- In this History of WoW video, we’ll be going over the History and various appearances of the Druid Cat Form. This shapeshifting form is most associated with the Feral specialization, although any Druid can transform into a Cat.

One little funny thing I remember about playing Feral in Shadowlands, is that the necklace Charm of Eternal Winter that drops off of Huntsman Altimor (Second boss of Castle Nathria) was able to charm cat formed druid players for 5 minutes out in the open world. It didn't matter if it was your faction or an enemy faction, the necklace was also an instant use item. You could just be walking around doing world quests and then suddenly becomes someones lapcat for 5 minutes out of nowhere. The item was quickly patched, but it was really confusing at first when it first happened to me. One of the best memories I have of shadowlands.
Says a lot about Shadowlands when the best memory is an annoying bug 😆

one thing you forgot to mention was that the mana to shift into cat form was actually a pretty big deal in Vanilla and Burning crusade due to cat shifting in and out with wolfshead helm to get energy!
Yeah, powershifting. Although feral theorycrafting had years to evolve for Classic. Not so much in Vanilla and BC. Used EJ religiously in BC.
One addition is that cat's grace combined with barkskin would make you immune to death by fall damage in Vanilla.

4:44 I was the first druid on my realm that got firekitty. That was a memorable weekend doing battlegrounds, got so many kills because people would stop to check out why I was on fire lol

Unfortunately I did not play during Legion and I really miss the cool Werebear and Cat forms from Magetower. I really wish they would add some new forms for Boomkins too. Like the Arakoas form (we have a toy that does that) or like the Kyrian Stewarts.

Just so you know. the legion cat appearances are still available to obtain none of them are locked accept for the Mage tower one but mage tower is locked for every class that didnt do it during legion. outside of that u can obtain all the other color kitty forms just as long as u do what is needed which the longest and probably most annoying is the Balance of Power one.

My only gripes about Cat Form are cosmetic in nature. I think the art team at Blizzard got too attached to that particular model when creating new Druid race's "cat forms". Once they introduced Worgen Druids they missed out on the opportunity to make more thematic models instead of the same cat form look. I assumed that they would have them turn into wolves since they have so many models. Additionally I assumed that when they introduced Troll Druids (both Darkspear & Zandalari) they would give them access to Raptor/Dinosaur forms. I'm also surprised that they never introduced a glyph of some type that allows Druids to shift into the MULTITUDE of other cat models available in the game. All the movements are the same, so what's so hard about it?
Bro, you should make a video list of "Niche quests" or "Quests you never read" something along those lines.
After playing on Vanilla classic and actually reading the quests, I realize I have missed out on a big CHUNK of good World of Warcraft world building...
Anyways, with your voice, it would just be perfect to listen to you explain quests and the lore behind the quests.
I hope they bring back the saberon form in the barbershop customization, much like how they had the more anthro looking bear form from legion as an option for bear druids.

During Cata when a lot of old Dungeons got revamped the new 1st Boss of Shadowfang Keep dealt more damage to Troll Druids because of their "Beast Slayer" passive😊
honestly they better be adding saberons as playable race at some points. i mean if im not mistaken at the end of the mag'har orc unlock quest a bunch of draenor widlife _including saberon_ made off into the barrens which would lend itself to a barrens revamp, i would imagine the saberon would actually cause havok on the quillboar population which would make them liked by orcs and tauren alike so its very reasonable that they might join the horde one day

alliance could get fish people, either yinju from MOP or the guys from bfa what was their name "ankoan waveblades"? i mean there are tons of races with allied race potential for the alliance, like vrykul though personality wise they seem more like a horde race
While shapeshifted (mana bar hidden), the cat/bear druids couldn't be mana burned. However, while labeled as "beast", hunters could use "Scare Beast" or any engineer using the scare beast explosives (vanilla, goblin engineer boss in Maraudon) would cause them to run around. In BC or LK, you had talents that reduced the cost of shifting or allowed some mana regen + when you dealt a critical hit, you gained 4%~ mana.
I was a bear in the beginning of mop and tanked in Heart of Fear. The first boss always mindcontrolled some players. Tanks were immune, but somehow the boss often chose a hunter to mindcontrol which then casted Scare Beast, which had no cd. It was always a wipe and so annoying. In the end we were better off leaving the hunter outside for the first boss and killing the boss with 9 raiders.
Pretty sure the original incarnation (all the way up to WoD) would let you go back into stealth as much times as you wanted. They changed it around legion to be a 1 time stealth only iirc.

You're still my favorite youtuber even though you don't believe that like on your livestream lol. I would love if you covered the history of "weaving" for druids where they would weave in different shapeshifts in their rotation but it may be too specific for your channel.
Fun fact: Until MoP, the 'Feral' specialization actually included both Cat (damage) AND Bear (tank) forms
Meow meow, love cat form, so convenient in movement, stealth and fun with the bleeds, loved primal wrath in BFA but sad I just missed the fancy mage tower skins, I like the purple M+15 cat form though
Scare Beast from Hunters did/does work on Druid in Animal forms tho
Power shifting and the wolfshead helm feels a bit too important to not take note of. It was such a fun part of my classic leveling experience and allowed me to deal similar damage to my mage and warlock friends while doing dungeons.

Good video but the MoP bit about Incarnation is wrong. The Incarnation described is the modern version, and the picture shows a Legion artefact form.
The image you included for the incarnation cat form is not the incarn cat form but rather a legion artifact cat form fyi.
Worgen needing to shapeshift to be feral druids never made sense.
You literally shift into a wolf with claws and fur and fangs already and can run/sprint as a wolf.

Hunters can use Beast Lore on feral Druids, you could also tame them (unintentionally) with an item from shadowlands that tamed a beast.
Also the information about the MoP King of the jungle talent is wrong, both for the talent and the image shown. Each cat form in the game at the time also had an armoured form when using that talent. (Except for fire cat, which has an armoured model but the player cannot use it)
Some other things that were missed: Scare beast and other things that effect beasts was also useable on cat-formed Druids, which was neat in PvP since they are immune to polymorph.

Funny thing i foudn that seedpouch in firelands on a priest more then a month before Blizzard made a blue post about it, i searched for hours to see what it was to only never see it drop again. And also just unlocking the toyfor my druid when ever they actually announced it beeing in the game.

@@Vinzenzx no mop enabled usage of stealth abilties such as pounce and ravage outside stealth and unlimited prowl usage and 50% reduced cost on abilties (might be 30 idk) and incrased the energy pool they reworked berserk at the end of bfa and made it refund points and incrased thr combo point generation (no more cheap spells) and with this rework it was basically incarn because it also made them hit as though stealthed but incarn gave it cost reduction and incrased energy however you wouldnt pick incarn because it wasnt worth it over soul of the forest and incarn was a shit spell for pve for a long while untill the end of shadowlands

I wish i experienced druid in wod. Sounds like it was broken having all these tools in cat form. Plus it looked cool they really should bring this form Back. I hate it when they remove spells you were able to use before
Why did the fall damage cat reduction appear so late?
Not late at all, the first appearance was on TBC but instead of a flat damage reduction, cat form actually had natural slow fall, so you needed to be aware when jumping from cliffs as you couldnt steer to the sides and would fall to the direction you jumped until you hit the ground, unscathed

before DF or SL got introduced, i spent about 2-3 years trying to farm Firelands toy on 3 druids, didn't see it once, a friend of mine did it 5 times and got it, thank fuck they did so people can just go to the barbershop to use the Firelands appearance.

I really wish they'd add back the Claws of Shirvallah form. Especially since druids can change their forms at the barber shop, and they already have a were-bear form so why not were-cat?
And Blizzard's justification for removing it in the first place, as well as removing the Observer form for the felpuppy from Warlocks, being "we want to have identifiable sillouettes" makes no sense. They added were-bears, and also the heritage armor sets mostly break that argument too. Think that Dark Iron over there is a Warrior? Nope, it's a Mage in full plate. Think that Nightborne over there is a Mage? Nope, they're a Warrior in full cloth.
It's because they want to get as far away from WoD as possible. Sad, tho, since WoD had arguably the best class design, and definitely some of the best raid design.

I played WoW September 2004/December 2006, when I quit WoW, Summon Treants was brand new. I quit WoW because I had 75,000 HK Balance Resto AV, I couldn't go on farming Honor.
It is a crime that cosmetic features are removed to artificially increase its rarity.

The incarnation part is completely wrong first of all it wasnt avatar of ashamane it was king of the jungle second of all it was UNLIMITED prowl usage (except for prowls own cooldown) for the duration AND allowed usage of stealth abilties such as ravage and pounce and the armor was made of woods not metal or spike the one shown in the video is artifact appearance added in legion and so is the blood effect and also the effects you read were added in partly shadowlands and completely in dragonflight also pieces of the incarn you read is a set bonus and a legendary item from the past
Also all specs had incarnation in mop and in legion they only changed their names a bit like guardian got changed into guardian of ursoc rather than son of ursoc but they didnt touch the name of king of the jungle untill dragonflight also the king of the jungle pvp talent is a throwback to old king of the jungle talent that is why it is named the same and the effect you read was the changed and nerfed version of king of the jungle talent
And also you said hunters cannot tame them even though they are classified as beast but that doesnt keep hunters from being able use scare beast abilty to fear druids in cat form (also hibernate worked and works on them aswell)
Also for the longest time cat and bear druids were immune to sap since it only worked on humanoids, until they changed that and i dont remember when
Hiru puts in so much more effort than most "content creators" who just read the latest patch notes from Wowhead with a bit of commentary here and there.
I can't even imagine the work to make a video like this. Between the research, script and video editing, it is beyond me.
Hope we finally get the Shirvallah cosmetic on the barber shop at some point.. 😭
