They are both phenomenal! Would not know which one to choose, but that is where you come in. I do not mean to be critical but it would help me if you were to play 30 seconds on one and then switch to the other for the same tune and amount of time. Switching back and forth would give me a better idea of what position 5 sounded like on both guitars because the way you did it, I had no clue what the Taylor sounded like in that position anymore. Not even in position 1 by the time you got to that on the Fender. Thanks for bringing us these demo's Chris, we really do enjoy them!
I know im asking randomly but does someone know a tool to log back into an Instagram account..? I was dumb forgot my password. I would love any help you can give me!
@Tanner Finley I really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and im in the hacking process now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
The Michael Kelly hybrid has been around longer then both of them and I can play acoustic and electric at the same time. Stereo through two amps and a1/3 the price
@@tacoman864 I am, as well. I am a big Taylor fan and also, I love vintage Yamaha's. I'm not a big fan of newer Yamaha's, however. But this one doesn't sound bad.
I have a Cocobolo Custom T5z - it's an absolute dream. I play it as much just as an acoustic as I do with it plugged in. It's weakness is that to get the best out of the acoustic side of things with an amp, you really do need one which is either designed for acoustic guitars or which can be switched. I think most serious players of T5's or T5z's use two amps and have a switch pedal. I don't but as I don't like a lot of overdriven distortion, I get all the tones I want just with an acoustic amp or - - - I just play it as it is. When played that way, a T5z is very like an archtop with a touch of treble on the edge of its naturally warm tones.
The Taylor uses the Acoustic soundboard transducer (not piezo undersaddle pickup) only on the first position, the other 4 positions are combinations of the 2 stacked humbuckers ( one invisible near the neck and other lipstick shape near the bridge). This has to be taken in account for comparing both guitars. By other hand, the Taylor sound is the result of the combination of 3 transducers ( 1 acoustic and 2 magnetics) not pre-shaped modulations, only the results of the manual low-treble eq. However some of the Fender’s sound is based on pre-shaped Fishman modulations over the undersaddle piezo pickup.
Both guitars sound great for what they are. My fav is the Tele which has far more realistic and a greater variety of acoustic tones. That said, they could never replace my Martin D45, D41 or Santa Cruz. The biggy for me is the comfort factor of the Acoustasonic that goes along with the great sounds available. I can play that axe all day long with none of the right shoulder fatigue that comes with playing Dreadnought body acoustics. I would like to know what amp(s) you are playing those through and at what EQ settings as this is key in determining the true characteristics of the guitars. Guitars, both acoustic and electric, can sound entirely different depending upon the amp/settings used. I’m lucky - I have both guitars, however my Taylor is the Koa top model. Love both guitars for their individual personalities. I also have some great solid body and semi-hollow body electric guitars, and these two acoustic-electrics could never replace any of the electrics - including the “real” Tele electric. I am very lucky to be able to have variety of guitars and amps, but if I could only have one guitar it would be........Tele Acoustasonic! It’s a winner!! Play thru some stomp boxes for some interesting electric sounds too! Some say it is too expensive. I disagree. It is a very versatile instrument with lots of bang for your buck! That said there is one thing it is NOT - it is NOT a shred machine! Thanks for another great review Chris. Yours are some of the best on TH-cam!
I played with both styles of guitars. (not the cocobolo versions) Plugged them into acoustic amps and electric amps. The electric guitar sounds on both got better through the electric amp. The one thing I know for sure is that the amount of compression on TH-cam does not do either one of these instruments any favors.
I have a T5z Cocobolo Custom, bought pre-used - lovely instrument. Whoever ordered it originally had very unusual inlays fitted for position markers - never seen another Taylor with them. Obviously no effect on sound, but interesting. Main problem with T5z's is the difficulty of getting equally good acoustic and electric tones without have a good switching system between two amps. For acoustic tones, the Fender wins hands down, but I'm not a fan of all the modelling options.
Love the great reviews. I bought aT5z lefty my 5th Taylor(more a collector lol). I want to play unplugged not even mic'd up. Will D'addario Nickel Bronze strings sound louder than the originals that came with my brand new T5z? In case I do want to briefly plug in. Thought this would ok to post here. Thanks so much alamo!
I am a fan of Taylor guitars but I think the Fender has better acoustic guitar sound. However, that Taylor looks amazing (sound not so amazing for the acoustic sound).
To my ears, ironically, Fender has the better and more realistic acoustic sound while Taylor has better electric sound. Frankly I'm not knocked out by either one but would have to try myself to really know. Thanks for posting.
Rishard Lampese, he had the volume at half on the Taylor for almost the full test. While I will play my T5 there, it makes a difference. You wouldn’t test your Les Paul at half volume against a full volume Ibanez, would you?
Coming to this some years late: I don't know if anyone can deliver a convincing demo through the internet, the vagaries of the microphones and speakers at each end would prevent it. That being said - the Fender sounds way better on this demo, (if you can tweak the scratchy electric tone) but I've heard the acoustasonic coming in way worse on others. I guess it's about going into a guitar store and finding out for yourself. I wouldn't do a blind purchase when it comes to the prices of these items.
This cocobolo fender sounds very clear with good tone. Those previous ones, may be relatively cheaper, were shit. T5z taylor can be played without plugging it.
Defender Telley sounds extremely muddy. And it’s no surprise the Taylor is head and shoulders better because the voicing allows you to hear all six strings.
Taylor Taylor Taylor Taylor hands down,It has a more acoustic guitar sound,But that price on that Taylor is Phenomenal..$$.2500.00.i just googled the price, yes it cost more than my car,I would make 5 payments,I can afford it..
Just a quick note. The strings on the Fender are acoustic and the Taylor look like electric. Not sure the gauge but playability would lean towards the Taylor and acoustic sound towards the Fender. JMO.
You're often required to do some kind of melodic solo which is impossible to sustain through with normal acoustic, but it probably would be better to just use an ebow
By adjusting the EQ (treble and bass knobs) of the T5z, you technically have a total 15 voices. I actually watched this at a Road Show and heard the different voices just by adjusting the bass or the treble.
Ok... I'd rather use a digital amp modeller to convert electric sound to acoustic. I do it often like in a very cheap method.Zoom G1 Xon. God, I'm not that rich to spend so much on these😂.
The Telecaster would have looked great with f holes instead of the ugly acoustic looking sound hole...like a Telecaster Thinline. Aesthetically the Taylor is sweeter, but I'm not crazy about the binding on the 'f' holes. Either way, I couldn't afford one or the other. I'd prefer the Telecaster sound wise, but honestly these mod guitars don't really ring my bell. Thanks all the same for the great demo. really enjoy your channel.
So neither one gives proper tone in any configuration! Both are extremely over priced and neither company will answer questions about the lack of bracing and the long term effect thereof! You can buy two very good guitars for the price of these questionably built profit makers! One acoustic and the other electric! If you can't switch guitars in your gig then you aren't getting paid enough!
More like the tuning. I've heard for years that an out of tune demo knocks a zero off the perceived value. I can honestly say if they put this little effort into making their videos, I'd never even dream of buying a guitar from them.
Jared Gulick I imagine there's someone in the comments of a motorcycle video talking about how it's too expensive because it's as much as their guitars.
The Fender sounds so poor and artificial, almost like a cheap keyboard with a guitar simulator... and the naming of the positions is ridiculous, Brazilian Rosewood sound so much more crisp and gives warmth and brightness at the same time, to me, Fender is on the wrong way....
I’m a long time tele player, but I’d chose the Taylor. A beautifully made instrument that doesn’t t rely on modelling to get its tones.
They are both phenomenal! Would not know which one to choose, but that is where you come in. Agreed - that's always the best way to compare guitars. So few reviewers do that or they waffle endlessly between demos.

The way the two guitar sound on this video, I prefer the Fender more than the Taylor. But unfortunately I couldn't afford both.
One is enough my friend!
Hubieee your number of guitars is = to x +1

Love the acoustic sounds of the Fender.
I actually like the fender. First time i liked a fender over a taylor

I thought the fender was seriously out on front ! Acoustically! Very impressed

Who cares how they do it, it’s irrelevant. It’s the sound that matters.
Impressed with the Fender ! You could easily do any kind of gig with that guitar.

You probably could run either one through a pedal or pedals with amp settings and get pretty much the tone you want beyond the onboard electronics.
the Tele sounds great on the drednaught brazilian setting. The electric tone sucks on it. I like it better than the Taylor, I wouldn't pay for either.
The Fender is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.
I played with both styles of guitars. (not the cocobolo versions) Plugged them into acoustic amps and electric amps. The electric guitar sounds on both got better through the electric amp. Or, you could just buy a Squier Telecaster and a good acoustic and save a ton of money.

Does that Taylor sound out of tune or out of intonation to anyone but me?
Paul Armstrong The 2nd string is so Out Tune..a bit of a shame it was not detected.
So both of these guitars need amplification at all times, or do they put out decent enough sound acoustically at a camp fire??
The unplugged acoustic tone of the Taylor is better than the fender in my opinion. But neither have enough volume unplugged to play around a campfire.
