I made a mistake: There is NO uncapped 40FPS Mode in HZD just a uncapped 60FPS Mode! I mixed that up with Spiderman 2 where we have an uncapped 40FPS Mode. Sorry!

No, a game does not need necessarily 48FPS to trigger VRR. You can use LFC ( low framerate compensation ) to "fool" your screen and trigger VRR. 40FPS has 25ms of frametime and sits between 60FPS with 16.67ms and 30FPS with 33,33ms.
I don't think you made this clear: The point in using 40FPS/120Hz mode is because when it's set to 40FPS the game is using a HIGHER resolution and slightly higher draw details. That's why the mode exists, a lower FPS target to compensate for the heavier load on the game due to slightly higher graphics.

Yup! Guerrilla/Nixxes confirmed that the PS5 Pro support is already in the game and ready to go for launch. It will presumably run very similar to the Forbidden West Pro version, which DF has already done some tests on (it looks super good and runs great).
I just tested all 3 modes on my LG CX & PS5PRO and all 3 modes look amazing, but BALANCED mode is the only mode that threw my monitor into 120hz mode. If you've ever played at 60hz then at 120hz you will know what I'm getting at with this comparison. This remaster looks absolutely phenomenal, and tbh is almost like a whole new experience!!!
Ive been using the uncapped 60fps mode because my tv supports 120hz and vrr. Its smooth as butter. Its really the only option for an action oriented game like this.
Have you noticed any brightness fluctuations in dialogue cutscenes due to VRR? I had to turn it off I noticed it and found it distracting. Plus 60Hz RGB 444 looks way better than 120Hz YCB 442 in my opinion.
That's correct it's locked 40 fps with and without vrr. Its the same like on pc you lock frames to 40 and enable vsync or turn off vsync it doesn't matter

Same boat…my first prefrence is always the Quality mode in any game..These consoles are not capable enough to hit high frame rates with native or close to native 4k!! The graphical quality takes a hit atleast in my eye in any other mode!!
Resolution plays at RGB 12bit at 60hz refresh rate 4L8 which makes sense as 32gbps but other modes are 120hz YCBCR 422 and shows 8bit at 4L10 but how is 4L10 possible as PS5 is having 32gbps cap is that information correct?
Pro performance with uncapped framerate gives me excessive flicker sometimes. It's a strange issue because it doesn't happen straight away when you boot the game but about 20 minutes in I get this flicker shift in gamma occurring
Why doesn't anyone ever point out that you lose color when switching to 120hz on ps5? 422 chroma vs rgb color output makes a big difference in how the picture looks in regards to color overall and I find it very hard to play my games in this way. The 120hz mode is nice for balance modes and higher than 60fps gameplay but I always switch it back off because I just enjoy the better colors of rgb and I'm willing to sacrifice those extra frames for better color vibrancy and resolution
Markus' on point & always right on time Tech Vids render Digital Foundry completely obsolete. The best way to enjoy the Horizon series on consoles presumably will be to enjoy it on the PS5 Pro, i will wait another few days and wait, what my new console will be capable of before i jump back in. I was playing in 60fps 120Hz with VRR but have turned VRR off now as it was introducing brightness fluctuations and also only in YCBCR422. 60fps 60Hz mode in RGB looks way better and I haven't noticed any stuttering / screen tearing due to frame drops below 60fps. Not sure if its locked with dynamic resolution.

@@djbpresents9584 hdr if properly set up and if the implementation doesn’t suck in the game will do the peak brightness of the tv on the highlights , the rest depends on what’s on the scene. But SDR gaming on C1 is very dim overall compared to hdr and u definitely have black level raise in SDR
@@Deccani I don't think that's true I have a c1 and if u are using something like hgig and it's not great implementation it can be very dim, also peak is just for highlights in HDR where sdr is solid full brightness all the time, I love hdr I have no issues other than wish it was brighter overall for c1 but it's not to dark, but sdr is much brighter image in all content
But if u enable the VRR the OLED motion on the tv will be off and that's bad i tried the VRR but it looks blurry so i prefer the OLED motion on lg tv it looks better
I have graphics set to favor resolution on HZDR and its 60fps. Ppl always rag on 8k tvs. for gaming, and I don't know why. These advantages are well worth it.
I noticed when you check you video signal within the PS5 with VRR enabled is says VRR (48-120 Hz). Does this mean that VRR only works above 48 Hz? I know Hz doesn't equal FPS but does that mean that VRR won't work for 40FPS mode? By the way, it looks like the 40 FPS mode has less antialiasing than 30 and 60 and in some rare instances show more instability with fine detail.
Just tested it on my G4, 30 FPS runs on 60 Hz, and 40 FPS on 120 Hz, the TV shows VRR is on, but its only because the PS5 tells the TV its active. In reality its not. I guess thats because of the bottom limitation of 48 Hz. in my opinion this confuses customers, many are thinking the 40 FPS mode runs hat 120 hz VRR.

Not really. I jumped from a 2020 LG CX to a G4. The brightness made a huge jump for me from 800 Nits to potential 1500. The G3 supports nearly the same brightness and is still just over one year old. Don't upgrade just because its QD Oled. The difference is there, but only if you like insane colors. which makes no sense at all. WOLED has better highlights in bright areas.

I truely hate the mode options. There should only be one. The best one with 60fps. Developers should focus on that. Feel like I'm getting punished by choosing to have a playable game, meaning playing 60fps.

Will you make a HDR settings video for PC ? Besides highlights to 10 there's another setting with brightness which is set at 1499 by default. Using the LG CX.
Absolutely hate 120 fps on a game like this, gives everything that soap opera look almost like tru motion is switched on , makes things look very uncinematic
i play on PC = stable 120fps @ 2800x1620 / 1440p , ultra settings + DLAA playing on a 1080p laser projector , with nvidia DSRDL 2.25 to get the 2880x1620 i could get stable 240fps out of it , if i wanted to , no problem , but i don't like what frame generation does to games , it feels weird 120 stable 1440p is good enough , i also have the DLAA setting on , because i like that one the best , instead of that horribly looking blurry mess people call DLSS

Always set audio and video mode to game optimiser otherwise even if game optimiser is showing its grayed out for example if u have picture as game optimiser but audio as cinema and vice Versa
Rest assured! All first party game runs good and looks damn good ! No point playing on fidelity. Performance look as good. No need pro unless you're rich 😂

I did try the Balanced (40hz to 120hz) mode on my S95C, but it has to much judder, so I prefer the Performance 60fps with VRR for now, waiting for the Ps5 Pro mode

The 40 fps in horizon isn't uncapped it's locked to 40 . Spiderman have special mode with unblocked fps it's using bfi to make it more smooth and runs above 40 fps. Horizon is equal to Spiderman smoother vrr mode@@GamingTech-TH-cam
@amnril I heard it's pretty good on anything from a 2070 upwards? Nothing wrong with the PS5. Had one from launch but got sick of the compromise in options for visual and frame rates. I've gamed for too long mate and can't be arsed with hassle anymore so after 40 plus years on console I went for a high end PC so no more compromise... Still kept the PS5 though. It's a decent remaster, especially for £10.
I played it the first time it was launched, and I’m certainly not going to buy a Ps5 version. I have a Ps5 although I don’t use it only for exclusives, I have a superior Pc with an RTX 4090 .
I found the 40fps mode pretty bad on this, Star Wars Outlaws 40fps mode was poor also. The only game I’ve played recently where the 40fps mode is very smooth is Starfield.
This game looks so beautiful. The original still holds up, but the remastered makes it look almost like forbidden west! I don’t get why people hating so much on this. I think Nixxes did a great job on their first remastered! Decima engine is on a whole another level.

40fps mode is the perfect balance of visuals and framerate.

On my tv (Sony A95K) I find that balanced mode in 120hrz VRR is the best.
It's the perfect middleground and It's still smooth to play 😊
Forbidden west doesn't have a uncapped 40fps mode it's locked. Only the 60fps is unlocked.
I believe it’s unlocked if VRR and 120hz enabled in system menu.
That's correct it's locked 40 fps with and without vrr. Its the same like on pc you lock frames to 40 and enable vsync or turn off vsync it doesn't matter

If you turn on the PS5 VRR feature, does the game automatically uncap the 60fps mode?
No, you need to have 120Hz enabled as well.
If your tv has 120hz mode with Vrr then yes the frame rate will be uncapped in the 60fps mode only
I believe you need both 120 hz + VRR, but if you have both of those the game just uncaps automatically without any further settings needing change.

Yes, but I don‘t see any differences, PS5 Pro will fix this tho

That's still a bug with LG. Was never fixed not even on the G4. The info is just wrong in this case. The rest is correct.

Put it in fps mode with VRR on and amd freesync off and set the black and white stabilizer to 10 each way. FPS is the better mode.

I researched this a lot and was never able to come to a conclusion. But personally here at LG OLED C1 I can't see the difference between RGB and YCBCR

Oh sorry I misunderstood your question. If you have a LG Oled hit the green button at the bottom of your remote 9x slowly and it will appear.

I alway use uncapped 60fps mode , lower latency, sit at 4 feet from tv , is barely noticable.

Sony should really create its own equivalent of Microsoft's FPS Boost initiative. There's still so much untapped potential in the PS4 library on PS5.

Zero dawn remaster is a little stuttery on ps5 pro performance mode. I turn off vrr and it’s much better ( I have lg c4)
I truely hate the mode options. There should only be one. The best one with 60fps. Developers should focus on that. Feel like I'm getting punished by choosing to have a playable game, meaning playing 60fps.

I always choose better graphics, higher frame rate makes me nautious. Might be because i am old...

Finde die 40Fps Modes sollten die Regel werden. Natürlich sind 60Fps nochmal besser, aber 40Fps sind auch um welten besser als 30Fps und wenn man damit die etwas höhere Auflösung mitnehmen kann -> worth.
Will you make a HDR settings video for PC ? Besides highlights to 10 there's another setting with brightness which is set at 1499 by default. Using the LG CX.
That's just for the Peak Brightness . In you case set it to 800.

Absolutely hate 120 fps on a game like this, gives everything that soap opera look almost like tru motion is switched on , makes things look very uncinematic

i play on PC = stable 120fps @ 2800x1620 / 1440p , ultra settings + DLAA
playing on a 1080p laser projector , with nvidia DSRDL 2.25 to get the 2880x1620
i could get stable 240fps out of it , if i wanted to , no problem , but i don't like what frame generation does to games , it feels weird
120 stable 1440p is good enough , i also have the DLAA setting on , because i like that one the best , instead of that horribly looking blurry mess people call DLSS

@@GamingTech-TH-camnoticed that either your audio or video mode was not set to game optimiser which might have affected your testing. Always set audio and video mode to game optimiser otherwise even if game optimiser is showing its grayed out for example if u have picture as game optimiser but audio as cinema and vice Versa
Pro? Hopefully 60fps with whatever that 30fps mode has, kinda like the 40fps at the moment
60fps all the way,playing at bigger distance than the Tv ,you can't even tell that the resolution is higher or lower on those modes
Rest assured! All first party game runs good and looks damn good ! No point playing on fidelity. Performance look as good. No need pro unless you're rich 😂

I did try the Balanced (40hz to 120hz) mode on my S95C, but it has to much judder, so I prefer the Performance 60fps with VRR for now, waiting for the Ps5 Pro mode
Same here. 60FPS is the way to go. I would use the fixed 60FPS mode and then enable Game Motion Plus and it looks like 120FPS!

This Game suffers badly from Flickering and Flashing when using 120 + VRR OR Balanced Mode on the CX, its absolutely not worth.
Not my experience at all… wow. I have vrr enabled and i never noticed any of that running the game higher than 60fps
@@duppypixels Its worse at the Cuscenes, lot of other ppl got that problem too on reddit etc. Ih ave same Issue at Last of Us too. Its same Issue like Gsynch VRR Gamma Flicker on PC! Weird is that some have that and some not...really weird. I wish i could know what it is finaly.

I am pretty sure it is...like in Spiderman 2. But recording FPS is such a mess that's why i skipped it.
The 40 fps in horizon isn't uncapped it's locked to 40 . Spiderman have special mode with unblocked fps it's using bfi to make it more smooth and runs above 40 fps. Horizon is equal to Spiderman smoother vrr mode@@GamingTech-TH-cam

Balanced mode is great. The game looks phenomenal and the 40 fps feels very smooth! Reminds of me when I played spider man 2 with the same setting.

Nothing wrong with the PS5. Had one from launch but got sick of the compromise in options for visual and frame rates. I've gamed for too long mate and can't be arsed with hassle anymore so after 40 plus years on console I went for a high end PC so no more compromise... Still kept the PS5 though. It's a decent remaster, especially for £10.

There is a unlocked FPS Mode but it's just around 60FPS to 70FPS on average.
I played it the first time it was launched, and I’m certainly not going to buy a Ps5 version.
I have a Ps5 although I don’t use it only for exclusives, I have a superior Pc with an RTX 4090 .

40fps mode is the perfect balance of visuals and framerate.
I found the 40fps mode pretty bad on this, Star Wars Outlaws 40fps mode was poor also. The only game I’ve played recently where the 40fps mode is very smooth is Starfield.
This game looks so beautiful. The original still holds up, but the remastered makes it look almost like forbidden west! I don’t get why people hating so much on this. I think Nixxes did a great job on their first remastered! Decima engine is on a whole another level.
