    This show is like music to me. I have rewatched it so many times and each time I’ve noticed another detail and the characters and their arcs are records I can’t get enough of. What an amazing show

      Dude literally same I’m rewatching it rn and I’m on the second season and I’m picking up stuff I didn’t the first time. Let me just say the dialogue is so good and thoughtful people don’t talk like this anymore and it’s like honey to my ears.

    When men watch this show, they want to think of themselves as Don Draper or Roger Sterling. But there was a youtube video that hit the nail on the head by saying that most of us are Pete Campbel.

    • @ujanbiswas7150

      actually, most ARE Don and Roger. Because Pete is a lucky person and came out as quite a wise man, which is not that you can say about many of us

      did I miss something? isn't he one of the most well crafted characters on the show? Maybe not as layered as Don but definitely had an incredible arc

    • @BillyJr68
      @BillyJr68 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @@agencelasdecom3381 I don't think you missed anything. The show sets up Don and Roger as the masters of the universe to be admired and revered. So men who watch the show want to see themselves as one of those guys.
      While Pete works and toils and is actually the one with substance who makes things happen.
      And as has already been pointed out, he ended up learning the most and actually ended up in a better place. Did my heart a world of good to see how he made things right with his wife and child in the end.

    • @yossarian00
      @yossarian00 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BillyJr68 It really isn't that deep.
      In the end Pete's balding and short and acts obnoxious and don or roger are both suave and witty
      that's where it comes from
      i think all of it is retarded tbh

    I grew up, with an advertising man in the household, late 60s, early mid-70s, and would accompany him to the office on rare occasions. The tenor and vibe of the show in uncanningly accurate.

    • @saucydragonfly
      @saucydragonfly 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      My mother worked in advertising in the ‘60s and she can’t watch the show she says it’s too accurate and makes her think of uncomfortable things she spent her retirement trying to forget. She was a secretary that became a copywriter - we always told her she was the real life Peggy but she refused to watch after a few episodes 🫠

    54:45 my aunt was a professional artist until the day she died, and part of her career was lived as a graphic artist for ad agencies in NYC during the early 60s. She was naturally a huge fan of Mad Men and we watched a bunch of episodes together.
    During one show I asked her if it was really like that and she hit the joint, blew smoke at me, and said, "Scotty, they don't even touch on the half of it." At least for her, that world was a goddam bacchanalian orgy. Everybody around her (and surely her as well) drank, smoked, fucked, and worked all day. Every day. She said the show actually downplays her experience.
    But then again she was *always* invited to the party lol lady had stories for days. What a life she lead. RIP Aunt Wendy

    The feels when Christina mentioned the episode Babylon. That is still one of my favourite episodes. It revealed how industries looked up to the Mad Ave men as Gods and highlighted two very different women using two different ways to stand out. Joan in her prowess and sexuality and Peggy in her own unique thought processes during the Belle Jolie lipstick brainstorm. Brilliant show, 100% the best.

    I will never not have to watch the entire season of Mad Men every few months. I miss them when I don’t see them 😂 I don’t think I’ve ever had a relationship with a drama series like this in my entire life. Every. Single. Season. Is. Incredible.
    That is very rare. And it’s a rare thing to love and hate all the characters all at once. And it’s very rare to feel like you’re actually transported to a different decade with words and actions in a way you’ve never ever seen before.
    I always cry at the end when Betty gets sick, and Don calls her Bertie. 💔😔
    Also, I’ve never hated and loved anyone more than Peter Campbell in my life 😍😂
    *sigh* Mad Men forever and ever and ever.

      you worded my feelings for this show perfectly and I'm on my first run through it and currently mid-season 5. the most incredible thing about it is how it really takes you from where you are in crappy 2020 back to the 60s. I completely zone out through watching it... and when an episode ends I need a minute to get back to reality. that's how incredible the show has been written and produced. I love it. I still hate pete campbell though :D

    Bob was a kind of like Don in my mind.
    He’s gets his job by subterfuge,
    he’s from the sticks,
    he even gets found out by Pete,
    just like Don was found out by Pete years earlier...
    and he lands a great gig which lands him a greater gig with GM.
    Nobody really knows him.
    Just a thought.
    Edit: Another way in which Bob is like Don comes from Don and Anna’s arranged marriage of sorts.
    Dick takes Don’s place to preserve his secret identity.
    Bob seeks marriage with Joan to preserve his identity,
    an offer that Joan rejects.
    She encourages Bob to seek love rather than an arrangement.

      She almost aborted him. That was supposed to be the arrangement with Roger. We saw her in the clinic, then on the bus home.

    Joan and Betty are my faves. They are ying and yang. Joan managed to emancipate in her professionnal life but failed at her private life. Betty succeeded in her family life but couldn't escape the mold housewifes were forced to embrace in the 60's...

      Yeah I think I'd actually choose Trudy or Anna or even the neice or Peggy's lesbian friend instead of Megan's character. I don't mean to be unkind, she's lovely, but there's something odd and flat about her character on Mad for me.

    • @AlexandraofUnusualIdeas
      @AlexandraofUnusualIdeas 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, he's super entertaining. But somehow because he had so much jokey repartee on the show, I feel like it's harder to imagine him there when they're having serious conversations?
      Not that I don't think he's capable or anything, he actually seems like the most skilled actor-ey person on there - he really reminds me of old school acting but it's almost like the entire show's sarcasm is buttressed by how casually nihilistic Roger mostly was.

    11:51 I figured it out, Jon Ham reminds me of Joaquin Phoenix. The face, the mouth especially and the way he talks. Very similar!

      Good. I think the show wouldn't have worked if they were free to--if not required to--lard it up with a lot of gratuitous stuff. (You're right, though, HBO probably did facepalm that one!)

    And this, obviously, is some of the best television ever produced for human consumption.
    From top to bottom everyone nailed their jobs, and deserve all the kudos they've received, and continue to receive for this work of art.
