    Here are the Direct links to Diamine Shimmer Brandy Dazzle, an ink that I think is a great complement: th-cam.com/video/tmsL5TySjOo/w-d-xo.html

      This doesn’t mean I think the best complement is itself a great ink, just that it is a nice complement color.

    I love this ink. Classic blue-black color, well-behaved, great shading, minor iron gall (thus, water resistant)...no ink collection can be called a "collection" without a bottle of this stuff.

    Damn, you write so well on the dot grid. I tried write on blank paper and it looked like the page was written by three different people who had all had about six cups of coffee. Mildly embarrassing.

    • @AnInkGuy
      @AnInkGuy  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have been writing on blank pages for a very long time, so it doesn't phase me at this point... generally. I do have bad days. It has just always been a preferenc,.except those few years of university that I used mostly graph paper. Thank you for the compliment though. One of the things I like most about my own writing it that I tend to write in strait lines without any kind of guide, it is the kind of thing that freaks people out a little when they see it happening... especially my students. Lol

    It's a beautiful ink but it only works well in rather wet flowing pens with well sealing caps. I always had issue with it flowing too dry for my taste, no flow at all and drying in in the pen when left for over 24h :/

    • @AnInkGuy
      @AnInkGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Huh... not a problem I have had and I often ink the M1000 with it. I suppose the cap seal is good enough it isn't causing a problem.
      But good to know and I will keep that in mind.

    A wonderful ink, and economical too (at least here in Germany). - Though I enjoy your reviews a lot, I must admit I did miss your viscosity and dry time analyses in this one.

    This is my staple ink, it has been for a long time. Probably the BEST behaved ink I've ever used. I'm a lefty and this ink just doesn't smear after having a few seconds to dry. For some reason, it also works on flexy nibs where it does keep up with the flex and the hairlines seem even finer, adding more contrast. Recently I've poured a bottle of it in a Twsbi inkwell and... well, it was scary what it did to the metal straw, but after some cleaning it looks like it was just a very hard to remove residue (it completely clogged the straw and left the exterior with a sandpaper-ish texture). Now I use the same inkwell but without the aluminum piece. Still my favorite ink.

    I like the new cartoon graphics. They're good.
    As before this ink looks great. I've been hopping back and forth between this review and your review of Namiki/Pilot Blue Black, an ink I like a lot (I bought it after seeing your review). They seem very similar in colour looking at the screen.
    Are you able to comment on any differences please?
    The inks you paired with this in the video were quite stunning colour contrasts - Superb.
    Great video thanks.

      I am curious as well. I live in the U.S. so it's a bit of a trick to get Pelikan blue-black... but I have a soda bottle of pilot blue-black! Disappointed w the performance on 20lb copy paper; I think Pilot bb may be better if u have to use it at work w/ bad paper? Happy Easter weekend all.

    • @AnInkGuy
      @AnInkGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is VERY similar to the Namiki Blue-Black. While there are differences I would say if you have a bottle of one you don't need to rush out and get the other.
      Happy Easter.

    I like that you're including how well pens fit the bottle! I have a few low bottles that just aren't very good. Others are really good. It's a good thing to know.
    Funny thing: a viewer just sent me a bottle of this. I'll have to ink it up to see how it works.

    • @AnInkGuy
      @AnInkGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A the reviews evolve for me I am looking at different things to include, and what things can go away over time. It has been the discussions I have heard about what bottle is best that got me thinking about how good or bad IS the bottle the ink comes in.
      For you... you need to try the Lamy Blue-Black in your 2000. One of the, if not the, best inks Lamy makes.

      @@bensmith-mannschott9640 it was my question. I was wondering if the Adam used this approach to fill Lamy Safari when he stated the lowest volume of ink when the Safari can’t be filled? Because in the video the regular position was shown.

    • @AnInkGuy
      @AnInkGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Your review is superb and, more importantly, Objective.
    I use this ink in my Teaching notebooks (Leuchtturm) and it is quite water resistant after 1 month but not as dense (as one should expect) on the paper as would be the case with a pigment-based ink.
    Also, I agree with your love of Maths.

      Another great Blue-Black is the Pilot Blue Black, and it comes in a huge bottle. So while I love this ink I more often use the Pilot because of the ginormous bottle. But I do love a great blue black and the 4001 is one of the best.

  • @JerryBearry

    There is one thing about this ink that I wish was a little better; it tends to be prone to pesky dry starts if I pause absent mindedly for too long (less than 2 minutes) with the nib uncapped. I call this ink feature, "mulling properties." If this ink had better mulling properties, it could well be in my top 5 favorite inks. To get past this issue, I just use snap-caps, so I'm good!

    • @AnInkGuy

    Really amazing ink. I've been using this on an off for many years and nothing really compares to its tone, shading and overall writing experience. It's rumored to have some iron gall in it, but that leads me to ask, is it safer to use than, say Diamine Registrar's? It seems like bleach works fairly well if necessary. What do you think?

    • @AnInkGuy
      @AnInkGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Really if it is an iron gall, I couldn't care less. Iron gall was used for a long time and more importantly I like how it looks. I figure I will enjoy my pens and not worry about it. Not to mention I would be surprised if Pelikan was producing an ink that was harmful to any of their pens.

The shading I get with Clairefontaine paper is just stunning with my oblique nibs! This is my main ink from now on. It is that awesome!
