It was interesting to see Wilbur's story. He was a cousin to my husband's grandma. Family pride.

For many, many years I've been in awe of this fine gentleman, superstar racing car driver with the movie star good looks (compare to a publicity photos of Clark Gable.) It is mentioned in this comment section that Wilbur Shaw is the most important man in Speedway history. It was Wilbur who found and encouraged the Great Anton Hulman Jr. to purchase and restore this most hallowed of racing tracks in the world and Wilbur would sheppard Mr. Hulman to guide him as the "Man Who Saved the Indianapolis Motor Speedway." If our country was made up of more people with the character of Wilbur Shaw, America would be a better place for it. Thank you for this wonderful tribute to such a great man!

Wilbur Shaw was my grandpas favorite driver but when he died in 1954 he’s never watched anymore racing after that

The most important man in the history of the Speedway. It's because of Wilbur that Tony bought it, it's by Wilbur's methods that Tony later ran it, and it's by his strategic methods, when people follow them, that the Speedway can, even today, get stronger every year.
Without Warren Wilbur Shaw, there would be no Greatest Spectacle in Racing, a phrase invented during his stewardship.

I guess Wilbur Shaw and Pat O'Conner are both in the same cemetery in Vernon Indiana. I rode my motorcycle up there and searched around for their graves buy didn't have any luck.
