"i knew i meant nothing to you, i thought i meant something" it's such a simple line but it always breaks me, it's like trying not to have any expectations but still wishing and begging for the person to aknowledge you, i love this song so much
This song rips me in half every time I listen to it...I used to rock my son to sleep all the time listening to this and singing it to him....My son is almost 2...and he absolutely loves it... My Ex and I separated...and he still insists on wanting to watch this.... ....my soul hurts..... Thank you for this priceless gem...and thank you for your kindness after your show when I met you.
I do the same with her music… it puts my daughter right to sleep. Same situation… eerily actually. We separated when she was 10 days old… keep your head up man
My interpretation of the lyric is that she is using synesthesia as a metaphor for the pain and trauma that her loneliness causes her. Synesthesia is essentially the linking of different sensory inputs (visual, tactile, auditory, olfactory, taste) into a singular experience/response. Some people experience the linking of sounds and colors, or colors and textures (i.e. the sound of a door closing looks blue, or the color red feels rough like sandpaper). Here I think that she is saying the oppressive silence ringing in her ears, which she associates with the isolation and loneliness she is experiencing in the moment, triggers the taste sensation of blood in her mouth. Blood in the mouth can often be the body's response to catastrophic trauma to the lungs or other internal organs. In effect, this singular moment of lonesome heartache, standing by herself, abandoned in an empty parking lot, is so intense and overwhelming that is feels like actual physical trauma. It is a remarkably powerful and layered sentiment to be able to squeeze into a single line of eight words - which is why so many of us here are in awe of her lyrical prowess.
recently stumbled across Julien Bakers music an for the past 5 days i can't listen to anything els. She has this way of bringing out your emotions and sometimes that's what we need.
I know you're sleeping by now But I'm still up walking around The walls of my skull bend backwards And in like a labyrinth I knew I was wasting my time Keep myself awake at night Cause whenever I close my eyes I'm chasing your tail lights In the dark In the dark In the dark I know you left hours ago I still haven't moved yet I knew you were gone months ago But I can't think of anyone else I should have said something, something, something But I couldn't find something to say So I just said nothing, nothing, nothing Sat and watched you drive away And I just let the parking lot swallow me up Choking your tires, and kicking up dust Asking aloud why you're leaving But the pavement won't answer me And I just let the silence swallow me up The ring in my ears tastes like blood Asking aloud why you're leaving But the pavement won't answer me And I know I meant nothing, nothing to you But I thought I meant something, something, something But I just said nothing, said nothing, said nothing Sat and watched you drive away Watched you said nothing, said nothing, said nothing I can't think of anyone, anyone else I can't think of anyone, anyone else I can't think of anyone, anyone else I won't think of anyone else
It is a fender telecaster. She modified it though, has lollar pickups and a series/parallel split on one of the knobs. It’s how she gets that low end thump on the heavier strings

recently cut myself off from someone I viewed like that; wasn’t worth investing my time into someone who wouldn’t give anything back

So beautiful.
'the ring in my ears tastes like blood' ugh what a musical angel x
What is this line means, do you know? I have no idea about it. Maybe because I'm not english-speaking.
+Edward Gish Don't even worry about it, it doesn't make any sense.
No, it has sense, my friend explains me: it's not about ear-rings, it's about doorbell.

Usually your ears ringing is you hearing your pulse in your ears I think??
this song makes me sad, and hopeless. i love it.
Such a wonderful musician. Can't wait to see more from her.
I have this song on repeat for over a week now and I still get chills when I watch this video
this song is shredding my heart...in a good way.
always forget to breathe when i listen to her
Been replaying this over and over
This is one of the more heartfelt performances ive seen with Miss Baker. Everything is pretty much on point. Probs to Audiotree for this one.
Audiotree always has the best live in-studio mixing! Love their videos - it's such a win-win for them and the artists they have on.
That voice! Wow!
Holy crap!!!! Best 4:10 minutes ive spent in a while. Well played young lady!
one of the best modern singer-songwriters. love this song
Went to an open mic last night, and there were two girls that sung this song. This is a really great song.
i will never get over this song or jb

I heard one music yours and now I want to hear more and more. I think I'm addicted to your music...
She is such a gem.
I just want you to live forever, and that's how I know I need to keep living
This song still rocks me to my core. such a powerful song
all the feels
sucked in by the riff
I know you're sleeping by now
But I'm still up walking around
The walls of my skull bend backwards
And in like a labyrinth
I knew I was wasting my time
Keep myself awake at night
Cause whenever I close my eyes
I'm chasing your tail lights
In the dark
In the dark
In the dark
I know you left hours ago
I still haven't moved yet
I knew you were gone months ago
But I can't think of anyone else
I should have said something, something, something
But I couldn't find something to say
So I just said nothing, nothing, nothing
Sat and watched you drive away
And I just let the parking lot swallow me up
Choking your tires, and kicking up dust
Asking aloud why you're leaving
But the pavement won't answer me
And I just let the silence swallow me up
The ring in my ears tastes like blood
Asking aloud why you're leaving
But the pavement won't answer me
And I know I meant nothing, nothing to you
But I thought I meant something, something, something
But I just said nothing, said nothing, said nothing
Sat and watched you drive away
Watched you said nothing, said nothing, said nothing
I can't think of anyone, anyone else
I can't think of anyone, anyone else
I can't think of anyone, anyone else
I won't think of anyone else
Impossible not to love this song
Sound quality is insane!!
such sweet tone!!
literal chills every time.
I am in love!
Asking aloud “why you leaving?”… but the pavement won’t answer me 😩
