    I've been playing the guitar for 2 years, only started studying music theory seriously now. Been having a damn hard time with these triplets, your vids helped a LOT!! Thanks!!! :D

    Thank you so much! I had to learn a song for my voice lessons quickly with quarter-note triplets and I couldn't get the hang of it from other videos until I found your video! Thank you so much!!

    i think it helps when you're starting off a complicated groove and getting the hang of it. that's how eventually you get the feel of it and it becomes internalized

    Great video here. I'm starting to figure out how to count triplets properly. Even though I don't play drums, this helped me with my piano

    HI, your videos are very helpful. It seems that a more basic way of thinking of triplets is relating it to its original note---16 th notes triplets to 8th notes, 8th notes triplets to quarter notes, quarter note triplets to half notes. That's just how i think of it. It makes it more relateable.

    Nice new fills!! If I could, I would have liked this a thousand times!! Lol, anyway I rewrote the whole thing with accents on all the "ah" when u count it and it sounded way better!

  • @McIntosh1006
    @McIntosh1006 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    The way you play beginning at 1:45 in the video, accenting every other note of the triplet...that is how you play the hi-hat part to Black Velvet, by Alannah Myles. Triplets, accenting every other stroke, but triplet pattern..will accent on "1", then the "&' of the first triplet, then "e" of 2, then accent lines back up on 3. 2 bar repeat. 2,3 syncopation, takes six beat to resolve. Could also say accent is on the first beat of the First triplet, third beat of the First triplet and second beat of the Second triplet.

    If you get the successful drumming pack from drumeo the quarter note triplets are explained without the other values in the excercises! A little easier. But quarter note trips are not as easy as other triplet values. I love Jared falk!

    Listen to the breakdown in "Fake messiah" by Lamb of God". ONE and AH two AND ah TRHEE and AH four AND ah. Starts at 2: 07

  • @indigo0086
    @indigo0086 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Might be too late but in your sheet music the snare drum shows as on the third bar down. I bought the beginner book from drumeo and it's it shows the snare between the second and third bar from the top. Is this just "extra space" to accomodate other pieces of the drum kit?

    • @mickw7152
      @mickw7152 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good spot. Normally it is written in the second space from the top. But drum notation can vary depending on the size of the kit, in his Jared's case he has a 6 piece kit and not a standard 5 piece kit and so I suspect this space is reserved for his extra high-tom.

  • @chiphancock4144

    I do totally agree that quarter note or half note triplets must be subdivided into the 8th triplet pulse. Many try to just count "slower" triplets.

    Here is EXACTLY how to count these in plain English:
    Play 1, the let of 1, the trip of 2, 3, and the let of 3, and the trip of 4.
    Or if you count them like he does in the video
    Play 1, the ah of 1, the & of 2, 3, the ah of 3, and the & of 4.
    Hope this helps someone

      (1) trip LET, 2 TRIP let, (3) trip LET, 4 TRIP let
      Or
      (1) and AH, 2 AND a, (3) and AH, 4 AND ah
      Like this..

  • @brianbaker5640
    @brianbaker5640 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Question... Shouldn't Jared use something else besides & ah for the 8th note trips...because isn't & ah reserved for 16th notes, like 1 ee & ah.....So if you do 1 & ah...you're really saying 3 16th notes with the 2nd one as a rest. The time between two 16ths is short than between two triplet 8th notes, right? 1 tee ta vs 1 & ah ....anyway not sure what the best verbal is for 8th note trips. 1 a la 1 trip let 1 tee ta....others?
    1 & ah
    1 te ta

      Brian Baker I'm a musician myself and over time I've learned it doesn't matter what syllables you use to count your rhythms, as long as you say them in time. I know you asked this months ago but still I hope this helps

    Hey Jared, I can't figure out Ex. 2, I can play along to what I'm hearing you play but I just can't get a feel for it and I also am really unsure how to count that around the click. Help me please!

    • @AaronLevyDrums
      @AaronLevyDrums 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ex 2 is just the main accents without the other 8th note triplets. In Ex 1. He shows the "accents" using 8th triplet diagram across the bar. The accents are what would be played in Quarter Note Triplets.

    • @AaronLevyDrums
      @AaronLevyDrums 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, if you count the accents while playing 8th note triplets, you would count it like ONE LET TRIP THREE LET TRIP

    That's risky - playing that number of well recorded isolated drum sounds. People are going to be sampling yo ass!
    Seriously though, I'm not a drummer that wanted to understand quarter note triplets to better understand some forms of polyrhythm. Thanks for the clear explanation.

      You are not alone. I have NO idea what he is talking about. Of course,I struggle to understand reading music so I may be in trouble here. The great thing is though, ultimately you don't have to know anything about the formal stuff to become proficient on drums. Some great drummers have no idea what they are doing....yeah, that seems right!

    To anyone struggling with these grooves, for me they're way way easier to feel at faster tempos. 70 bpm is real slow to be playing quarter note triplets imo, not very practical.

    ***** I completely think the opposite. Drumming IS counting, you're a living metronome so its not just about feeling the drums, its about understanding them, and the only way to achieve that is by counting.

    If you count quarter notes as: 1,2,3,4...
    And eighth notes as: 1,&,2,&,3,&,4,&...
    Sixteenth note as: 1,e,&.a.2.e.&,a,3,e,&,a,4,e,&,a...
    Makes since to count triplets as: 1,e,&,2,e,&,3,e,&,4,e,&...
    Why confuse counting, by doing it any other way? What is "ah"? Wrong.
    As a drumming community, lets stop the madness, here and now....haha.....
