Look for the two videos of Keala Settle and Hugh Jackman performing songs for the potential money men to convince them to finance the film. They had a huge group of Broadway performers in the studio space singing their hearts out live, and it is inspiring!
Absolutely! Jackman was recovering from surgery and was told by doctors not to sing, or to take it easy. But he was so involved in the song he belted it out, tore his stitches, and finished the song while bleeding from his nose.
And Keala Settle was really nervous and insecure at first, and Jackman and the singers gave her the boost she needed! Both inspirational videos!
Ironically, Jenny Lind actually despised Barnum. They never had a romantic interest because she hated how he treated his acts as she saw him as nothing more than an opportunist profiting off their looks. Also, the fire at the museum was one of the biggest disasters in New York. There is still speculation as to what caused it but it was a brutal fire. Almost all the animals were killed (they were in cages) and caused so much destruction. On the lighter side, his gathering of disabled and 'unique' persons did actually raise awareness and give them a sense of pride and community these people never had before. Barnum also (lack of a better word) 'invented' the concept of mass marketing which we still use today. So despite his MANY shortcomings, he truly was a showman, possibly the greatest.
This movie takes a lot of liberties with the actual story(the real PT Barnum mistreated nearly everyone in his circus troupe), so you can’t take this movie as an accurate portrayal. But it is an incredible cast, score and spectacle of film and the message of having the courage of being authentically you and not limiting yourself is beautiful. Glad you enjoyed it!

We have this movie. So amazing 🤩 Hugh Jackman was outstanding as always. He played Gaston in Beauty and The Beast on Broadway many years ago and Curly in Oklahoma on Broadway ❤️ he can sing, dance, and act. Love this movie so much! And entertainer Peter Allen in The Boy From Oz! I was lucky enough to see it three times, once with my mom, who had no idea who Hugh was but by the intermission she grabbed my arm and said "I LOVE him!"
"Just once, I'd like to give them something real." is hilarious considering that they apparently had to dub the actress.
They didn't *have* to, the actress liked the original singer and told them not to change it out of respect for her. The actress actually sings it very well, she just preferred the original singer's voice for the movie.
I love this movie a lot. First, it has an amazing soundtrack and second, I always cry while watching it.

The actress who played Jenny Lind didn't sing the song. She was dubbed. You can find videos of the real singer on TH-cam. Easy to find.
The videos of them singing the songs in the practice just after Hugh Jackmans surgery for skin cancer but his Dr said he shouldn't sing ( it was on his nose effecting his breathing) but with one song he just couldn't help himself.
The songs were recorded later by popular singers. My favorite was Pink and her daughter Willow singing A Million Dreams. The video is so cute on TH-cam of them performing it together. This has become one of my family's favorite musicals. We love going to Broadway touring shows and watching musicals.

There are few stars who are big Hollywood actors AND can dance and sing. Hugh Jackman is one of them. I feel like they keep making him an action hero but all he wants to do is to belt out a Broadway tune, lol. I hope you continue with the X-Men series and Wolverine standalone movies, because you must work up to Logan. It's a masterpiece. When you say Hugh Jackman gives his all, he certainly goes all out for this one.
I very much was suprise with this. Very fun and the music is so good.
I don't know how accurate this movie is historically speaking and I worry about it when I'm not watching it because apparently in real life Barnum was a real piece of work to put it mildly.
But when I watch the movie I just find myself enjoying it too much to worry about that. Might not be the right way to think about it, or it might be, I haven't decided yet.
Either way - I like this movie.

The 'Tightrope' song gets me thinking back to one of Karen's scenes in 'All About Eve' when she's lamenting that she has no talent of her own outside of loving Lloyd and that everything that Lloyd loved about her "he had gotten used to years ago".

The real Barnum was a scammer and very wicked
IT doesn't have as much as a narrative, but you might like the 2012 movie 'Cirque Du Soleil: Worlds Away'.
Basically a young woman falls for an acrobat in a circus, he falls and seems to fall through the sand and she follows him, finding herself in a world made up of different tents.
Basically it's a combination of different acts from Cirque Du Soleil, someone commented it's basically advertisement for the company and isn't much when you've already seen their shows, but to those of us who missed them because they couldn't afford either the ticket to the show or the plane tickets to America to see them, it's a great way to be able to see them in the first place.
Great arial duet like in 'Rewrite the Stars' - an act that shows complete and utter trust, great way to display love (playfulness, intimacy, confidence, a little risk or a lot of risk, and trust in yourself and in each other).

So I looked up the real PT Barnum, he was really an awful person in real life. However, this movie had such a wonderful song book. I think it would’ve been better if they had done one of two things. Option number one had taken the songbook and used it to do the live actor version of Dumbo. Or, if they had taken the songbook and instead told a story based entirely around, Keala Settle’s character. Either choice, particularly the ladder could have given us a movie that in my opinion would be firmly better.

Grate reaction as always. I love this movie so much and I love the songs as well as specially the one that Zach and Zandya sing Rewrute the Stars but let me get some facts sraight here...Hugh Jackmon's chacater in real life was not that good of a person and Jenny Lin who they make the bad guy here in a way never tried to kiss him nor did she have those types of feelings for him in any way...side note Love Rebecca Ferguson who plays Jenny Lynd here as an actress, but she didn't sing in this movie she is pretending to sing while the real singer of that song is behind the curtain singing for her. Any way The only song I knew before watching this movie was This is me because I heard the original song so many times.
