  • This review shows the diferences between a JMI Tone Bender MKII with OC75 germanium transistors and a JMI Tone Bender MKII with OC81D Germanium transistors.
We can note that the OC75 sounds more Heavy and the OC81D sound more like a Fuzz Overdrive.
With the volume pot roled Off, the OC81D shows a clean and juice sound. The MKII with the OC75, in the same test, sounds more dirt and fuzzy.
    Two lovely pedals!

Sounds good to me. Would be nice to have both transistors on a switch. One sounds better cleaned up and the other with the guitar maxed... Plus if you were to use humbuckers.
I don't need the fancy mix myself, although some people can't let go and need the box to feel like they're in era.
Personally, I'm not trying to go into the era. I'm trying to take it to the next era.

OC81 has a more pronounced low end. Its a bit muddier than the OD75, but a bit warmer. Both sound great.

Pro tip: you can watch series at flixzone. Me and my gf have been using them for watching a lot of movies during the lockdown.

Nice comparison video - Love that wild OC75 sound! Those look like vintage OC75 transistors and new production DSI OC81D transistors - correct?

I like the way the OC81D's clean up, But the OC75's on full volume sounded better in that rig. I like the OC81D's more on a les paul though.

You need a slightly overdriven amp to get a really good sound. In front of a clean amp it sounds "difficult".

Absolutely true. That makes them come alive. Clean amps and fuzz don’t mix unless the “ clean tone “‘ is Marshall plexi’s or JTM 45’ stacks cranked up without any overdrive or fuzz in front of it and then that volume will push the fuzz exactly where it needs to go.

Neither are real versions of the transistor. They use modern Chinese made oc81d’s that are much lower in HFE and leakage and sound like shit. The OC75’s are bought from Langrex in the UK and are also modern made versions. The codes stamps are wrong and the actual tone isn’t as good either but they sell 50 pcs for $500CND So people buy them up

Both have knockoff transistors. So you’re paying for what? A really nice looking case.
And aren’t these built by the same dudes that do British Pedal Company? A shady lot...

Danny Skrims yeah let the people know it's all some shady Bullshit. If you're in the U.K. Stick to dam. Pig dog, Ghost effects. Or in USA can't go wrong with Acid Fuzz or Creepy Fingers.

@@PedalScience Pretty much every oc81d I've seen the last 3 years were fake. The imprint is usually the first clue, then the tone. The knockoffs are less consistent, stable.

JMI uses modern reproduction transistors. Likely Chinese. Look at that shitty pixelated printing on the OC75! For the same price you can buy a TB from a reputable seller using legitimate new old stock parts.
JMI/British Pedal Company are shady as shit. Do a lil google search on em...
