Excellent comparison of the two 👏 I'm in awe of what these two guitars can do and how they sound. I'm a 71 yr old woman who was once in an all girls band (as lead singer/rhythm guitarist). I'm diggin' all the guitar cha cha cha changes over the years. I want to thank you for your time, your expertise and your talent! 👏
Here is why I think most people are preferring the Tele.... Something just didn't sound right with the Strat when I was listening on headphones..... so I checked and tried on a few different headphones and devices, but it was the same outcome for all, so, I don't think I'm going mad... but anyone else getting this? As I'm surprised this hasn't been noticed sooner.... The reverb is panned hard right for both guitars.... and it sounds to me like the Tele is panned more to the left, and the Strat panned more to the right. Example: Quickly click between the two times below to hopefully see what I mean, (this also shows the reverb tail off) REVERB: 03:59 TELE: 04:15 / STRAT: 03:49 So, the Strat is coming out the same side as the reverb, which seems to be muddying it. As the Tele is coming out more of the left side, with the reverb on the right, it's appearing to sound cleaner, louder and fuller. I'm guessing there was an error in the signal chain somewhere? Maybe unknowingly panned on the desk by mistake? Either way, unfortunately at the moment I don't think it's giving a true comparison or representation of the Strat in sound IMPO. As else where it sounds full and rich. Apart from that, this would be the perfect comparison vid, so, please don't think not trying to slag it off or anything! Just what I noticed when intently listening and hopefully it can be fixed if applied in post, for this vid to be re-uploaded!
Hey Tom, Adam here. Thank you for taking the time to dive in and see what may have happened. We had to dig right back and look to see what the issue was and although both guitars and audio files were treated in the same way, there does seem to be a panning issue where the telecaster doesn't suffer. We are going to have a look at doing a more up to date comparison soon so will have a fresh look at the sounds on each guitar. As a final point, the sonic blue strat in the video is mine (which I had before the comparison!) and I preferred the sounds on the tele both recorded and in the room. Doh! Thank you again and keep in touch! Adam
Strat sounds better to my ears, tele a little harsh, too much bass. I sold my elite strat, try an acoustisonic into a Fender GTX100, so versatile, distorted or clean. The beauty of this guitar is the percussive effect you lose on an electric. You lose a touch of agility on solos but so worth it for the rythem, chords and really hearing the notes. Just the right neck width for using finger picking instead of pick, once learned incredibly versatile.
Got yourself a sub with that EXCELLENT demo. A/B is the ONLY way to do it but some "reviewers" are too lazy to put in that work. From the play thru I think it is pretty clear that the larger upper bout of the Tele gives more depth and warmth to all the acoustic tones. The Strat might be slightly more articulate with some fast arpeggios but overall the Tele provided a more round-voiced acoustic experience. I think it comes down what you play and how. Both models are going to give an electric player great sounding acoustic-like options. But current Strat and Super Strat players are going to get usable Tele electric tones from the Tele too, which might be very attractive to have in your kit. Add that to the fuller acoustic tones from the Tele, could be tough to resist. Meanwhile, the Strat Acoustasonic adds a fatter electric tone (and more total electric tones) that might allow you to do everything you need to do with just the one guitar. Appealing in its own way. Decisions....
Great demo, the tele sounds a little darker to my ears. The Strat sounds a bit more balanced and ready to use. Thanks for the time in making such great videos.
I am just wondering WHY these comparisons can't be done on simply a plain clear channel? No reverb, no gain, nothing but the straight sound out of a stock amp of your choosing with the volume set to 5, or what ever you want..and the rest turned off? Guitar sound only..if it sounds bad, at least it will be an accurate comparison. I know all of you guys like to sound "better" with a little reverb, or gain pumped into it...but, just like this comparison they just never work out equally for each of them. I am glad you posted this video as it is exactly what I'm looking for. Now with the new jazz master out like them, you could do a three way with all on a clean amp? Then I can finally buy one of these. Thank you VERY much!!✌️
this is obviously just an opinion but i see a lot of people saying the tele sounds more acoustic, but honestly to me i think the strat does, which is surprising, just in the first 20 seconds of this video there was a clear difference in sound, to me that strat is super bright and has a balanced amount of boom, the tele to me sounded too dark and super boomy, totally a preference thing, i’d love to hear others thoughts :)
There are a lot of dems on TH-cam, but in my opinion yours is the best if you want to buy an instrument that projects you exactly where you want to go, and therefore you need to understand well what is the substantial difference between the Stratocaster and the Telecaster. So, bravo! And thanks a lot. I fell in love with the tones of the Stratocaster and I definitely like it black ...🤟 rock on!
Wish I had a transcription of those riffs! Though I mainly play a regular Tele, I preferred the Strat sounds here. I thought the Tele seemed boomy and not bright enough. Maybe that's all a matter of EQ, though.
I have the tele model and was thinking of getting a strat model too, but I really think the tele sounds significantly better in this demo. Both are very cool.
I've just worked out why. The reverb is panned hard right. The Tele is panned more to the left, making it sound better, where as the Strat is panned more to the right which is muddying it in reverb.
I might be wrong but it feels like the strat version gives that amazing acoustic / electro-acoustic guitar sounds of 90’s and early 00’s R&B and Hip Hop … I love that sound. My question is what is the difference between the standard Strat range and tue exotic range… If anyone could help, I’d be forever grateful.
thanks, superb comparison. Tending towards the tele, for positions 3-4-5. at 1 and 2, the strat has more of the electric vibe, the tele still sounds a bit more acoustic. Yes tele it is :)
I definitely liked more the acoustic sounds from the strat. However, the positions 1 and 2 from the tele apeal more to me. The position 2B just blew me away. Since it is the blend between the acoustic and electric sounds, I think you can get a similar sound in the strat, but I haven't seen anyone perfoming like that. They use to go to the extreme positions, A or B. This is a hard one. I thinking on getting one, but haven't desided yet... Sure both are great!
I've just worked out why. The reverb is panned hard right. The Tele is panned more to the left, making it sound better, where as the Strat is panned more to the right which is muddying it in reverb.
Great demo...playing side by side! Thank you! I’m DEFINITELY *not* awesome...but as an acoustic player...always *wanting* the strat form factor? PERFECT!!! Thanks again! Cheers! (P.S. I was just *gifted* an Acoustasonic Strat...this demo make me feel SUPER solid and excited with it! Instead of the Tele!!!)
Hello, I am French, I want to congratulate you on your different videos! I want to buy a Fender American Acoustasonic guitar. Can you give me some advice, I'm hesitating between the Telecaster, Stratocaster or Jazzmaster model. I play in an international variety band, I also like Blues and Rock & Roll I need an Acoustasonic with clean sounds but also a bit of crunch if possible. I currently own a Fender American Elite HSS guitar. Thank you very much for all of your information. Cordially. Stephane
I like the Strat sounds , but I like the tele body, cos it’s smaller. Hard to choose between them. But I think I will choose Strat, after reviewing the "Quick Start Guide": The Tele's has the same voice at Position 4B and Position 2A, named "Sitka Spruce/Mahogany Dreadnought", these are duplicate. Of cause they can be change with mod knob mix with "B: Blends electric pickup to the above voice". But the Strat one is "A: Engelman Spruce/Rosewood Dreadnought" and mix with "B: Fender Electric Clean". I think the Strat one is more sensible. Also the Strat's Position 1 A: Fender Electric Fat/Semi-Clean and B: Fender Electric Dirty is more sensible then Tele's Position 1 "A: Fender Electric Clean" and "B: Fender Electric Dirty".

@@astringsuk Thanks buddy! Looking forward to the update :) These things happen, keep up the good work though!

great video...exactly what I was looking for. I think the tele sounds more 'acoustic'.
Great comparison and beautiful playing!

B ravo on this impartial evaluation and excellent choice in tunes for the demonstration..

Is the tele pickup hotter or just a little louder in the mix?
Best comparison I've sound. You picked great material to showcase the subtle differences--and great playing. Thanks.

I would take either one at half price. Then I would love it and pet it and call it George.
thanks, superb comparison. Tending towards the tele, for positions 3-4-5. at 1 and 2, the strat has more of the electric vibe, the tele still sounds a bit more acoustic. Yes tele it is :)
I got the strat and tele. Both black.
Leaning towards the Tele body style. Better low end. A little more full sounding. Like the strat overdriven though. Great review. Thank you!
The strat has more 3D space to my ears. Love the tele, but she sounds a bit more in your face with less highs ...
Yeah, it seems to me that the Strat has a bit more of an "airy" sound which I like a little better. Both sound great though.
Thanks!!!

So close, I think we're splitting hairs.
I do want one tho. Whatever one, or color, I find a deal on, that's the one I'm picking.

wish i could get the strat sound in the tele body hahah
Telecaster 2b is really hard to duplicate. Great sound.
Hello,

I want to buy a Fender American Acoustasonic guitar.

I need an Acoustasonic with clean sounds but also a bit of crunch if possible.
I currently own a Fender American Elite HSS guitar.
Thank you very much for all of your information.

That tele is the most beautiful guitar I've ever seen
the green tele matches the green on your tattoos you should buy that one...
Why is the tele always louder than the strat?
I like the Strat sounds , but I like the tele body, cos it’s smaller. Hard to choose between them.
But I think I will choose Strat, after reviewing the "Quick Start Guide":

what strings you using?? the Strat sounds electric, the Telly sounds acoustic
Obviously the volume levels were not matched or the telecaster is infinitely superior.
Enjoyed the demo thanks, has to be the Tele.
Which one (guitar) is more money sir ?
I prefer the tele dirty sound over the strat. The acoustic models on the tele seem a bit more full bodied too.
I think the tele takes the overall prize, but that position three on the strat is the best sound to my ears!
For me, Strat!
I’ll take the Jazzmaster
Either can probably be EQ'd to taste, right? 🍻
Telecaster has more of a rich acoustic sound
Tele sounds better to my ears
I feel Strat sounds more airy than Tele
The tele is by far much better
I don’t know why , but I don’t love them
Sent mine back. Not a good acoustic nor electric
You look extremely dehydrated
