I would add X-Men #94. Still a very key issue that is much more affordable than Giant Sized X-Men #1 imo.
Actually X-Men #94 is the sleeper. Way undervalued, much more than GS #1

Out of all your picks I believe FF#5 and FF#48 still have a lot more room to grow and the market still hasn't caught up to its potential. All the others while very popular have more or less leveled out. Action Comics #242 (Brainiac ) is another good choice because of its scarcity and his potential as a character.
Although I do not agree, I guess we will have to wait and see... Hulk 181 has definitely not peaked. Some books will flat-line for a little while, maybe even 2 to 5 years, but in the long haul, these all will see increases... It took NM98 and ASM 300 decades before they became relevant.... But I do appreciate you sharing your opinions, keep up the good work, it is appreciated here :).
I do believe there could be some growth in lower grade Hulk 181s. However I think high grade copies 8.0 and above have pretty much reached their ceiling.
Just bought ASM 300 for $150 from an comic shop, its about a 7.5-8.5. I was super excited to get it for this price. I think I'll do a video to show it and see what people think. Great video!

Excellent video. I knew what your top two books would be. I would also suggest NYX 3, the first appearance of X 23, and Iron man 55, the first appearance of Thanos. I think Thanos is really hot right now.
He is definitely hot right now, but that is the key... Right now... :). I really think after he is defeated in the next movie (Which of course will be a given), that book will cool off like most villains do.... Ultron was hot at one point, not any more. Apocalypse was as well, now you can get them cheap. So be very careful about when you pick your comics because the last time you want to buy a book is at their peak. Plus most villain characters tend to never appear in movies once they have been used (There are of course exceptions).... So be careful. X23 is another gamble because again, it is near its peak and we don't know if Marvel (If they get her rights) will use her or use her correctly. So to me, that book buying it now is a gamble with not much wiggle room. I bought a 9.8 years ago for $325. that book now is around $900. I would not pay that price for that book. Too risky. But I do appreciate your thoughts and hope you don't think I was trying to insult. I am just telling you from a perspective of how to save or make the most money out of an investment. I am thrilled to have Hulk 181 graded at 8.5, GS X-men 1 at 9.0, and ASM 129 at 6.5 (had it pressed) to my collection! I purchased these great books at cover price back in the 70s. I regret selling X-men #94 but needed the money to help funnel my collection. I still have 95, 96, and 97 and eventually will have them slabbed! Great video!

I paid $7 dollars for Hulk 181 at Forbidden Planet comic shop in 1981 and purchased another for $10 in 1984 this book has really gone up in price I seen one go for $6800 at 9.6 rating

Is fantastic four 48 and 49 worth buying for £180 both in mid grade condition because someone is offering me this. Btw 49 has had a small burn from being to close to a light bulb.

Ultimate Spider-Man #1, any idea what it should be worth now given its the 20th anniversary and the series is revered so much now with hindsight. Could it potentially increase in value with time and as nostalgia grows ?
I own (ready for this?) a complete set of marvel value stamps, series 1 and series 2 and a blank (empty) marvel value stamp book series 1. CGC won't grade a marvel value stamp book that has stamps taped or glued into the book, so I could theoretically get a grade on the empty one. A side note, I checked the stamp that would have come from Hulk 181, and the back of the stamp does not match the back of the page from 181, remember stamps from series 1 did not only come from a single issue. (A side note, yes, there are 200 comics that have missing cut out stamps that I was personally responsible for)
Just picked up Eternals #2 and 7 (both cgc 9.6) because I love the Celestials 🚀 I believe their storyline will ramp up over the next 5-10 years!
Also grabbed raw Thor #283 that looks decent so we will see! Keeping my eyes open for 1st appearance of Living Tribunal...

What are some tips on collecting and reading Spider-Man? I have been wanting to read them but just not sure where to start.
There are many reprints of asm's early issues, so you can get those and be able to read his beginnings. I would start there :).

Great books and a lot of books u have are on my list like AMS#129,Hulk#181, FF#5 and Giant Size X-Men#1 but those books cost thousands so I am just going after my 7 grails AMS#129,Hulk#181,TMNT#1, Cerebus #1, X-Men#1, Amazing Fantasy #15, and Batman#1 and hopefully by the end of this year I should have enough saved to get a few of them. It's weird cause I got 2 copies of Batman Adventures #12 for $2.00 each last year and I found AMS#300 for $5.00.

i purchased peter parker the spectacular spinderman #107 the first appearance of sin eater for 2 bucks today and was wanting your 2 cents on it if i made a good buy not much wear and tear looks to be in very fine + maybe even higher still have to break it down and do some looking at it bit was it a good buy or just an eh buy.
For $2 how could you go wrong? Especially if the purchase made you happy :).
A family friend Gave me the amazing Spider-Man #10 1964 first appearance of the enforcers the top part of the cover is missing and top part of the first page is missing should I buy a copy that's complete off eBay or have my copy Restored
If it were me I would get another copy but I always say I do what you think is best for you :-).
@@WeLoveComics I could buy a copy off eBay it would probably be low Grade but I'd have it pressed cleaned and Graded so even if it were a 3.0 or something it wouldn't matter to me low Grade is better than no Grade amazing Spider-Man #10 is a aception it's from 1964 I can't expect it to be a 9.4 or 9.8
As I always say.... LOW GRADE IS BETTER THAN NO GRADE :)

There used to be (early to mid or late 80's) a comic and science fiction convention called Creation that was probably in 4-5 locations around the US. Used to go to most of the downtown Los Angeles ones. Anyway, at one show I picked up a couple Hulk 181's within a few minutes. I think the first was for about $12 and another was about $8. The dealer at the second table asked what I paid for the first copy and they said they should raise their price but I told her that I was going to buy it and she said, "okay but if you don't, I'm going to raise the price". I'm guessing they're F-VF and should have them graded. Back then, you could pick up a IH #180 for practically nothing as many didn't know of that appearance in the last panel.

Very good question... Well, since I do not have any children it will be difficult to leave my comics to them ;)> lol. So I have stated that between the ages of 55 - 55 I will most likely sell my entire collection to (Hopefully) be able to move to a tropical island and retire like a champ :). That is not a bad grade for that book at all.... If/when they are in a marvel movie, that book will more then double in price over night....

It breaks my heart when I think of all the comic books l bought at cover price, that are now worth a fortune but mine got lost, stolen or damaged. Do you think the first appearance of Doomsday and "The Death of Superman" issue that came in the black plastic bag will ever be worth anything? Thanks.
I know how you feel, all my high grade mega key issues all got stolen back in 98 so I feel your pain... Considering they already did the "Death" of Superman in the movies, I don't think it is going to go any higher for decades.
New Gods #1 I found a 9.4 CGC for $500 and they are supposed to be doing a New Gods movie in the next few years and that book has a lot of 1st appearances Orion, Highfather etc

I kept expecting to see Superman #199 from 1967 (first Superman & Flash race), They also raced in Flash #175 (1967) and World's Finest #198 (1970). I think all three of those books should be highly desirable to all collectors.
That is definitely a great book but I think the ones I showed have a much greater potential. I think the Justice league using the race made that book peak and since the movie was not as desirable as they would have hoped, people lost interest. Still a great book, I have one myself :).
I had a flash 175 cgc 9.8 when there only 2 available at that grade, sold it for $2000 like 8 years ago
I dont see why people collect comics just to make profits. I am a collector myself, but I collect for the love of comics not for the money. The only people that make the most money from comic collectors are the CGC, PGX, and other grading companies. If you want to invest, might as well invest in stocks with good dividends.
There is no wrong way to collect or to invest. Each person is different. So you may not understand and that is fine but they also serve a purpose as they keep the hype up. What people do with the items they spend their hard working money on is on them. Thank you for your comment.
I diversify. I invest in stocks, collectables, commodities, etc. But there's nothing like holding and enjoying the beautiful artwork of book that is worth thousands.

Sorry I was 4yrs behind but what a dope collection. Frankly for me Incredible Hulk #181 is way out of my reach. Today a CGC 8.0 would go for 5 to 9k. Wish i purchased it 2 and half decades ago when most of these vintage comics were affordable. But I do own a Amazing Spiderman #14 and the Avengers #4. I purchased those back in mid 2000 around the $400 range. Also i have Young Avengers #1. I bought that for the cover price. That was a steal !! My favorite book is Batman #251. Neal Adams definately made Joker more darker then the silver age version.
One never knows when a deal arises so never give up :). They are always out there just waiting to be found. I have bought many key issues way below their values at the time just by searching. Think positive and you will be amazed what may turn your future corner :). I wish you great success and appreciate your comment.

My advice for going up is Vamprella #1 and #3 from Warren Publishing, 60s.
Also a modern that will go up, but found fairly cheap raw is The Tick: Special Edition #1 and #2
I picked up Doctor Strange #1 9.6 and a Moon Knight #1 9.8 for this reason. I feel Strange is only going to keep going up with him now entering the Spiderverse. Moon Knight is supposed to debut in the MCU soon so I took a chance on that one.

I just picked up Amazing Spiderman 122 and 121. And Captain Marvel 26.. First time Thanos appears on a cover. I have to work on the rest in your great list. Keep up the great vids!

Another comic that continually surprises me that it goes up in value is House of Secrets number 92, which is the first appearance of the Swamp Thing.
I think it is mainly because they are doing a Swamp thing TV show. I just hope they do a GOOD swamp thing TV show :).
That and the Wes Craven movie from 1982 with Adrienne Barbeau.
The previous live action and animated tv series that were released.
The work that Alan Moore did during the 1980s, including the introduction of Constantine.
And also the fact that both creators, Len Wein and Berni Wrightson, have both passed away.
Some day someone is going to make a movie worthy of the Swamp Thing and then it is going to skyrocket. Swamp Thing is one of the most interesting characters in the DCU.
Batman 251 with the classic Neal Adams Joker cover has really gone up a lot in the past 5 years. Graded VF/NM copies are up around $800-$1000

I have a Batman 251 CGC 9.0 such a classic cover, also have a Neal Adams signed print of this cover hanging in my bedroom lolz.
Your silver-age books are amazing, really beautiful pieces. My best Silver-age book is an ASM 50(1st Kingpin) in CGC 7.0
I have the same CGC 8.0 ASM 129 as you except mine has ow to cream pages.
I have a New mutants 98 in CGC 9.8 which I bought raw for $200 just before the movie hit.
I have the ASM 300 in CGC 9.6 which I also bought raw for around $200 about 4-5 years ago.
I have the Batman adventures 12 It was CGC 9.0 but I recently cracked it and got it pressed.
I know the FF 48 is worth more but I personally love FF 49 so much more "If This Be Doomsday" just because of a story from Fantastic four 391 I read as a kid when Sue, Johnny and Ben get transported back to the Galactus fight from FF 49 by the Watcher in a different time-line and they are forced to fight Galactus again. It's a really incredible last stand. (There's also a side story about Lyja and Johnny's baby hatching from it's egg and putting a beating on the avengers lol until she kills it.) I own 2 FF 49's both CGC 7.5 too but I don't have the FF 48 or 50 yet.
I do have 3 Giant-Size X-Men 1's The best being a CGC 9.2 that should have been 9.4! it's flawless. The other two are CGC 4.5 and a CGC 6.0 both signed by Stan Lee
I have the Hulk 181 and a Green Lantern 76 both CGC 9.0 and they are the crown jewels in my collection hands down.
So if I have a IRA with a rate of return of 12%, should I sell that off and purchase all these books?? lol Serious question!

lol or financial adviser. I've taken enough finance classes to try to calculate if these books would have a higher return, but that would be based solely on assumption. But with the way things have been going over the last few years, they just might! Appreciate the reply!

lolll Well, I could work out an average rate of return equation to see by calculating the growth of an IRA over the last say, 10 years, and the growth of the value of say ASM 129 or Hulk 181 over the last ten years. Funny thing, I have Starbucks stalk, which over the last 5 years has only produced a rate of return (or percentage of growth) at 3%. I just took 100 dollars out of that stock and bought the full sets of Infinity Gauntlet and Infinity War for 60 bucks, so I am going to assume those books will increase in value at a much higher rate than what my Starbucks stock was giving me.
I've been checking on eBay about deadpool first appearance, did that comic come out on white pages? And I've seen it on 9.4 for 380 is that ok you think?
I think it is an OK deal but not a great one. If it were me, I would wait for a better deal. But if you feel that is the best offer you have seen and you really want it then I say go for it....

News stand is always better because they are rarer. But it really won't effect price much because most don't know about the differences.

Hey Chris, I had a question about a comic I recently purchased and was wondering if you or anyone else in the comments could help me out. I purchased a copy of Amazing Spider-Man 101 recently on eBay, I’ve had the comic and looked it over and everything seemed good. After taking a second look at it the other night I noticed the cover had some fading on Spider-Man’s legs in the bottom right corner. After further inspection, I noticed that on the back of the cover, where his legs were faded, there was a red bleed exactly in the spots faded on the cover. My question is, would this be a failed restoration? I’m thinking someone may have taken a marker and filled in the faded spots and then it bled through to the other side. I would show pictures but I do not think I can in the comments. Just let me know what you think. Thanks!
Not sure, I would have to see it. It could also be a manufacturer error and the ink bled through. If that was the case, it would not be restoration. I would bring that to a local comic shop and have someone inspect it...
Can someone help answer this question? I have so much problem with CGC new slabs. 8 out of 10 books shipped gets damaged with the book sliding in the case. The damages varies from front cover separating from staples, dent corners, fold edges and crack spine. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to deal with this serious CGC slab defects? Sooner or later CGC is going to get a class action lawsuit for their defective case.

I really could kick myself. Over the years I have had so many chances to buy New Mutants 98 and ASM 300, and it was always at a time when I had no money or was after another prize. In fact, I remember a couple of years before the Deadpool movie came out, you could find New Mutants in dollar boxes all over, and for whatever reason, I never grabbed it. You have definitely given me a list to work towards here. I definitely appreciate the knowledge I get here. Have a good weekend, my man!
We have all had the same thing happen so I am sure at one point we can all feel your pain. Don't feel bad, I bought NM87 only about a month after it came out and it cost me around $60-70 back then.... I am barley breaking even now....
Got giant size x-men 3.0 in January for $1300 , saw 1 sold a few days ago just shy of 2k! All these books will keep flying wall this stimmy.

I bought my NM copy of Incredible Hulk #181 in 1985 for $25 and sold it on eBay in 2000 for $180. To think that it's now worth 10 times what I sold it for 20 years ago.
Hindsight is always 20/20. Hope you can find another copy, they still have much room to grow in value.

When I was 9 years old back in 1974 My mum bought me a copy of Incredible Hulk 181 at the airport so I would have something to read on the plane. I still have it but it is not in great condition now. I guess one in fairly good condition would not be worth much now.

A hulk 181 graded a CGC 1.0 sold for about $3,000 recently, and a 0.5 sold for about $1,800... So that book is worth a lot in any grade :).
Strange Tales 126 is a decent priced book right now. 1st Clea and Dormammu. Bought a really nice copy(vf??) for sixty bucks a while back. Also Nova#1, it's been sitting at around 30 bucks for the past year. For people who don't have a fortune to spend, I see these books going nowhere but up in value.

What's your opinion about The Infinity Gauntlet comic book issue 1 those cgc 9.8 what do you think has more cultural significance or is it even. Infinity Gauntlet or Thanos first appearance Iron Man 55? I'm wondering which book, I know books after 1990 were more mass-produced so of course the Iron Man first appearance of Thanos is going to be more rare of a book. Correctt me if I'm wrong of course The Infinity Gauntlet are going through the roof there like nearing double that's a given. Just wanted some advice, I think the Iron Man 55 aside from all the other key factors of that book is probably the biggest key book going around at the moment right now when you look at how successful Thanos introduction was onto the Silver Screen. Now we're talking his first appearance book who wee!
I think if you are going to get an infinity gauntlet book, I would recommend Silver surfer 44 (1st appearance of the gauntlet). I think the infinity gauntlet #1 has peaked in price at this point and will even out then eventually fade once the 2nd movie is over... I think if someone did not buy that book 2 years ago, they are going to over pay IMO.....Iron man 55 is the same thing. It is a great book but since everyone is talking about Thanos at this point, it is the worst time to buy a book... Again, it should have been purchased 2 years ago or more. People getting that book now will over pay. That book will retain its value but I don't see it doubling or anything close to that at this point. Sadly, many people buy things when it is at its peak and not when it is obscure.... The best time to get a book is when no one wants it.... The worst time is when everyone does... Hope that helps....
Frank Miller's The Dark Knight and Silver Surfer #1. I also think Batman Damned has some potential to go up in value.
Not sure about the Batman Damned but time will tell. The other choices were not bad at all :).
I loved the silver surfer growing up. Have every issue up to late vol 3. Loved thor as well. Silver Surfer vol1#4 is one of my prized possessions.

How can i tell the difference between the real Hulk 181 and reprints/not the good copy? Comic Book Realm lists 3 printings ranging from $10 to roughly $1000.
I would have to see the copy before I could really tell you the differences... Check the date on the inside of the book for one.

I have a dilemma I would like your help with. I have a copy of Amazing Spider-Man 129 CGC graded at a 9.6. I may have an opportunity to trade it and a few other key books to get a copy of Amazing Spider-Man #1 CGC 3.5. The other key books are not on this Top 10 list except for maybe my 1st Batgirl (mid grade). It’s through my local LCS so they will be looking for more than the value of my books in relation to the ASM 1 (probably 20% more). Is this worth the trade? If you or anyone has an opinion, please let me know as I am a little torn on the decision and which books to relinquish. Thanks in advance for the help and keep up the great work with your videos.
I honestly would save all your keys for a low grade AF15. ASM1 is great but if you could find even a 0.5 AF 15, I would do that.....

Always pass on comics that you feel are not worth it. There will always be other and better opportunities for people who are patient.

Wonder how many of those PGX graded books have resto and not noticed. 4 out of 10 of my pgx books that I sent in to be graded by CGC came back restored. 😭
That is just not true. And CGC makes more mistake but no one ever dares talk about it. If you knew what CGC does, you would never use them. But people show their bias by attacking one company and praising another without any research.
@@WeLoveComics no research tell that to my restored books that PGX missed. I aint bullshitting 4 out of my 10 FF books came back restored. And it aint just me plenty of other collectors have had this issue as well. PGX is notorious for missing resto and thats a fact. Cgc makes plenty of mistakes as well but missing resto is not one of them and to me thats a big mistake to make when you are a grading company.
You may want to watch more videos because there are plenty out thee where CGC messed up those kind of books as well. Most don't want to talk about that though. Thanks for your comments.

1000% agree with your spec buys! Hard to drop that cash on the spec but these will all increase or hold value worst case possible.
I know what you mean, but always be on the lookout for deals, you never know when one may find its way to you to snatch up.
I have Amazing Spider-Man #238 (1st Hobgoblin), #300 and many others that will go up in value, I think (the proposal and wedding, etc).

I think Spider-woman has more potential, especially for the price... I think even with a movie, the micronauts would not be a good long term investment. If it ever got a movie, I would say to sell right away while the price is up on that one....

Micronauts was a fun read for me, I think I still have both series laying around somewhere, not worth a whole lot, but they are still fun. I agree with Chris though Spider Woman #1 definitely has potential. Then again in the early nineties when I was buying up Tomb of Dracula for a quarter a piece and then turned around and paid $10 for a number one I got laughed at. Those that remember it, probably aren't laughing now.
I say buy what you like, collect what you like, the important thing is that you enjoy it, not that it's going to be the next 'hot' thing.
Batman adventures 12 is not a good investment imho. The price shot up a few yrs ago when suicide squad was all the rage, and i just feel the harley stuff has been overdone and that book has peaked. Its like deadpool, but even more played out. New mutants 98 has been stagnant for a while. Otherwise, i love ur other picks!

That means, technically, Giant-Size X-Men vol. 1 # 1 is his 4th appearance, but his 2nd full appearance. Not being nit-picky. Like you, I’m a very big collector and I’m pretty big on knowing their appearances both for the monetary and knowledge factors. 🙂

The good thing is that BA12 can still be bought for under $500 in high grade so that is a book I always say is better to buy raw and then get graded. You will save about 50% or more doing it that way. Just make sure you look at the book and make sure it is high grade.... Thanks again Jim for another great comment.
I will definitely check it out before I buy it which is what I do with every book I buy in raw form. I have to say I am glad I picked up most of the silver age books I needed over the last few years because wow are the prices starting to really climb on a lot of them. As more and more people get squeezed out of buying the golden age books it just drives the prices up on silver age. Pretty soon the silver age books will be out of range for a lot of people and that will start really driving up bronze age books and then believe it or not the books from the 80's will really start to climb in the next decade. Yup, I totally agree. And when the Silver age books get out of reach, the next to start increasing will be the bronze age books. It is all about supply and demand... Once a books has been printed, there are no more so as the number of people who want them increase, the supply actually goes down. Because not only do some hold on to their books, but some get lost, destroyed etc. So the supply gets less and less while the demand increases... That is why some of the will eventually get out of rich, especially in higher grades...

I just picked up a Batman #121 (1st app of Mr. Freeze) last night that I definitely think has some serious potential. Its already a really rare book but if DCEU ever has him as a villain, you can kiss it goodbye. I got a 3.5 for 1300.
That definitely has potential, only problem is that is a really expensive book. But I do agree that book would double over night if he was in a movie (Besides the George Cloony version) ;).

Are you trying to drive up the prices of the comic books you own? Maybe you've made the case to buy these, but everything you say seems to be focused on price appreciation and whether or not it appears in a movie. History and desirability are always the best reason to buy a comic book. Cover art is another one. I'd rather have a book with a beautiful cover than something that's just an intro of a character. To each his own, I found this interesting.
