I love the look too and love how the fish that evolved in these natural environment 'pop' when put into similar environments of our aquariums. I remember starting my first 'black water' aquarium well over 35 years ago. Tetras look so amazing in these tanks and I love how happy and healthy they seem to be. Bettas seems t thrive in these too.

I love the look. Besides, all my bettas and shrimp seem so much happier and they look so much better in such water. Anubias grows really nice and doesn't get brown leaves because of bright lights (although I never had the lights on 100%, usually around 40% max but still for anubias it was to much with regular water). Tannins came to my tanks and anubias got so much healthier and started growing.

oh i did not now that tannins bind to calcium. Co2 also binds to calcium making it harder to acces for plants, so adding botanicals will also be beneficial for plants! i will get some for sure now!

CO2 also acidifies the water. As a matter of fact, some online fish stores ship their live fish with increased CO2 to lower the pH in the bag.
Deadly ammonia becomes less harmful ammonium under acid conditions.
