You’ve definitely gotten better at making videos. This video, like all your videos, is super informative. Broken down and organized and not rushed. Happy to see your channel, as well as you, grow.
there's always ways to cut costs back for a 2nd timer, eg: find a mx5/miata with a blown motor with a reasonable body complete for what 500-1000 gut the driveline sell it off for spares, find a wrecked ls1 (5.7) camaro or something surely they could be had for around 1-2k (we can find wrecked ls1 commodores here in aus for 1k easy with t56 m80 diff decent brakes etc.) gut all the stuff u want/need engine, trans, diff, driveshafts, brakes, harness, ecu, sell off any useful parts u don't want/need then send what evers left to scrap, forget fancy paint jobs (though it looks cool but unnecessary) pick a colour u like or just use the factory colour and learn how to panel beat if necessary and learn to use a spray gun, forget fancy fabbed exhausts and old shop can make a suitable exhaust lol realistically and with a bit of patience and forethought and doing 95-99% of the work yourself u could get it down to 15k ish total for the whole car. :D
looked at doing ls1 swap on a 92 holden commodore I had a few yrs ago and was looking at 7k total for the whole swap, but it's a lot easier on them as they came factory with a 5L v8, all u need is engine mounts, trans mount, starter relocation kit to lhs to clear steering rack, a modded harness, bcm delete in ecu, drive shaft (well just the front part can use stock rear section) a forward facing sump, rad and that's pretty much it, 7k whole swap + 3k for the rest of the car, total of 10k on whole car but was purely going to be a burnout car so could get away with a lot of factory stuff like diff, latter model factory brakes, suspension mostly apart from springs n shocks maybe , even use a stock v8 radiator lol if it can cool a cast iron 5L an aluminium ls is gonna be fine lol twin thermos off a falcon , never discount factory parts they can be quite effective lol :D
I did my 1986 FC Rx7 for around 15k. Most of it was self built with the exception of the Granny's speed shop LS kit. 2000 LS1/4L60e, 8.8 Ford IRS swap. Car went 12.0 in the 1/4, topped out around 165MPH, still handled like the original stock set up, and if I just drove it normal, it would get around 29 MPG on the interstate at 80 MPH cruising. I upgraded everything to a T2 where I could, poly bushings all aorund, big brakes, True dual exhaust with custom headers with cats , X pipe and bullet mufflers. 3 years in the build, 5 years of wicked driving, and sold it in 2010 for 6500 cash. Not bad if I do say so myself. I miss it? Yes! would I do it again? Yes, but for half the price.

a long.. Time ago I helped with the first Bullet SuperCars v8 Mx5 they were building. (Australian Company). The car was based on the Mx5 (Miata) full tube frame, with flip a front. I made the CNC machined billet intermediate bell housing adaptor plate to mate the supercharged Lexus v8 to 6 speed manual trans conversion. It also Also had a hydraulic clutch. The adaptor plate & clutch setup was Very similar to your GM Ls1 to Nissan 350z manual trans conversion. I still have the blueprint packed away somewhere.
I'm in the process of putting a 5.3 iron block out of an 02 suburban into my z32 300zx. This build has been a huge inspiration to me and its helped me keep motivated on my build. Thank you Taylor!
I can attest the z32 trans holds up well to a 400whp LS.. mines in a Volvo 240 with ford 8.8 with mecloud 6 puck holds like a champ. The summit 8707 cam in the lm7 is like driving a twin engine Honda lol. Power to redline with plenty of tq. Little bit of a dog under 3k tho..

Here’s my two cents. Yes ls parts are available everywhere but the laundry list of parts you need to buy is crazy long by the time your done I feel like you could have fully built a sr or Kat for like 600hp. The ls seems to make sense when it comes to service but the road you have to take to get there is crazy long and expensive. The swap literally nickel and dimes you to death. Hats off to anyone running a solid ls swap but the numbers just don’t add up for me. Very informative video. Keep up the good work Taylor!!!! 😎😎😎👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Great video! $600 Aluminum 5.3 LM4 swap motor here, $700 E36 chassis. $20k in parts and it's still not done. Exact same thoughts about accessories and piecing together the drivetrain. Great LS deal for a cheap replacement long block though.
Definitely can relate to all this, just did an LS in my r32 and went $4k over budget and spent over $10k to do the swap and do everything properly and how i wanted, nearly $30k into the car now how it sits..
I'm so glad you went over budget, it actually works out cheaper and less time consuming in the end as you know you'd have built it to the 10k spec then in 6 months time you would be spending the extra to get it to the spec it is now.
Well done, video and car. So very helpful to anyone considering an LS swap. Loved and admired all you did, I've had several old school V8 muscle cars. This type of build is definitely the heir to the AC Cobra. But now I know it's not for me. While I'm not happy with my 1.8 NA performance, I don't want the maintenance and reliability and performance quirks of a turbo or SC. And now decided I don't want to go all the way to a V8 rumble and muscle car engine sound and traits in my Miata (I prefer the v8 in a Corvette). I just concluded I want a V6 in my MX5, though I may have to go with an NB for clearance limits. I think an aluminum v6 makes plenty of power in an MX5, and I prefer to hear that sound out of it. Kinda like I don't have 18 wheeler horns on my sports cars, haha. Great car, perfect for you, would love to see it in person some day. Kudos.

So guess I didn't do to bad buying one already built with cammed gen 3 with gen 4 pan, summit 8707, pac 1219 springs, brt pushrods and trunion, msd coils, headers, full black widow custom SS exhaust, tbss, 92mm tb, ford 8.8 with 3.73 with spool, and z32 tt 5spd trans with mecloud 6 puck for just under 10k...
Another way to keep down the cost on piecing together a motor is going to the junkyard to grab any nut, bolt, misc pieces if the junkyard has something with an LS in it.
i found this video a little bit ago and i really wanna build a car i love cars so much and i found this and thought maybe i could do this LS seems simple and doable and seeing this break down makes me feel great this actually seems realistic and i think im gonna try to build a miata like this dude i wanna try
i want to do a e30 with a 4.8. Obviously with heads, headers, cam & springs, rocker arms and intake manifold. So basically every things done but the pistons and crank
Yes and no. You would probably be more than that into it with the cage. Bigger heavier car so worse power to weight and will go through tires quicker and need bigger tires. But they’re basically a Miata suspension wise and come with the ls swap so you can’t really argue with them.
Just a decent "FD legal" rollcage costs around 3000$. So a C5 in good track ready condition with this mods, spare wheels and tyres will be around 20000$ easily.
@@ModiFiClassics That is the bottom of the market, I said "good track ready condition", a proper dialed-in car is never cheap, always costs more than you think.

I know you said it's a drift car but you have it street legal, my question is do you insure the car at its value or do you just run regular coverage? I am extremely curious to know how much it would cost monthly to carry $20,000 of after market parts coverage on a car. How I lost my white 92 sbc carb 350, T-5 Miata was by an uninsured driver hitting me and I only got $2100 for the parts out of the car cause I only had state minimum liability coverage. I bought a 96 red 1.8L after with 36,000 miles and got hit a year later by a full size truck in Dallas and that time the driver had insurance but I only got like $3500 at that point. So it makes me wonder what you would get paid if hit and not carrying after market parts coverage. Something to think about if you haven't already.
Do you think it would be around the same price to this swap on a nd2 Miata if not why thank you for the information and giving us a sheet with all the specifics it really helps!
Luke Sniekers im legit intrigued by this bc mcm does some cool projects and i thought those were legal? what processes happen that would prevent an ls miata from being legal?
Would you say an LS Swapped Miata would make a decent first car? My budget in total is 15K. Was thinking of a supercharged V6 mustang but this seems so much better. Considering the insurance coast would be cheap, tires cheap, and engine parts fairly common it makes sense on paper.
the square gauges you used where did you get them and what is needed to install them, I like the set up and want to do something with those gauges for my speed 6
I have watched every video and even considered trying an LS swap myself BUT, at this price plus the labor you're looking at mid 2000s 911s money. I know which I would take personally.

So a C5 in good track ready condition with this mods, spare wheels and tyres will be around 20000$ easily.
krichd1 I see c5’s for around 8k so it’s doable for 12-15
@@ModiFiClassics That is the bottom of the market, I said "good track ready condition", a proper dialed-in car is never cheap, always costs more than you think.
krichd1 depends on where you live in ca that’s about average and a bit more would be about 10-11k
I watched the first clip, saw the trees and the roads and said “this dudes in Florida, has to be a southern state at least” and of course i check and you’re in Otown! Haha hope i see you on the roads sometime, i drive a 99 NB and just found your page when i searched “LS swapped miata” on google
Would an LS fit better without all the accessory mods necessary for the truck engine?
What is the MPG for a car like this? If it were to be driven conservatively?
I would like to do a ford 5.0 in a miata and a halion twin turbo just to make a crazy car insane
Factory LS P59 ecu is flex fuel capable and easy to learn how to tune. Also not expensive and extremely reliable.
which camaro drivetrain are you talking about i’m thinking about doing an ls swap here shortly??
I saw a ls1 for 750 on facebook yesterday and a drift/drag miata shell no engine or trany for 1200 it just feels too good to be true n yea the ls1 def gonna need to be rebuilt
Hey man I’m 19 and own a Toyota hilux and thinkin of doing a ls2 swap, however isn’t it more pricey as u need to upgrade the diff, trans, brakes etc ?? Cheers 👍👍
For the tach and speedo check out speedhut gauges
Please make a video called “A Day in the Life of Sandy” haha. She’s the real MVP!
WARR who makes the throttle body is located in my town. They take the ebay ones and machine and modify the throttle bodys so that they work and seal good while still keeping a low cost. Super cool dudes
I’m looking at swapping my Miata, I have an LS3 off a Camaro. Can you help me out with your parts list and maybe vendors?
Hey bro you should put a small wet shot of nitrous once you get use to drifting the new setup. it would be a good advantage without taking it to far
Could you put a 1jz or is the engine to big for the engine bay
Nothing really like seeing a 4 bangar car show up with a v8 rumble!
Does it keep the fun factor? Because the miatas is so fun with the short, sporty shifting.
I’m not really into the idea of drifting I like watching but that’s about it would it be cheaper to ls swap a c5 if you just wanna go in a straight line
10:54 I looked around the room for my cat haha
Every time
Ok it's been a couple years , so glad I found your channel again...you moved into a house with a lift. .well multiple lifts ,awesome. ...what happened to the corvette and g35?....i watched like 4or5 vids straight haha....sure missed your work and sick drifting brotha
Really cool to see such a thorough breakdown and video to cover it. Earned my sub!
How does the PCM communicate with the engine? Is there a kit?
are u using power steering
How’s a Miata as a daily driver? And maintenance etc. I’ve always wanted one
Is the firewall flexing or is the dash loose?
26k is cheaper then a new miata and you have 320hp
You did good in my book
I remember the first V8 swap ever in a Miata. Road & Track magazine in the mid 90's. It was done EXTREMELY WELL.
Where do they get the money?
I absolutely loved this video have never seen a car enthusiast this cool keep it up 🤙🤙
Why does it make less HP with the cam swap than the stock 5.3??
I want to do a V6 swap and I'm very new to the hobby. Would the cost for a V6 swap be less then a V8 swap?
Seeing this video 2 years later, subbing because of the shop cat and the sick Miata.
How much to paint it and the roll cage?
Is there anyway to access links to all these parts??
Do you think it would be around the same price to this swap on a nd2 Miata if not why thank you for the information and giving us a sheet with all the specifics it really helps!
What about insurance?
They do not allow that kind of modifing
Where did you get trunion upgrade for $50.00
Taylor Ray vs CarPassionChannel at the drag strip?
Legit could never so something like this and still be legal in Australia
Luke Sniekers im legit intrigued by this bc mcm does some cool projects and i thought those were legal? what processes happen that would prevent an ls miata from being legal?
What about those burn out cars hennigan just posted a video of a street legal one
@@peebbuu mcm has a few videos explaining the difficult difficult times they've had with the Datsun swap making it street legal etc
our laws really suck some times. but im sure there have been a few legally engineered LS swapped MX5s around.
I live in aus and you can do this swap just have to get it engineered and will probably be required to put bigger brakes on it
Hello i want to swap the motor, what you recommend
5.3 liter and you are only getting 320hp... Did you turn the thing on ?
Would you say an LS Swapped Miata would make a decent first car? My budget in total is 15K. Was thinking of a supercharged V6 mustang but this seems so much better. Considering the insurance coast would be cheap, tires cheap, and engine parts fairly common it makes sense on paper.
How tall are you if you don’t mind me asking I’ve been wanting a Miata and I need to know if it is a good size
Not sure if anyone will see this but i'm new to cars. what is EVERYTHING needed to LS swap a stock miata in good condition
Would've loved to see the 5.0 swap bc i'm a ford guy haha and you don't see people swap those as much as LS's but stoked for you on how it turned out!
okay but how did u bolt ur back window in like that ?
I came here for the chat, I stayed for the cat. When are you taking him out for a ride?
the square gauges you used where did you get them and what is needed to install them, I like the set up and want to do something with those gauges for my speed 6
I have watched every video and even considered trying an LS swap myself BUT, at this price plus the labor you're looking at mid 2000s 911s money. I know which I would take personally.
Need need like a daily run around drive type vid. .....or get that dude in blue....
Actually yeah, I think David would love this.
After he fastens the speedo bezzel lol
Definitely. He would LOVE this. Garage built by fellow youtuber? Might bring Taylor some fresh viewers as well as tdib.
He sucks and is irrelevant
