40 Knots, it’s fresh without being fresh as most know it. The florals in here are so well blended that you won’t really know they’re there unless you’re looking for them (there’s Rose blended in there for example). I find they really add to the airy sea breeze feel (or accord?) to go with the sea water accord in this. Then I get a nice soft Amber on top of the woods. I know what you mean about having an accord of Enigma, but I find it is a bit more soapy due because of the unmentioned florals in here. It’s also softer and more ethereal, but still loud. It’s simply put one of the most versatile scents I have in my collection (probably around 300 frags now lol), and it’s done without being too far into one direction (not too much citrus, not too many darker notes, not to many florals). Just an extremely well balanced and blended fragrance. Yes it has a resemblance to Ambre Nuit, and Enigma, but only as a light accord. Very much in the affect that Amouage Reflection Man has an accord of Jean Paul Gaulthier’s Le Male, where you get a light shadow of the other fragrance in the composition, but it is very much a different/it’s own fragrance. Phenomenal quality, performance, and presentation. Love seeing the bonus Niche videos and thank you for that! Can’t wait for the next one.
Thanks for the review, sound great ! Also nice comparison so it's easier for me to understand what you mean. Can't wait to get my sample and maybe even a full bottle later :)
Hey Ash. To my nose I don't get the Enigma resemblance but regardless 40 Knots is a hidden gem among the JTC collection. It's a luxurious, softly sweet, semi aquatic, lightly salty, ambery beauty. It makes me feel like I put on a warm cashmere sweater. The kicker is how versatile it is. Quite a stunner. Great review. 👏.
Josh from Scentsense reviewed this one about two years ago. I’ve been wanting to explore this house for a while. Beautiful bottles and box presentations.
Great review Ash. As much as I love Xerjoff I have to say that I’m not a fan of the newer bottle design. I spoke to Xerjoff to ask why the change and was told it was to combat counterfeiting with the older bottle designs being too easy to copy. I guess that makes sense!
I got a sample of it and when I sprayed it I immediately thought Enigma. I thought I was the only one noticing the similarity. Sprayed 40 knots on one arm, Engima on the other, and it was eerily similar.
I have 40 Knots too and I am loving it but it’s not my favorite. I wish it’s salty aquatic vibe can last longer or all the way thru and I think the dry down is a little too aromatic for me. I have Enigma too but my nose cannot pick up much similarities.
On me this is definitely closer to Ambre Nuit than to Enigma. Pretty close to Ambre Nuit tbh, but surely fresher, more salty, less rosy. Smells amazing and completely year round wearable.
Wow!! Excellent Excellent scent. Just plain Beautiful....yet surprisingly versatile. Dosen't get much better than this. Feel lucky to have in my collection.
A xerjoff without the box. Sin! Neways I own this one and I'd describe the scent as the smell of the rusty metallic part of a yatch. It's blended well. Longevity upwards 7 hours plus. Though not my favourite in my collection. Seldom wear it.
40K [insert warhammer joke here] is now one of my top 3 Xerjoff warm weather frags. Nio, Uden and 40Knots are all at the front of the shelf these days. Naxos, Alexandria II and More Than Words queued up for the fall weather. Also ordered Starlight and can't wait. Xerjoff Top 10 List maybe?
Great fragrance it is the best of the JTC series imo. Such an Enigma-esque (roja) fragrance but so much more complex and less floral than enigma. I have 30 bottles of xerjoff. Crazy you mention same thing later in video. I mentioned enigma while I just started watching the video. Lol
As im testing enigma vs mobster I found my lost 40 knots sample the other day and tested it my mind is blown Mobster is better than enigma and 40 knots is very diff also awsome
@@AryxJG Absolutely right, I have both and Ambre nuit is more sensual and calm, whereas 40 Knots is louder and rougher, because of the wood. If you spray them on your wrist and compare them, you‘ll find big differences.
Hey ash. I don't think I've heard you talk about More Than Words by Xerjoff. You mentioned you love imaginary authors and MTW is based on a poetic vibe so I would imagine you would gravitate toward it or at least mention it. Have you tried it, what do you think about it if you have.
I don't spray a lot, I work from home and I don't go out often... Fragrances gets boring to me quickly and I love buying decatns. I just ordered 4 decants for this spring: 40 knots, Sauvage Elixir, Egoist Platinum and Hermes H24. What do you guys think of those 4?
I think its cool that they don't give you the notes because well I think anyone can review fragrances all they do is read the notes and just say for instance if there is a pineapple note or vanilla or any type of note there's nothing really much to it all you have to do is read the notes I don't see nothing hard about that. You can even review axe body spray and read the notes and it will sound interesting
Someone please tell me they also strongly dislike Alexandria II. I’m just trying it for the first time. Got a 10 ml. I am not liking its opening or dry down yet. But some scents do take time to grow on me
In this case, I'm the other way. I passed on Enigma, but I'll likely get a full bottle of 40 Knots. Xerjoff is one of my favorite houses. Two of my top five favorite fragrances are Xerjoff.
Exactly the price and if you’re going to use max aroma to buy It you’re not gonna save a dime I buy all my stuff from Fragrance Usa they don’t have everything but everything they have is usually in stock and about $100 cheaper than Max aroma
The price difference between max aroma and Fragrance Usa is almost $100 difference it’s almost $100 less at Fragrance Usa you’re never going to be Fragrance Usa
Fragranceusa.com, venbafragrance.com, fragrancebuy.ca, all have maxaroma, on everything by 100 bucks. His getting paid and a free bottle. He knows about fragrancebuy.ca, and Fragranceusa.com but they didnt pay him. You should check out venba. They're prices usually beat fragusa by 30-60, sometimes more. 100% legit

I bought 40 knots 2 days ago, what an amazing fragrance. I love the scent from the opening to the drydown and what a beautiful presentation. 🔥
Might buy this alongside naxos and Alexandria II
@@iFrankie. Highly recommend Nio as well. My favorite summer fragrance...ever.
Love that you did this. 40 Knots is in my Top 5 easily.

This thing smells 95% like Ambre Nuit. A more expensive clone, even. I don’t know why you’d buy it over the Dior, but it’s still well made.
Shut up
You are correct
I’ve tried Ambre Nuit, it’s just too much rose. 40 knots replaces the rose with some woodiness.
@@AryxJG Absolutely right, I have both and Ambre nuit is more sensual and calm, whereas 40 Knots is louder and rougher, because of the wood. If you spray them on your wrist and compare them, you‘ll find big differences.
Dior’s Maison line isn’t cheap either, so calling Xerjoff expensive is kind of weird

I thought that 40 knots smells very similar to blue sapphire from boadicea without the ambergris accord.

Very similar to Ambre Nuit
It's 95% a copy of Ambre Nuit
There is no aquatic vibe in this one. People just getting fooled by the name and bottle color.
