As a fellow Canadian who drives a lot, but flies and takes the train rarely, it's really cool to see a wide variety of trains other than our rag-tag filthy, mis-matched sets that VIA Rail runs. Sigh. And running over 88% of their mileage on (now privatized) CN's lines, doing battle with them for time on the rails, it's a brutal uphill battle all the way forward for VIA.

The railway line that S41 and S42, and partly also S45, S46, S47, S8, S85 and S9 use, is known as the 'Ringbahn', which literally just means ring railway. So kinda like Circle line
Some translated announcements in the s-bahn even say "Passengers for Südkreuz and Messe Nord please change to the circle line", which they probably just put in to bother Londoners
Well. more like the 'Outer Circle' of the London Overground. S-Bahn is operated by DB (who also operate LO via Arriva, but that's another story), while the U-Bahn is operated by BVG. Back in the days of divided Berlin, the whole S-Bahn network in East and West was operated by Deutsche *Reichsbahn*, the East German state operator, who got subjected to heavy boycott by West Berliners once the Wall went up. Much of the Western network fell into disuse from 1980 onwards due to a strike, with the remainder transferred to BVG in 1984. If you go to Berlin, I highly recommend going to the Palace of Tears at Friedrichstrasse Station, which was the railway border point for those wishing to leave East Berlin by train. It's much less touristy than Checkpoint Charlie and gives you a better sense of what the Wall was like for Germans, as Charlie wasn't a checkpoint they could use.

Plane is definitly not easier
If you guys ever want to check out the Rotterdam metro system, I'm more than happy to give a tour
Interesting that you mention the Eurostar (new/Siemens) trains are quieter than other trains... I find them noisier (and less comfy) than the 'old'/previous gen/Alstom eurostar trains.
3:52 "Groene Harttunnel" (Green Hearttunnel) Just wanted to break your story x)
E320s are 16 cars long and the E300s are 18 cars long with 2 locos at either end.
Just another idea for you!
I recommend you try is Interrail(ing) it's a great flexible snd fun way explore one or upto 30 country's with friends or solo. There is an very useful ( esental ) Rail Panner app that lets you know if you need a reservation on your train, you can set it to show only trains with out Compusery Reservations.
Collected a metro map from Amsterdam? Or put a Londen tube map in Amsterdam :)
Often wondered what standard was like on Eurostar, I think I prefer the 2+1 seating,
The music when stopped at stations sounds like the music from green wing
Direct London - Berlin Eurostar connection would be awesome :D
Wasn't there a proposal for a service from London to Cologne (or Frankfurt?) at one time? To be run by Deutsche Bahn? Or am I imagining things. :-)
@@ballantynemoyes8019 Yeah, there was such proposal, from London to Frankfurt. But I still prefer Berlin, because I have a non-stop connection with this city and that would be nice to be able to travel between London and my city (Gdansk) with just one transfer :D
@@naruciakk Many thanks. I agree with you about Berlin. It would be great to have a direct service from London.
@@ballantynemoyes8019 yes, but the DB fleet was not certified to cross the Eurotunnel. With the Velaro D (ICE baureihe 407) that's already possible since, I believe 2013... the DB is not very efficient on these political endeavours.
@@almerindaromeira8352 Thank you. :-)
Also I like the song of the Start
Interesting video!
I'm from the Netherlands, the yellow trans are beautifull aren't they?
When you were in Amsterdam, did you also try the new metro line (line 52)? It opened on July 22nd.
In two weeks, I will be going to London (by Eurostar of course) and on my return trip I will take the direct Eurostar to Rotterdam.
Have you stayed in Amsterdam for some time? If you have some time there, tou should definitely take the new North-South metro line, and maybe do a video on the Amsterdam public transport system. If you need any local guides, just let me know :)
Is there a Innotrans 2018 Part II coming???
Geoff Marshall The Thalys isn't a local train it's a high speed train (300kph) which is operating between Paris- Brussels
-Rotterdam - Shiphol airport -Amsterdam.
- Cologne - Duisburg- Dortmund
You will drive with a Thalys train Between Amsterdam and Brussels if travelling from Amsterdam to London
Not Dortmund, it's Essen
