I wanted to give a big thanks for this video. I was feeling a little dried out on my scale moves and I was really looking to break out of my comfort zone. I've been working on these string skipping techniques and out-of-order legato techniques for about 3 weeks now. Its been a huge help in looking at my movements in a new light. Its really helpful to me to learn new finger work with extended pentatonics and then, afterwards, apply them to scales I already now. It seems to work well
Ive been teaching myself guitar since i was 5, and it wasnt until recently that I heard of you and learned so much. The shredding video you have gave me chills for a week. Love your sound and technique, keep the videos comming! As a matter of fact I just watched it again, I cant get enough of that sound. haha
I've been playing a long time & music has put a roof over my head , I know my theory & im very proficient in most styles . But the way you approach guitar & theory is so refreshing. How your not a house hold name is beyond me. But my favourite guitarist of all time is Allan Holdsworth I'm sure he's been a big influence on you , his music is so advanced it sounds like he's just playing any note without thought to most people, even other " " "guitarist's " which was not the case at all. You are so good man, I subscribed to your channel immediately after seeing you ( hearing you ) too many guitarists listen with their eyes & not their ears . Great stuff, looking forward to watching your vids. Amazing .
How lucky to have found you. Looking for pentatonic scales I came across this mine of techniques. The one with the middle finger left me like crazy and especially the technique he uses of "silencing". It cost me to discover it but it is great, I would never have imagined it
A phenomenal way of playing a string of four tones.👌 This way of playing the guitar provides more opportunities for solo sections to be more complete, more varied.Thank you for your useful guitar 🎸skills.Which is good for us guitarists, let's play everything from blues, metal, rock, jazz ... to classical playing
I've been playing for about ten days now. Your more complete petatonic trick🎸🎸🎸. With the fourth tone in the scale. It's not so easy to play like that, my finger hurts. But that style of more complete guitar playing is phenomenally good.👍👍👍Just keep going in 2022 in health and luck to record useful guitar tricks.
These are some of the patterns I have been trying to get my head around for ages...... Today is a good day. Just bought the vids and cannot wait to jump in.... Great work Rick!!!
Rick Graham! Maestro, you have been making me miserable lately! ( legato exercises) ....I'm so very grateful for your teachings. Thank you again. Cheers! 🙏 😊
Thanks Rick I have been trying to transition to legato playing with the use of pentatonic scales. I haven’t used this two position scale before. I hope i can get those licks down over the next two or so weeks with some really solid practicing. Appreciate your time, advice and excellent playing, Regards from Australia.
Brilliant vid - Rick, I really appreciate your content. I've spent hours going through your exercises, examples and suggestions to try and break out of my pentatonic rut. It's working!
1:51.... you just gave me a creepy de ja vu moment! I think, however, I might try some of these legato LICKS. I need to break out of my 3 note scale crap.
Maybe this is a dumb question but what would be some benefits in learning hybrid picking? You mentioned you could do it regular pick style but I was just kind of curious if anyone could give me so feedback? Thanks! Amazing video!
Miguel Camarena It’s just another technique to use. If all you can do is alternate pick you are limiting yourself. Learn to alternate pick, legato (limited picking), economy pick, hybrid pick, sweep rtx
My my my, these are cool as hell Rick! Day 2 is much better than yesterday. Still a bit choppy, but as I slow down , the improvement in fluidity appears immediately! Excited to start practicing again... been a long time.
Adidas must be happy! Joking aside, I use those shapes a lot when shredding. Sounds kinda fusion style now instead with your playing, have to give it a try! Cool tips!
Last example is so cool its like playing diatonic 7th arpeggios of major scale same idea but here we have three notes per string with extended pentatonic many three string sweeps can be found with this idea sweeps are stretchy but im sure gonna sound awesome
Whats up Rick, thanks for the video. Im in the market for a guitar for this type of playing; lead, instrumental, Satriani, improv stuff. Looking mostly at a PRS se custom 24 and some midrange fender teles. What are your thoughts? I know you're a big Fender fan, but have you ever played a PRS, and what do you think of them? Thanks!
Rick Graham i must tell you Rick, I've got your solo part in Envision with Poliphia , named The Special. Enjoy it big time and listen to it in my special moments :) thank you
Some of the little runs you throw in after the lick your teaching are the ones I'm trying to figure out haha! Do a lesson on the miscellaneous for me please haha.........

I love watching you slowly explain parts, because you lash out and shred immediately after haha like your hands are getting frustrated playing so slow
When Rick graham shreds it looks like sooo effortless
It is, after 1 month it must've gotten easier, it's really easy to do this faster.
One problem, my picking style xD
I keep coming back to this video every few years! 🔥🔥
The moment that you understand that next 9 minutes will be awesome!
