In my restless dreams, I see that game. Silent Hill 2. You said you'd play it again today. But only a hour of it. Well, I'm alone here now... In comment section place'... Waiting for more...
6:09 "Old Silent Hill" is the first area in SH1, north of the lake. Allegedly the part south of the lake (where SH2 and some parts of SH3 take place) was originally a swamp land where they would carry out countless executions in the past away from residential areas. The area was nick-named "Blood Swamp" because the executioners would pour the bloody water used to clean their tools in the swamp. I think its awesome that the development team decided to build an entirely new area for the sequel.
@@bloomindoom I also didn't know about this until I read a 2009 interview by Takayoshi Sato, the character designer and CGI director for both SH1 and 2 (In SH1 he did all the CG cut-scenes single-handedly because Konami wouldn't have credited him otherwise). He mentioned how the town was an executioner town in the past, which is fitting since you can find a lot of details about execution throughout the game. Pyramid Head, although he is a manifestation exclusive to James, takes form of the town's past executioners. They would wear red hoods over their heads to make it easier to perform the execution. In the prison area you can find a photo of some ritual with someone wearing a red triangular hood. You can also find a photo next to that one which describes how the prisoners had a choice of how they wanted to be executed: either by hanging or skewering on a sharp pole. Pretty brutal
@@antondavidovic3996 I am pretty sure it is mentioned in the games too since I don't know about the interview you mention but do know a lot on this matter and the game was my main source. Historical Society Museum I think it's called in the game also have books and pics you can examine, I think that is where I learned most things. But then again in the first game they do talk about lots of things about executions etc same thing in the 3rd and 4th since it focuses on the same cult.
@@antondavidovic3996 Related, that monument at 21:58 - people have cracked the game files and figured out what the full text is: "Remains of Blood Swamp The x meters of land surrounding this monument was originally swamp, but was later filled in. Perhaps it's for that reason many people seem to have seen ghosts in the area."
So, Gab, the dead bodies are ALL James' character model. It works to show his desire for punishment and his self hatred. @@Novasky2007 For sure, and for the most part I have nothing against any of the voice cast for the HD collection, it just wasn't a type of role any of those actors had done before and the direction wasn't the same. Silent Hill has always had a VERY different feeling to it, and the original voices really played into that feeling well. I will say though, Mary Elizabeth McGlynn and Troy Baker, while lovely people in general, made some really shitty statements about the original cast during the HD Collection's production. So I have had kind of a sour taste when it comes to those two since.
This "the guys need to sound like shit because they are supposed to be nobodies" needs to stop. Intentionally bad is still bad. Also Guy Cihi had ridiculous expectations so Troy did not just say shitty things period. It came from both sides.
What was wrong with the HD collection to me was that it misinterpreted intentionally muddy textures and "cleaned them up". For example, the roads in the original have a lot of random noise on them to make it look like they're gravel roads, but the HD collection smooths them out and even removes little environmental quirks like litter on the ground and whatnot.
@@Cetra29 What was ridiculous about Guy Cihi's expectations? Konami had no contract with the original voice cast, so no agreement on future royalties had been made. Legally they HAD to reach out to the original cast because they didn't technically own the rights to their performance. So I don't blame Cihi at all for taking a stand with the other original cast members. And yes, Troy Baker said some shitty things. He villainized Cihi and during an interview he told people that if they wanted someone to blame for the new voice casting, it was "the guy who originally played James", even though Tom Hulett was not only planning on the new voices anyway, but actually wrote his own new script... And if you really wanna talk about "bad", the new performances were way worse than the originals. Troy Baker simply used his standard anime voice for James, Mary Elizabeth McGlynn couldn't differentiate between Mary and Maria at any point, Laura's actress sounded more like a grown woman obviously trying to sound like a little girl instead of simply sounding like a little girl, Heather was turned into the most obnoxiously snarky and unlikable teen, and I love Laura Bailey, but she was terrible in both of her performances in the HD collection. Angela just sounded like her go to teenager voice instead of the obviously disturbed and two sided woman we knew in the original, and Claudia was the most miserably guttural thing I've ever heard. At least the original performances suited the characters, whether you thought it was "bad" or not...

Hey, Gab! Silent Hill is based on Centralia, Pennsylvania. A coal mine caught on fire in the 1970's and caused the town to be covered in smoke(fog). The town was abandoned shortly after and it's still on fire as of today! And there are a few residents that still live there too. It's a mordern day ghost town that draws in tourist from all around.
That's incorrect- The developers for the series (up until after 4 when Konami disbanded them) said they based Silent Hill, and did location shooting for it in LA and Maine, specifically IN Maine because their inspirations for the town were Stephen King works like The Mist, It and Carrie, Dean Koontz works like Phantom and Watchers, the novel House of Leaves (more so the forth game for that one) and HP Lovecraft cosmic horror shit. The FILMS set them in that town you mentioned because they, I guess, forgot that it snows a fuckload in Maine and just having a line by a character "Why is it snowing? In my restless dreams... I see that shop. The name has faded from my memory, but not how exited i felt when i was carrying Silent Hill 2 to where my PS2 was. I had to take it with me for christmas, to my exes parents place and then boldly hook the console to their living room TV. Anyway, i spent the next few nights sitting on the floor (Because the sofa was too far for the controller) with their huge dog keeping me company, and trying not to make noise. That was a time we had a cat and he was with us, because we stayed for like a month, so he was in the bedroom, behind the closed door so the dog wouldnt go nuts at night. But my lil buddy wanted to see me, and kept scratching the door, making the so much noise, he had to be let out to roam around the house. So at one point, kitty was on the couch, on the dogs bed, dog on the floor looking sad and me playing, jumping at their every movement or sound in a pitch black house that wasnt my home. Good times =) Why im telling this boring story? To show you, that the game made such an impact, that i still remember couple ordinary pet owner nights, nearly 20 years later. And anyway, great to see a new lets play of the old dog ;)
14:09 I believe the chief for silent hill 3 project, was a sound designer for silent hill 2. That's why silent hill 3 has amazing sounds. Also, the whole "mining town ash" thing is movie only. In game, there are no referencesw ever to the fog being product of ash, or anything. Silent hill layout was based on japanese towns, Towadako and Tazawako.
I've been waiting for so long for someone to replay these! I'm new to your channel, and what got me to sub was the fact that you play horror games and I knew, some time, you'll play SH. I'm so pleased I stuck around! ;) Thanks so much! I'm excited!! xD
There’s a town in Pennsylvania called Centralia that had a mining accident that I think Silent Hill is based on. Its worth a google search! The ghost town looks just like the game!
They based the game on Centrailia PA. The coal vein under town caught on fire and they had to evacuate the whole town. About 5 people chose to stay. You used to be able to visit but it’s closed due to safety issues. You also used to be able to see the smoke from all the fires.
So happy you're play SH2! I live really close to Centralia, the place that inspired Silent Hill. There aren't many photos of it before the ground beneath caught on fire, but I can see some resemblance. It doesn't really exist anymore besides 2-3 houses, a crumbling roadway, trees, and a massive graveyard.
I just started rewatching your Silent Hill 1 lets play that i first found your channel through when i see this drop... Great minds. I'd ask you to complete the lets play but we all already know - No one ever gets to just leave that quiet little town. I'll be waiting...
Hey Gab! I absolutely love the way you color coded the corner of your facecam as a sort of stamina meter! Such a subtle yet awesome in-depth way to immerse the viewer. I love how much your channel has evolved since your first playthrough!!! ❤❤❤❤
The reason why Silent Hill 2 it became a classic is because eventually people began to see how unique, eerie, melancholic and authentic the game's atmosphere it really is, and took the time to enjoy its deeply thoughtful narrative and symbolism. To this day it’s by far one of, if not the most mature examination of grief, sexual trauma, suicide, and morality all combined. It’s an intelligent game that does not hold anyone’s hand and comes at the player with utmost confidence in itself. It’s fantastic stuff. The rest of the original 4 are great in their own right and have their own well written stories, but they don’t hold the same emotional weight to them. I think SH2’s maturity by comparison is something that a lot of people are drawn to. ☯️
The mining town that this game drew inspiration from was Centralia Pennsylvania. A coal seam under the town caught fire and the entire place had to be evacuated as the fire literally began eating the town.
I've actually been to the town that silent hill is based on, Centralia Pennsylvania. There is a perpetual hellfire right below the ground and smoke is everywhere. . Cracks in the pavement with smoke billowing out, random pits to what looks like hell. Lovely place, at the time I think only 8 people were living there.
I’m currently watching your Silent Hill 4 let’s play and since I’m waiting for the new episode I’m gonna watch these to catch up! Never seen it or played it so I’m excited to see you play it!
At 15:00, I think you're thinking of Centralia, a real town in the American Midwest town that was essentially forcibly abandoned due to an underground coal fire that was accidentally started back in the late 60s (if memory serves me right without rechecking online). Ground started having stanility issues and cracks (and even holes) started appearing that spewed out poisonous gas. To this day rhe coal fire is still going on despite of the passage decades and lots of $ spent trying to put it out. Estimates say the fire could continue for centuries...
Silent Hill took inspiration from a town in Pennsylvania were a mining site was located. The center of that town is completely deserted and only few people live outside of the town itself.
14:59 yes there is a town here in Pennsylvania that had alot of cole underneath it well because there was cole there people seen business well people started to move to this place well like years and years after everyone movie to live in this town a Cole mining accident happened everyone had to evacuate because there was a huge fire burning underneath the town it is a ghost town now that last that I heard from a documentary that only 1 or 2 people still love in the town I don't rember the name of it but I do live 3 hours away from it I planing on trying to go there sometime!
strangely enough i watched your play of silent hill 2 yesterday.. and here you are again.. its as if we are trapped in silent hill repeating the same thing but instead of bad things.. good thing aka you playing again
Hey Gab, I found your channel a while ago (don't remember how or when exactly), but only recently started binge watching your stuff (though I watched several of your videos & series previously, mostly indie games). I'm sure other people have commented this, but Silent Hill (the town) was loosely based on the defunct town of Centralia in Pennsylvania (though Silent Hill is set in Maine). Back in 1962, a fire set at the local dump spread to the mines below. Because of that, the town was evacuated and abandoned. Reportedly, the fire caused ash to fall from the sky at times. The fire is still burning 60 years later.

Honestly, your silent hill and fatal frame playthroughs are my all time favourite of yours. Would love to see more!!
Here after your playthrough of The Short Message and you spoke so highly of SH2 I came to check it out! ngl seeing your old set up and everything is bamboozling lol
Hey Gabs!
There's a mod that's still being updated for the PC version "Silent Hills 2 Enhanced Edition" that brings the PC version on par to the PS2 version, as well as improving upon it!
It's a passion project by the community, and I hope for you to try it out! :)
Where do we find this? I've heard you couldn't get it on pc anymore and I'd love to play.
@@Moggleberries you can get the game by searching for silent hill 2 abandonware on google, i wouldn't worry about the legality since it's impossible to buy a copy these days. You can find the mod (or should i say mods) here www.enhanced.townofsilenthill.com/SH2/
@@Moggleberries btw i got it from here www.myabandonware.com/game/silent-hill-2-restless-dreams-bgd
I got this. Found the Directors Cut online and works with it. Not too hard to install
I'm just binging all your content now and I am so excited to see the rest of this series!!
I'm watching this after watching your silent hill 1 playthrough in 2021, i must say wow ! you look so different !
Same lol
Would def be down for more vids of this!!
Also got a good laugh after the Pyramid Head orgy...
no one, absolutely no one: ....
Gab: I wonder what it smells like....
All the sounds are making me so nostalgic (especially the footsteps) even though I never played a SH game!
Probably the PS2 ambiance, I love it so much ~
I really like this 1h episode test idea!
This was great! I'd love to watch more! Always fun to watching you play retro horror games. Almost finished all your twitch VoDs of FF marathon ! ♡
I’ve seen this play through a few times; and it’s slowly becoming one of my comfort let’s plays when I just need a little extra self care (like tonight). This was such a nice play through!
I have never been lucky to play the silent hill games (or watch them before) so very happy I get to watch you play this one 😊. I hope you continue playing it for us
Love this! I've been binging all your old silent hill playthroughs. Currently on origins. I'd love to see you replay them!
Never played or watch a Silent Hill game ! Really happy to discover it with you ! I hope you'll play more :D
Thank you for it !
Whoa really?! You owe it to yourself to play this. Actually a better way to describe it is experience it. Best horror game of ALL TIME!!!
@@ryansmith9104 Yeah ! My parents only had a few games on the Playstation when i was a kid and even if they had a Silent Hill game, I think i would have been too afraid to play it ! xD But I would definitely look more into it now ! It definitely is a really interesting game !
The way she says “keeeiccckk him!” is just so cute! Love it!
I really hope you keep this one going, your silent hill playthroughs are always a great watch/listen!
love this franchise and especially this installment. loved your original play throughs of this franchise and can’t wait to see what the reaction is. I would love to see a complete replay of them all of I’ll keep my hopes reasonable. thanks Gab!
Last night I started rewatching your old play through. This feels like it's meant to be! I'm so excited!
I found your channel because of your Silent Hill 2 playthrough! The mood in this game OMG! Unlike anything else
This is so cool to see you play Gab! I’’ sure im not the only one who would love to see a full walk through memory lane (and silent hill) on this series :D Much love from Scotland! :D
I have such a hard time watching long gameplays… but you have spiked my interest in just exploring and actually just telling me the room and especially pyramid head!!! I can’t wait to finish the series :))
Yay!! This made me so happy! Resident evil and Silent hill are my favourite franchises ever.😁😁
Good times =)
Why im telling this boring story? To show you, that the game made such an impact, that i still remember couple ordinary pet owner nights, nearly 20 years later.
And anyway, great to see a new lets play of the old dog ;)
Oh God you're actually replaying this. Please replay the entire game! This is a classic for a reason.
So many memories! Just the chords when you select things are so familiar, what an amazing game!
I thought it was based on a Japanese town, Shizuoka. I'll have to check out this Centralia though, interesting.
Mike Gruette you know, now that I think about it it would make more sense if it was a Japanese town being that the game was made there. Hahaha
Stephen Jannakos In the movie sure, but it’s probably not in the games.
Omg yes. This is one of my favorites. Full playthrough please. I love your old playlist for this and SH1
They based the game on Centrailia PA. The coal vein under town caught on fire and they had to evacuate the whole town. About 5 people chose to stay. You used to be able to visit but it’s closed due to safety issues. You also used to be able to see the smoke from all the fires.
I love Silent Hill 2, can't wait for more gameplay
Man that intro scene. I see where Deadly Premonition got its inspiration from.
So happy you're play SH2! I live really close to Centralia, the place that inspired Silent Hill. There aren't many photos of it before the ground beneath caught on fire, but I can see some resemblance. It doesn't really exist anymore besides 2-3 houses, a crumbling roadway, trees, and a massive graveyard.
angela's gasp literally jump scared me 😹 its always wonderful seeing you replay these games again i could never get bored of it!! ❤
Omg I'm so excited to see you play this, at this point in your channel’s journey. One of my fav TH-camrs. Love to see you do the full game. ❤️
Thanks for all your content! No matter how stressed out my day has been, watching your vids makes me feel calm.
Haven't played this game in forever. So beautiful and eerie. Hope to see you play more of it cuz I am on board! 🤘🖤🤘
So cool to see you play this. I have many memories of this game. I used to play it with a friend, like, 17 years ago. I'm sooo old! :D
Silent Hill is one of my favorite series of games, they are what got me into gaming in the first place. I'm so happy you're replaying this!
This was so much fun to watch, keep up the awesome work :)
Please play more. This is such a wonderful game.
I just started rewatching your Silent Hill 1 lets play that i first found your channel through when i see this drop... Great minds.
I'd ask you to complete the lets play but we all already know - No one ever gets to just leave that quiet little town.
I'll be waiting...
Ive been wanting to see this game, please play the whole thing!!
coming to watch this after your silent hill 1 playthrough! i really enjoyed it so i'm excited to watch the rest of your playthroughs :)
Out of all the Silent Hills I've played, I would have to say that Shattered Memories is by far my favorite.
My favorite, but I love them all! Best horror series out there. I remember discussing lore and meaning of symbols and town history back in the day.
The mining town that this game drew inspiration from was Centralia Pennsylvania. A coal seam under the town caught fire and the entire place had to be evacuated as the fire literally began eating the town.
what an awesome idea and a great way to try out games you might not have played before! Stoked for this new series!!
I've been streaming your LPs and loving it eversince!
Love lots from the Philippines 🇵🇭 💜
oooooh yes i’m super excited about this episode, i hope to see you play the full thing! it’s been so long since i’ve played or even watched SH2! 🖤
This is where the fun begins 🙏🏽
Argh, you’re doing a replay! I’m so happy! I’d love to see you play the entire game.
AHHHHH I really hope you keep playing! Favorite game in the world.
how cool! I've watched your old playthrough several times so I hope this will be the full game again ☺️
I remember when I played that game with a friend. It was so damn scary that no one wants to play, both of us just wants to watch 😅😂
Thank you!
14:50 - Centralia, the ghost-town that still burns in Pennsylvania.
AJ Klassen I’m pretty sure they just said that for the movie, I don’t think it was inspiration for the game at all.
The blue lights are awesome. Love those lights!
Hullo future Gab sent me here so ending wouldn’t be spoiled in your latest video 😊
thx gab i love silent hill series . really good to see you play them too!
Ive never played or watched anything on silent hill but i like the spooks and Gab is the place to go for spooks
strangely enough i watched your play of silent hill 2 yesterday.. and here you are again.. its as if we are trapped in silent hill repeating the same thing but instead of bad things.. good thing aka you playing again
I Love love love watching you play these classic survival horror games !
was looking for a silent hill 2 playthrough and im so happy gab has one 😭
James could have used his big stick to reach that key, like, what the hecc man?
