Hey Nathan. If you're talking about the "8" above the portée, it means that you need to read the notes 1-octave above its natural height. It is used to shorten the space needed to write high-tone groups of notes. About the "x" shaped notes, i don't know. Maybe they are notes that do not exist as keys, but are still important for the understanding of the chords ? I really have no idea :D Cheers !
@@nathanmartin3779 I know that the x can be used as a way to notate double sharp, where you go two semitones up, but it’s always before the note, so I don’t know what the x would mean in this sheet. Maybe a more forceful strike?
@@nickndc8252 I'm also aware of double sharps, but as you said, those just go where a regular sharp/flat goes. I would suppose that the X *could* mean a forceful strike. That seems like the only viable explanation at this point. I can't even find music theory websites that have touched on that sort of note.
Can you check that left hand line? Are there minor errors, could be played either way though tbh. The other possibility is that I don’t know what I’m raving on about.
No idea, I don't read music at all, but the first thing that springs to mind is crossover? Probably embarrassing myself with my utter ignorance though lmao
Number ONE: YOU MUST understand HARMONY. Number TWO: start with simple tunes and accompanying scores. First you try to play these simple tunes BY EAR. When U get stuck, you can CHEAT-PEEK. Eg The Entertainer by Scott Joplin or Yancey Special, by Jimmy Yancey. Jimmy Yancey couldn't read music, but there are great note for note transcriptions in the key of C. All depending on your level. Timothy is transcribing accomplished masters. Nowadays youtube is home to some great how-to videos, and replete with hundreds and hundreds of really good to awesome note-for-note transcriptions of Blues, Boogie, Ragtime, Standard ballads eg Yesterday, Let It Be, Ballade for Adeline, My Way, Blues, Boogie...in order to get weaned of sheet music, U try to play the same stuff by ear FIRST, - again, when U get stuck, U cheat-peek the scores,.... furthermore you try to insert blue notes, licks, etc, it's an exciting journey you will be embarking on. Wish i could handhold you more. U can email me at: mikedaniels7x7@yahoo.com Best wishes
