I think some video games could really benefit from this as well. There are some games that do it perfectly, some almost kill the moment.

Yeah it's definitely underutilized and I think can add a lot of atmosphere to a scene. I also really enjoy it when you can hear just one thing, like footsteps or a cassette running but not hear the music. Evangelion is one that comes to mind
