer you keep it the more it ferment and sour in taste. It is hard for kimchi to go bad unless you keep it the wrong way. You have to keep the kimchi under it's juices and don't let it expose above the kimchi juice as this will make it bad and turn into bitter in taste. What I do is put a plastic cling wrap on top of the kimchi then press it down so it submerged in the juices before closing the air tight container.
kimchi rarely goes bad but it can have fungus when it gets into contact with saliva/other foods or when it's exposed to oxygen for too long:) The fungus isn't bad for you. You can remove the part with fungus and the rest of the kimchi should be fine to enjoy.
I love making kimchi fried rice! I can't peel a soft boiled egg to save my life though. No matter how careful I am, I always break it before it is completely peeled.
Ahhh I know what you mean! Steaming it seems to be the easiest way for me. My mom told me the other day to cool on salt water and that works for her too. I haven’t tried it yet but I’ll let you know.
In addition to what Camille B stated, there are some varieties of kimchi that that aren't spicy at all (the chilies that are commonly associated with it are a new world crop after all, and prior to it's introduction into Korean culinary culture kimchi would have been made without it). This youtuber has some really good example of how varied kimch can be: th-cam.com/users/Maangchi
I have the perfect idea: a chicken dinner with Mac and cheese with green beans. Here’s the link: 1 Hour CHICKEN DINNER with Sides - th-cam.com/video/07nmXOe94dQ/w-d-xo.html
Thumbs up & comment for KIMCHI! Let's get this video to 2,000 likes! xoxo
I really like your videos! However I just suggest that if you could also post how many servings is the recipe, it would be great. Thanks sooo much!

It's called left over for a reason
This is for leftovers so all this other stuff that you mention many people mostly won't have and won't want to go to the store to get it so that's why she made this video
Which is why I said "suggestions" rather than "must-haves!" If you have them on hand, use them! If not, don't! :)
Thanks for this! Anything is good. I'm sure Honey appreciate it too
Easy and awesome! Kid-friendly-used bacon 🥓, added finely diced carrots, and scrambled the egg into the fried rice cuz what kiddo prefers.
Putting my pic on IG

Yasss thought I was the only one who liked avocado and kimchi together! Such a good combo
When you talked about avocado and kimchi working so well together, it reminded me of seeing a video recently where someone made avocado toast with kimchi on top. I still haven’t done that...thanks for the reminder!

Have you considered deep-frying the egg like it's done on a thai-holy-basil?
Oooh I love kimchi and I am gonna try your version. This looks delicious.
I'm loving your recipes.
This is quite a luxury leftover-twist but I love it.

Yehey to more budget friendly recipes! 😀
Your videos are just so creative and have an amazing day !!!
"I love sesame oil in fried rice" that sesame oil comment 100% gave me flashbacks to your bibimbap video with Donal with like 4 tbsp of sesame oil 😂
yesss! sesame oil in fried rice!!
I'll try it when my family buys kimchi the next time. Currently, the fridge doesn't have any 😅😂. Thank you for posting.
Please make a bibmbap video 🙏 #craving
Imo bacon is the best combo for kinchi fried rice, trust me lol. Spam next. Then maybe hot dogs. Then rest is all equivalent to me after that lol
How long will kimchi fried rice prepared like this keep in the fridge? 2-3 days, or less?
Up to 3 days!
I haven't tried Kimchi before and an excited to try this fried rice recipe. Question. your recipe calls for kimchi and kimchi juice. Is that two separate products to purchase or do you strain the juice from the kimchi jar?
Just strain the juice from the jar! ☺️

I am kimchi excited....😜
Can you make homemade kimchi? I think it'd be super awesome to see the process!
she has that recipe!!, look for: honeysuckle kimchi
This looks so good! I might have to buy kimchi just for this recipe ;)
This looks so easy! I thought this was going to be way hard 😂
That would have been one serving for me HAHAHHA
Hahahah yessss
Leftover fried fish or dried fish sautéed in garlic, onions and tomatoes!
I make this also when I am not sure what to make! It's good even without the meat! :)
It’s so comforting!!
what kind of kimchi do you buy?
I like the one from hmart with the hanbok girl. I dunno the korean translation for it!! Sorry!!
Do you have to wait until the kimchi gets sour??
It usually takes a few weeks but fresher kimchi works too! It’s just not as sour
Honeysuckle Okay, cool! Thank you!
That look yum. I would definitely it out.
Finally!!! Omgggg 😍
Wow for some reason I thought it would have some sugar because of the sourness of the kimchi.
omg yumm!!
Yummy 😋
did anyone read the title in Jhope’s voice 😂😂😂
MyRudeTae I do....
Hey ARMYYYY!!!!! ❤️
Holy shiteu I thought I was the only one.
What I cook depends entirely on what I have available to me, and sometime the results are not always that great.
Does cooking the kimchi destroy the probiotics?
It does but this is moreso for the flavor and to use it up . :)
It has to be simple but romantic
Your videos are so cute
Is the kimchi spicy??
depends the kimchi you buy. traditionally it is supposed to be a bit spicy but if you buy at a western store they usually make it less spicy

I have the perfect idea: a chicken dinner with Mac and cheese with green beans. Here’s the link: 1 Hour CHICKEN DINNER with Sides - th-cam.com/video/07nmXOe94dQ/w-d-xo.html
Or this baked chicken parm that is even easier : 30 Min Meal - Baked Chicken Parm Dinner with Sides 🍗 th-cam.com/video/FuwmcXNuLGA/w-d-xo.html
Let me know how it goes and what you end up making!! ❤️❤️
My mom is also allergic to shellfish and my dad doesn't like exotic stuff
This recipe has no taste! No garlic ginger salt nothing! I made it today and I was sad that it turned out so blend
Jigna Patel there’s already a lot of sodium in other ingredients like soy sauce...
What’s not vegan about kimchi? 🤔
1stepcl0ser we usually put tiny shrimp or fish oil in kimchi :)
t rex i see :) thx
original kimchi has fish sauce made from anchovy
