Thanks for this. I'm not a drummer, I play piano, but this helped me count 16th note triplets better than any of the piano videos I found explaining them. When stuck on rhythm, you can always count on a drummer. Terrible pun I know but couldn't resist it.
I came here because I'm trying to learn "The art of dying" by gojira which has a ton of 16th no triplets with no pausing in between and I don't really understand the rhythm. 😂
Can anyone tell me what notes the drummer is playing in the beginning of foreplay/Long Time by Boston? When he comes in with the crash/snare pattern? They sound like triplets. Crash snare snare, crash snare snare, crash snare snare etc. but pretty fast.
You can count 16th triplets individually by saying Mee-da-lee mee-da-lee mee-dalee mee-da-lee. And if you count the notes in descending tone it sounds like a guitar solo!
If you're a successful player (like you are) then you do all that counting whether you like/realize it or not lol. I enjoy your vids and have used one of them in my classroom before.
Earl Young of Philly is the master of the 16th note triplet soul ballad. Check the Delfonics Hey Love, the Ojays Sunshine and a whole host of other Philly ballads.
Why must we always 'go to the leg' when we need to slow it down? Are we not allowed to play slowly on the snare drum? :D Noticed this in a few of these older videos from way back when.
4:29: Ex. 4 - I believe you're wrong in saying that they're the same. The first time it's a 16th note triplet, with 2 immediate rests afterwards (to complete the triplet), the 2nd time it's an 8th note. An 8th note (in theory) should ring out longer than a 16th note triplet. I'm not sure whether it's relevant on drums, but with guitar for instance they're very different things as far as I'm aware.
1 triplet and triplet 2 triplet and triplet 3 triplet and triplet 4 triplet and triplet. Does any one use this method? and for 1/16 notes, 1-e-and-a 2-e-and-a?
Aviner Bo my band director taught us to count triplets like this 1 trip let, 2 trip let, 3 trip let, 4 trip let. But I count sixteenth notes like that.
@@dalilagodinez7269 I'm not a drummer but I count triplets as one and a two and a , and 16th notes and one e and a two e and a . Not sure if this helps in anyway but that's what I do
if it wasn’t for Professor Eddy Crim and “the crim duo” in oklahoma city ok… i wouldn’t not be able to follow ur lessons but Jared ur counting seems easier than the tea top potatoes
Might not be the most "simple" response, but this should make sense... - Triplets divide a beat into 3 places where a note can land, and are played in place of where 2 beats are supposed to occur. - 32nd notes are when 4 notes are played over a single 8th note (or to make it easier to understand with this example, you will have played 8 32nd notes in place of 2 8th notes, whereas a triplet will play 3). So with that in mind... If 2 8th notes are played over 100 seconds, then triplets land on 0.00, 0.33, 0.66. If 2 8th notes are played over 100 seconds, then 32 notes land on 0.000, 0.125, 0.250, 0.375, 0.500, 0.625, 0.750, 0.875.)
Thank you! This really helped me for piano as there's no videos on this for piano, so i just applied these concepts for my instrument.
Same lmao

This probably made the difference between me getting into my high school's drum line or not...THANK YOU!!!
Wow!
Finally. Something new to try! ...and beneficial.
Thanks so much Jared

Thank you so much man 🙏
This really helps for piano so I can apply this concept.
Drums is the main rhythm.
Thanks watching as a guitarist cus I needed a brush up on following time on sheet music
helped me with my flute music 🔥 thanks man!
This is what i need, thanks for the lesson Jared & Drumeo
This was a great help! And I used it for piano. Thank you.
Great vid, Jared! Thanks- this will translate well to double bass work too!

I am a guitar player trying to learn rhythm concepts, these vids are awesome.
Thanks so much for all this great lessons and videos 🙏
One thing that really helps me count 16th note triplets is having 10 to about 15 cymbals around me. That visually just keeps me locked in.
Thanks. I'm looking on how to count 16th notes triplet on piano and i think this is same concept. Thanks

Is there a mistake? At 2:03, how many 16th-note triplets are in 3 8th-note triplets? Wouldn't the answer be 9?

Hi Jared Falk pls show full beats last after explaining one by one excise n counting of all fills
Jared in 2011, good times!
Thanks for this. I am trying to hang in there. Only been drumming for two months now.
Very good video congrats!!!

Thanks Jared - great vid
Thanks a lot dude.
Thanks, helped ALOT.
5:34 in hearing Its look like parade beat
I count it as "DAkada-DAkada-DAkada-DAkada"
The big DA's represent 1, 2, 3, 4.
Great now I'm addicted to tripelets❤
Thank you.
So it's basically a sextuplet if I'm correct?
Yes, no basically about it, exactly what it is.

How count 6/8 time
Helpful!
Can someone tell me the beats per minute this is
70 bpm
Jared! i think i havo to remark a fault in your playing... at 3:20 you're not playing out of your wrists... I have Always learned to do that!
Since when did Jared start teaching trigonometry in his drum vids? Lol
I always counted them 1 berry +berry 2 berry + berry 3 berry + berry 4 berry + berry
I have to do a test for school drum line and I'm confused a little on how to remember the 16th notes xD
I just count it 1 triplet and triplet 2 triplet and triplet 3 triplet and triplet 4 triplet and triplet
These first few exercises are excellent for double bass as well.
So could somebody simplify the answer to the comparison of how an 1/8 note triplet differs from 2 or 4 1/32 notes

i think if 6 notes per one count - so it should be 24 notes for 4 counts.
why he assumed it 16 ?
Probably just a slip of the tongue I guess.
super
Sextuplets have a 6 over them. Same difference though.
I count triplets as tri pa let tri pa let
1 a trippy lettuce
I'm digging the rythm....bt the mathematical part i don't dig it
LOL, same as me!
