Deutz and Tatra V12 engines will always sound nice, there's no water jacket around the engines to muffle things ao leaving a crisper sound. not much power from a 19.1 litre V12, (less than 300hp and not that much torque either, (less than 1000Nm) but who cares when your grin will go from Brno to Berlin when you get that engine singing!
Apparently even asa NEW truck the driver has a terrible time trying to get it into the gear he wants ! Think about in a few years when the shifting lineages get worn ! The 12v sounds great , but when it comes to hill climbing , slow & steady does NOT get it
Hardcor3crash >> Thanks l did not think of it being an unsynchronized transmission , not in this day & age In 1972-3 I dove a 56 GMC flat bed hauling a JD 450 , crawler shovel loader , doing various work for the county . After the initial start in first gear , l did all the shifting , not using the clutch .
@@robertmintz63 Was the 56 GMC sequential or is it similar to an planetary automatic? i have no clue abot american trucks. The Tatra was build from 68 till 82 and has a 5+r unsynchronized transmission wich you have to double clutch to match the speed of the input shaft to the output shaft, a transmission wich shifts half gears wich you can shift like a normal transmission (its a small lever on the shifting knob) and a stepdown transmission wich only can be shifted when standing still. So overall you have 20 foreward and 4 backward. This thing tows up to 120 ton up a 20% incline on the road obviously.
Hardcor3crash >> yes l am familiar with the double clutch aspect , l also drove a Champion Grader (Canada) with 2 sticks , 2 transmissions #1 a 3 speed , #2 an auxiliary 2 speed . I believe the small lever on the main shifting you are referring to , is for the shift of a gear set up in the differential , comonly known as a dp axle . This gives a 5 speed transmission truck 10 speeds forward & 2 reverse , & you do not need to use the clutch for it , you simply momentarily take your foot of the gas , & you will hear & real it shift / or you can momentarily use the clutch . How ever that is not what l was referring to . I simply took my foot of the gas & as the engine came to the neither , pull mod or being pushed , the gear lever could be easily slid out of the gear , then the engine had to either rev more or less , depending on an up shift or a down shift , once the gear was engaged , if you were trying to go faster you gave it full throttle , but if trying to slow down by putting it into a lower gear , where you had reved the engine higher to make the shafts of equal speed , take your foot of throttle so you use the engine , as a brake ,works with either gas or diesel . You can bring the vehicle almost to a stop without the brakes , but of course not as quickly. Did the same with my 67 Chevy PU with 4 speed , #1 was compound low , not normally used unless you really had to have supper slow speed in-fact you could start it in that gear & then proceeded & never use thee clutch . Hope this helps Robert
Hardcor3crash From what you are describing sounds like truck had 2 transmissions + DP axle & 120 ton is sure a bunch , but up a 20% grade is unbelievable . Was /are the hubs planetary to give it the torque to do so ? As some early American heavy duty trucks were. The time in between these 2 entries was taken up by watching & entering into the Sunday morning church service of Family Worship Center found on Sonlifetv.com broadcasting 24/7 X 365
TATRA 813 je vůbec nejlepší nákladní vozidlo na světě!!!!!
What a great driver, he didn't run over any of those idiots in their 4x4s.
Great Truck and skilled pilot!

That Turbo Sound 😍
It is actually just the air cooling of the V12, no Turbo on the T813 :)
K
no turbo ! atmosferic aircooling V 12 17.6 l
Hallo,
sehr schönes Video, war das Deine erste Mitfahrt in einem 813er?
Gruß Andreas
How does driving one of these compare to driving a Semi Truck?
oh yea

Its unsynchronized. What do you expect.
