- On today’s episode of Homeworthy, we’re bringing you inside interior designer Alex Kaehler’s gorgeous home in Winnetka, Illinois. A complete gut renovation provided Alex with the perfect opportunity to infuse some traditional charm back into the 1950’s home with crown moldings, herringbone flooring and subtle architectural details. Alex has contrasted her formal furnishings and decor with fresh, contemporary pieces - including original pointillism artwork created by her sister. Ms. Kaehler's home is proof that traditional design can be young and fresh. Alex's youthful energy is apparent in her charming approach to mixing traditional and contemporary art and furnishings. A delightful home base for a young family.
She has good taste yet is down to earth and she skillfully designed the house around a growing family. The formal living room is very elegant yet relaxing and she knows how to create conversation groupings wt the furniture placements. Guests would feel very comfortable stretching out on the divan. The dog that follows her around looks well-loved. I have the same designing sensibilities but with a beer budget😊
Beautiful well thought out home thank you for sharing. But please, give your beautiful dog a comfy bed to lay on in that crate in the kitchen instead of him laying on the hard plastic pan.

I really like how all the artwork has meaning to her. And that she wanted her home to be a lived in home. So many look like museums. Like she said it was designed so it would work for their lifestyle. The scarf framed was really pretty as well.

That's a great brass bell bowl! Lovely wallpapers. Artwork included! I'd have the heat going consistently. It's freezing here in Chicago! Nice collections. I'm surprised the ceilings weren't raised! Very nice interior and exterior. I do think the small strip of wallpaper would look nice on the kitchen ceiling, since the white, is so stark. I understand her need for "garden feel". We dont live in the season long enough! Home Sweet Home!

FINALLY someone around my age (Im 35) with the same taste dubbed Grandmillenial. You can have traditional taste with classic touches that doesn't make you seem like a stuffy 85 year old. Love her home, especially things she has incorporated that reminds her of her family.

My mother, who is in her 80's, gave me a wonderful upbringing and sense of style and appreciation of the arts. Nothing stuffy going on there. They are the generation that created many of the interior designs you choose to label "Grandmillenial." How ironic in that she is part of the greatest generation. ☺️

She's done a beautiful job with her home... However, I'm getting tired of Homeworthy mainly featuring massive homes with unlimited budgets. I love seeing people be creative in smaller spaces.
They have done several apartments and small size living spaces.

The herringbone flooring is very nice and the two green elephants in the foyer area are simple cute!! ☺ I like the open concept with the kitchen and family/entertainment area!! Nice!! I like to see how many people arrange the home/condo that they want to live in. And yes, I hear you about our Chicago weather and needing a place to take off your boots and coats!!! I saw the snow here back on Tuesday and it was 🤪 crazy!! Well, thank you again for giving me some design ideas. And yes, I am in the Edgewater/Uptown neighborhood so, Chicago weather, I heat you!! ☺ Smile

My favorite space was the primary bedroom, especially the wall paper. Overall it was a bit busy for my eye, but there were some lovely pieces of art!
I really love what she's done and I think it's wonderful that she's juxtaposed her sister's beautiful art work, with the fabric from her grandmother's living room. I have a significant appreciation for a mixture of contemporary and traditional and I think it's wonderful that she has created this with so many references to her family throughout the house. It really puts a personal stamp on it. I also really adore that her coffee tables are minimally decorated. I'm really tired of the coffee table that is overflowing with books and baubles. It makes me claustrophobic and I'm ready for that trend to go away.

Well I had 2 80 lb labradors… on the rare occasion they were crates ( when young)… I had a nice soft blanket and pad for them.. I THINK this person can afford that.. and find the minute it would take to do that. Sorry.
