ok so I'm not the only one. it spits out no Internet. I dug into the boostrapper log and it literally says OS minimum version not supported before exiting... ugh. There's ways to get steam to stay downgraded but you need a PC to install a working directory of it first.. and if it's not updating... lol

That's a problem that has been happening since 2018 on Windows 8/8.1 and the only fix for it is to ignore the error and click OK. There shouldn't be any problems with doing that.
You can't update windows 7 anymore, microsoft has cut the support years ago. When you try to update it will give you an error message. Please stop spreading misinformation.
@@iamgp3313 You can update it just up to the newest one which was like a year ago from a fresh install you have to download a few updates manually then u can do the rest from the windows update application
@@klaze0121 okay I first manually updated to some 2015 windows 7 update and then it actually worked with the Windows 7 update manager and now 200 updates later I finally got Steam to run on Win 7. You saved my ass, thank you. And sorry for the agressive comment, I tend to do that a lot because I think I'm more likely to get an answer by teasing people as opposed to just asking a question.

When i tried to open steam, it gave me a "Steam is no longer supported on your operating system version"
Will have to try this out at some point but for now your old method is still working well for me minus one game not working which may be my fault
I'm pretty sure some or most new games won't work on older versions of Steam (due to lack of code to match with the steam client)

you get less performance with Windows 10. I would also use Windows 7 if I didn't have driver issues with Oculus
Some old notebooks don't have their video drivers available in windows 10
Windows 11 or 10 could never compete with Windows 7 speed
