This move is to a yard close to canola right? Is this a couple of weeks later than normal? Bees look strong so hopefully they capture a big honey crop for you. Thanks for the video and info Phil.

I move some colonies now and then, I have always did it around 5 a.m. thinking the cool of the morning was helping to keep them inside. I like your idea better because it would work well for me. But I was curious if there is some reason why bees should not be moved in the early morning hours?

i'm not sure I would say they should not be moved in the morning, but givn the choice I prefer the dusk move, that gives you all night to get to your destination, and get unloaded.

Great move. I would be more worried about the forklift after the bees are on the truck. I would be nervous every time I heard it miss. Do you have a plan B for everything on a move?

In theory I have complete redundancy. I’m practice I’m relieved every time something starts when I turn the key.

When you get to your destination and parking on spot, LEAVE YOUR TRUCK RUNNING WHILE UNLOADING! This will keep the bee calm.

I heard that all my life. I’ve tried it both ways. I think the noise of the engine just covers rhe beee buzz and fools you into thinking it’s all calm.

@@philbeeman I move 96 hives per one load. My truck is running while loading and at destination. I have no screens on entrances. I travel 275 miles. I load at daylight and don’t stop, except for stoplights. I keep my truck moving even at idle at lights. The bees will fluff out slightly, but will re-enter there hive when I start moving thru the light.
It is the vibration that calms them down. I’ve been doing this for over 35 years. If you’re motor cuts off, you’re haven’t got enough smoke to keep the bees in the hives.
You still have to smoke them till you

Made for sod industry originally. You can google them. Spell it “spyder” I think.
